Just an incredible drum soloist, very much in the style of Buddy but still Charly, great drum sound also. I am always truly amazed when I watch/listen to him play.
Charly Antolini is absolutely one of the worlds greatest drummers. I never forget when I was !5 years old hearing his record Knock Out (1979) , it just blew me away. He was together with Brian Bennett from The Shadows and Buddy Rich the Reason I began Playing the Drums. Long live Antolini great Drummer!!
@Dionysosable, a friend from Edinburgh is a huge Shadows-fan and some years ago he sent me some live rercordings in which Bennett played solos like "Big B", very systematic soloing, something I never heard before, somehow close to Jon Hiseman maybe.
One of the greatest of all time, love his playing. I still can't see why some drummers reverse the stick and play with the butt end. I suppose you get more power and force that way but it seems that the balence would be off, you could get some sticks that were shaped like that all the way down. However he likes them Charly can play the heck out of them.
Indeed, Antolini ruled the scene for some decades. I especially love his powering big band sound from the 60ies and 70ies albums (Drum Beat, Soul Beat, In the Groove etc.)
my teacher was taught by Antolini, his techniques are awesome! I have to admit, the perspiration is all i got from hiim ;-)
