Haha Suck it Mizzou! Still 0 Final Fours and you guys played absolutely no defense in this play. No wonder you hold so much anger to KU because of games like this.
Yeah, us Americans are so forgetful. What, only watching leagues that are relevant, how ignorant? There's a reason players go to Europe... lack of talent. Unless its soccer, the best players are in the US, or trying to get there.
@MikeRichRice The reason why NBA has more talent is simply money. Straight up. If international teams were able to match NBA salaries.....you'd see a lot more talent over there. Hell....if they were able to pay more than NBA, I guarantee you'd see top tier players, ie, Lebron, Kobe, Durant, etc. over there. NBA itself is nothing without its players. If good players went over there, then we would be the talentless league.
Ugh. I was 12 years old and I still remember where I was when this happened, and how depressing it was. And Mizzou STILL hasn't been to a Final Four (though this was the second round.) Oh well...2012 is their year!
I have always loved the way the announcer describes the story of this game in 20 seconds; why it's important, how they got there, what UCLA has to lose. It's really, really well done, like he knew that 10-15 years later people would need the context.
OK - does anyone know where I can find a highlight video (made by CBS) from the 1995 NCAA tournament. It included this buzzer beatter, as well as the Purdue/Memphis game, Villanova/Old Dominion, Georgetown/Weber St, and (I think) Syracuse/Arkansas where someone called a TO but they had none. Anyone else know what I'm talking about?? It was a great highlight video of all the buzzer beaters, and I wish they still did one like that each year.
There was also a video montage to Lion King's "I just can't wait to be King" and Pearl Jam's "Can't Find a Better Man"....ringing any bells...? I had found them like 2 years ago but they seem to be gone now :(
They don't wanna lose this one, Edney going the distance - EEHHHHHHH.......yes! This tournament made UCLA one of my favorite teams....they've kind of faded though :-/
O'liney (For Missouri) Had A Monster Game That Nearly Cost The Bruins. I Remember Feeling The Tension In The Air, And The Entire City Being On Edge. After This Game, Everybody Knew UCLA Was Going To Win The Title. It Was Just Meant To Be
Edney picked up his pivot before putting the ball on the floor off the inbounds pass. The trail official should have stopped the clock for a traveling violation and returned the ball to MU at the time line.
I remember watching this live. Missouri hit 13 3 point shots from all over the floor including banking shit in from near half court. It was ridiculous how all those shots went in. Edney's run to the basket is one of the greatest moments in sports history. Without it - no championship.
A lot of NBAer's on that team - both O'Bannons, Bailey, Edney, JR Henderson, Zidek,
@vanfar15, in an interview with Sports Illustrated later on, then-UCLA coach Jim Harrick said the reason he called for Edney to do this is because he KNEW no one would foul him.
Yep...I remember watching it happen and my jaw dropped open. In the round of 32!! And then to go on and win it all. One of the most important shots in all college basketball. And I hesitate to even qualify that statement with "college."
When I feel sad and even a bit depressed, I make myself a glass of warm milk and cookies and continuously watch this till the sadness leaves my body like a monstrous, giant crap.
What do you meam. he was really good at NBA (for two seasons, I guess, Specially in Kings) and he was simply amazing, spectacular in Europe. he's bettern than most NBA players than fans ar barking about. It's just tham many Americans forgot about him- but that's not strange, it's Americans right you know.
actually he made "only" 1.3 million in his short (basically unsuccessful - he only played 4 seasons) nba career. It sounds like a good chunk of cash but after taxes: 800 k maybe. After, he played in Greece, Italy etc. I doubt he got big $ playing overseas although I'm sure he did alright. So i think "ass load of money" is FAR from correct. Kevin Garnett has made 251 million in his career, that's and ass load of money.
Uhh, I'm not sure if you're Missouri fan, hate UCLA or are just kidding, but how on Earth do you see two steps there let alone more than two steps? From the time he stops driblling till the time he shoots I count one step.
Now he's playing in Turów Zgorzelec. It's a team in best polish ligue. last year they were 2nd, but i hope after finals in this year Turów will be a new champion ;]
that move was sick! not flashy or to show someone up, just no change of pace, perfectly in stride and that subtle change of direction to get where he wanted to go - to the right where he would be able to get a shot off.
when he played in my country, he was like a god. We won everything that year, national championship, north baltic championship and of course euroleague. Edney got mvp tho.
The guy who called the play-by-play was Tim Ryan who worked at CBS Sports from 1977-1998. Great broadcaster. Don't worry. Gus would be there for CBS the following year.
I was in high school and dreaming about attending UCLA--and it really was magical watching this game and eventually seeing the bruins winning the NCAA championship... and I eventually attended and graduated from UCLA.
as a ku fan, i rank this right up there with the 1980 usa hockey team win against the russians. this is one of the spots for the Coke zero TV blitz -- love it!
Hmmm...we barely won in the 2nd round as a 1 seed in 1995, then our lightining quick point guard scored the winning bucket at the end. 2008? As a 1 seed, our lightining quick PG scored the winning bucket in a round 2 game we nearly lost.
wow. 4.8 seconds must be exaclty the human limit for a person to frive acroos a court in a game. WOW! if i ever see at least 4.8 seconds left, im always gonna hold hope!
One of the worst play-by-play calls in the history of sports. The idiot doesn't even recognize that Edney has driven the length of the court until he actually shoots the shot.
It was a great shot and a great game, but I laugh when I think that ne'er-do-right Jim Harrick was UCLA's coach at the time. Guess Quin Snyder and Kelvin Sampson figured if it can work for UCLA...

Best sports moment ever and seriously the best day of my childhood.
To have experienced all the disappointment of the last few years' tournaments, and to see missouri take the lead right before this, being right on the edge of puking throughout the timeout break, then to experience the unmitigated jubilation right as the shot went down-absolutely priceless.

With all due respect, you need to meet some Kentucky fans. OT loss in FF to Michigan in 93. OT loss to Arizona in title game in 1997. Elite Eight loss to Duke is 1992.
Im also including football too. Nebraska's kick for a touchdown, and Colorado's 5th down). But it looks like I could get along with Kentucky fans well though
We were a 8 seed I believe and that was to get into the sweet sixteen.
Yes Missouri was a top seed in 1994 because we won the Big 12 regular season and tournament title. When the big 12 was the premier basketball conference
How do you figure? The Big 12 didn't produce any Final Four teams in 1994. The SEC on the other hand produced two in Florida and Arkansas that year. The following year, 1995, you guys had Oklahoma State in the Final Four, but the SEC still had two top 5 teams in Kentucky and Arkansas.
oops that was supposed to be a reply to some guy in this thread who said "fuck you mizzou" not sure why its at the top, sorry for the profanity but was just replying to that guy's profanity.

Im also including football too. Nebraska's kick for a touchdown, and Colorado's 5th down). But it looks like I could get along with Kentucky fans well though

Big XII didn't exist in 1994. It was still the Big 8.

The following year, 1995, you guys had Oklahoma State in the Final Four, but the SEC still had two top 5 teams in Kentucky and Arkansas.

this play is what makes the tournament so "magical"...Bruins go on as the #1 seed to win...Go Bruins

Oh wow I found it. I was eleven years old at the time, and sitting right behind the backboard the guy made the shot on. Unforgettable!

I remember this like it was yesterday. I still have a tape of the championship game. Hopefully the Bruins can get another one.

Here's a weird fact:
When UCLA escaped Missouri on this play, they were a top-seed.
The previous year, Missouri was a top-seed themselves!

One of the greatest (and most memorable) plays in the history of the NCAA Tournament.

This was one of the best endings I've EVER seen in a basketball game. I still remember it like it was yesterday. Go BRUINS!

I'll never forget watching this at my aunt's house. We all went crazy. This is why I will always love Tyus Edney.
