  • Hi worden16 - fiber optic data transmission is immune to EMI (Electro magnetic interference) as it consists of light pulses over glass (no metallic components involved). So there is no need to have any protection against EMI. EMI affects copper transmissions and there are many different shielding types and mechanical properties that help deal with this. GREAT question, maybe I can do a Cable Talk on EMI! Thanks!

  • Great question ksf23! What I mean is that currently, OM3 fiber is the most common installed backbone fiber found in data centers. As time goes by and infrastructures are upgraded, it will most likely be OM4. I hope that clears things up! Thanks for watching, we love the input! JT
