  • The Gregorian monks didn't like the harmonic minor scale :(

  • I wish I could have this in lossless format

  • That's soooooooo amazing! Greetings from Brazil.

  • @HopeVJustice Green was a color that symbolized sexual activity. It is theorized that it may refer to grass stains from intercourse in a field, or something along those lines.

  • This is probably my fave song ever (Greensleeves in general, not this version (: ). <3

What did Henry mean exactly by greensleeves? Did Anne wear a green dress or was it like her pure, grace or something along those lines? Not that it makes any difference, i'm just curious (: .

  • From pOland:p

  • Such a beautiful song, sung in a superb manner, shame it was written by such a tyrant......

  • @FatboyfromIIPara Wikipedia: There's a persistent belief that Greensleeves was composed by Henry VIII for his lover and future queen consort Anne Boleyn. She allegedly rejected King Henry's attempts to seduce her and this rejection may be referred to in the song when the writer's love "cast me off discourteously". However, Henry did not compose "Greensleeves", which is probably Elizabethan in origin and is based on an Italian style of composition that did not reach England until after his death

  • Whether or nay Henry was the composer, the song remains haunting and beautiful-if he didn't,he damned well ought to have!

  • I want to go see this performed always loved ever since i was little my mum used to play it for me at night to get me to sleep

  • Beautiful... thank you.

  • @dylanzz1 Dude, can't you just enjoy the damn music.

  • @dylanzz1 I'm an agnostic, but I feel that you need to be a lot more sensitive towards religion and such. The ability to respect differences is the mark of a civilized human being. You sound extremely bigoted in your statement towards christians.

  • I've never heard a bad version of this song.

Makes me wonder if there is one. o_O

    Anyways, awesome song. :)

  • This song is wonderful,

  • in response to the Henry viii comment is what it really shows is that Henry was madly in love with the woman he wrote this for and was not ashamed or afraid to express it this song screams of passion in a time when passion was not considered to be a manly or Kingly trait...

  • Muito linda...é MOZART

  • You may find it surprising to know, but this song was composed by King Henry 8th of England. It would seem he enjoyed writing music when he wasn't busy womanising and going through (messy) divorces.

  • @thechchr Acctually even though it's a belief that Henry VIII composed this, this song was composed in Elizabethan era, and is based around an Italian style of composition that did not reach England until after Henry's death.

  • @Zaneslayer I guess you're right :)

  • Thank you michael scott the author the series The Secrets Of The Immortal Nicholas Flamel haha for mentioning this extraordinary song in your amazing books XD

  • the tone in the beginning is bad... at: 0:16 and the tone is in the whole song the same tone at that part...

  • @alfacobra1 its not bad, this is modal music and its different from music scales (major and minor) today.. this should be dorian mode

  • @shanzelezada ok fair enough

    i dont like it tough

in my logical music sense the tone is not right :S

  • @alfacobra1

yeah, I understand you :) but that's only because you didnt use to it, after some time you'll feel opposite :)

  • The Necromancer by Michael Scott brought me here. :}

  • This is such a classic tune by Henry 8th. I couldn't help but chuckle when reading the first line.

" Alas, my love, you do me wrong, To cast me off discourteously"

One thing a woman (or anyone else) DIDN'T do to Henry 8th was "do him wrong" or be "discourteous"! Not more than once anyway. LOL

  • @donallover actually in the time of Henry the viii the only ones who could do him wrong were mistresses because he could not control them by any means no matter how much he wanted too.

  • perfect ... =D

  • @RoyalZebraGirl One of the only "x people..." posts that made me laugh.

  • gregorian rules !

  • TY bb for posting this gem.

  • love to hear these guys do christmas songs do they have other christmas ones

  • @Dolphindream15 This is not a Christmas song. It's a love song. The Christmas song was written hundreds of years later to Greensleeves' tune.

  • Best version. It has the languor it takes to be expressed properly.

  • I'm not even remotely christian and yet I find this song amazingly rustic and somehow consoling. Bravo.

  • @LadyMyriam100 It's not a Christian song... It's a love song.

  • To think I almost joined a Gregorian monistary, I still might, beter to spend my life getting to know the Lrord than sitting around with no job, eh?

  • @RomulusDeTroys Eh...

Hey, I'd love to join a monastary as a nun. It's a wonderful life to live, and you can probably hear the Lord's voice better there than in a place where doubters and busybodies drown Him out. Still, this song helps. I bet He sang in this choir.

Who knows, maybe you'll still join up. In both lives, you don't do much, but the difference is still great, right?

  • magnificent~ <3
