  • in case you haven't realized, there's 40 seconds of PLAIN NOTHING!

  • beautiful

  • This tune has been in my head forever, but I never remembered where it was from. I can't believe I ever forgot...

  • BALLOONS!

  • Chrono Trigger was such an awsome game. *sigh* i want "the good old Squaresoft" back T.T

  • 4 people got stuck in a time 400 years before their own time.

  • Comment removed

  • Man probably one of the best square games ever. Right after final fantasy 3.

  • @l33tpwnzord Final Fantasy 3 is actually Final Fantasy 6. When it was released in the USA Final Fantasy 4/5 were not, so they named it 3 to keep with the timeline.

  • @Mugnuf Technically it's that ff 2 3 and 5 hadn't made it to the US yet, IV was rebranded II whne it first made a NA release.

  • @Mugnuf

lol no shit dumb ass. I called it 3 to help noobs like you understand

  • @l33tpwnzord >noobs like me

Yeah, because like, I'm a total noob. I think you should learn the definition of that word before using it.

Now, after rethinking what you just said and seeing how ignorant you look, can we start talking about how great Chrono Trigger is?

  • They don't make games like these anymore :/

  • Hey everybody! I have released my new album 'Progenitor' which is electronic music inspired by great games such as Chrono Trigger. You can check it out and download it for free on my youtube channel if you're interested!

  • I was one of the lucky few in my generation (1995-onwards) who discovered this amazing game thanks to the DS release. I can honestly call this the best game I have played. The enveloping story, the great gameplay, and of course the brilliant music. Even if I didn't get the full original experience, I am so grateful that videogames like this exist to enjoy.

  • @1337isdead true just played this and old ff games on roms and there amazing.my xbox is just gathering dust the piece ov shit.on to secrets ov mana next its supposed to v good

  • This song is nostalgic even in the first time you listen to it.

  • This song is so...cozy....

  • Wrong picture. The picture is 1000 AD, the music is 600 AD.

  • This game will always be the classic in my book

  • this song makes me want to go back and play the game. One of the best RPGs I have ever played in my life. Even better than the final fantasies

  • I didn't really get into chrono trigger as much as a lot of people did. but my god did the game have an amazing soundtrack. i'm not gonna flame the game, since it was definitely a pretty fine creation. just didn't stick with me as much.

    love the soundtrack.

  • I want to hug my laptop.

  • sddfgfd

  • aasdasdas

  • Thought I'd mention...Chrono Trigger is available on Wii Virtual Console now for like 8 bucks.

  • Comment removed

  • @thebookofdealy who wants it for the wii when u can get it for the original system for just a few bucks more?

  • I recently had my first son and decided that i was going to let him experience the evolution of gaming like i did for the most part. I already own an NES, Genesis, Snes, and PS1 and im going to make him start on the NES with the 10 games i have and only give him 1 new system per 2 years once he starts playing so that he has a respect for games that kids nowadays lack. Assuming a game with lower GFX is bad is worse than racism, and games like Chrono Trigger and FF3 (ff6 american) prove that

  • @hippykiller100 err sorry...FF3 american which was FF6 japanese...wrote it backwards

  • @hippykiller100 Sounds like an awesome idea. I'm 13 myself but I learned to appreciate older games more because my computer was unable to run any graphically-demanding games, actually, it was barely able to run anything with 3D on it so I mostly played old games : p

  • @hippykiller100

If i have a son in the future, i'll do the same.

  • Time never stops, although it should have when I played this game.

  • every time i here this its make me want to replay CT more and more.

  • 15 years has passed... damn ..

  • omg what a beautifil and nostalgic music !! bring me back to 1995

  • I haven't even played this game, and this tune still freaks me out every single time i hear it o.O

    Nobuo is just this amazing...

  • @ongyerth Actually, Yasunori Mitsuda made this tune :D

  • I haven't even played this game, and this tune still freaks me out every single time i hear it o.O

    Nobua is just this amazing...

  • cant think of a game with better music

  • i wanna cry when i hear this song.

  • i remember me watching my brother play this when i was little

  • Back in grade 7, I couldn't stop humming to this tune. Now as I listen to it my eyes will always water.

  • Best time period ever. Also, on a unrelated note, why can't developers these days make a game that's just as great (not just music-wise, the characters, the plot, the style, the uniqueness, etc) as Chrono Trigger today? Rather than making all these sequels to games today (not like it's a bad thing, but still...), I'm sure with technology today hopefully one day a game that may be as great as Chrono Trigger will be released. Hopefully before the Day of Lavos (not 2012...).

  • @HalloweenUmi The main reaon is because they are going after a target market that in not interested in that type of game but more into games which involve mindless murder, no story or character devlopement and can only be enjoyed through online. It's a shame because that is the majority of gamers meaning that games like Chrono Trigger will be harder to sell therefore a low chance of being made.

P.S. one thing that you should have included with the music, style etc. was colour

  • @smitty1231 what you said

  • @HalloweenUmi

Technology has nothing to do with it, it's the genius minds of these older creators that we're lacking today.

  • i recently started playing chrono trigger and i thought this was one of the best games made by square (soft/enix) ive played besides final fantasy 7

  • this should be #1..

  • @taiga2011 pure poetry. do you you have a title for that? :)

  • @chobit312 "Nostalgia"... Glad you liked it. Thanks

  • @taiga2011 games like Chrono Trigger are truly the stuff poetry is made of. Remember those times and remember them well. I know I do =)

  • @taiga2011 Cheesy poem is cheesy. But I feel the same.

  • @taiga2011 Be glad it's 2012 soon when we're dead it all comes to this.....this theme is pure heaven.....!!!!

  • @taiga2011

It's been 11 months since you posted this comment but it totally made my crappy day 1000x better! I'd blow off classes sometimes too when I was younger if I was completely immersed in and focused on a timeless RPG like Chrono Trigger or PKMN Blue/Red. Certain video games taught me more about Science and Life than any generic, public institute that played favorites and ostracized the different and unconventional. I still wish these worlds really existed :-)

  • Fuck man , i nostalgia'd way to hard when i heard this. Brings me back. I wish there were games like this getting made today....

  • Holy shit i was so happy when a guy gave away his snes and his games with him and along with those games was Chrono Trigger for the snes. we have the one for ps1. no difference just animation but same formatting. yet its better on the snes

  • what I liked the most about this song was the echoes. Considering that this was 400 years before the current day timeline of the game, hearing this game echo gave emphasis that this was a long time ago. Ghosts of the past coming back to life, except you're really there. you're looking at people you might be related to, living their lives, and you know they've already died before you were born. The music lends to the atmosphere by being somber, and the echoes... it makes you sigh.

  • 3 people read the sentence: ¨ but the time refuce to change ¨

  • Now THAT was a KICK-ASS game (and still is) ! Nowadays, there's ... Kinect .... NCAA (No Controller At All) WTH?!?! I don't know if video games evolved or decreased in quality, and i'm serious...!

The Chrono Trigger cartridge should have been gold like Zelda cartridges...

  • Last time I checked this track was 2 years ago, it carrys much happy/sad memories for me. Too bad 2 years ago this day wasn't a pleasant one, but sad memories will not stop me from enjoying this :)

  • 3 people were stuck in time

  • ♥ ♥

  • 3 peoples game froze when they clicked the dislike button

  • I prefer mad racer (top gear) song

  • should be topest top!

  • WTF 3 DISLIKES?!?!?!?!?!?

  • @hnwfwrestling WAT DA-

  • @hnwfwrestling They're four now ... they are "The Beautiful People"

  • @hnwfwrestling

Maybe those 3 noticed the screenshot is from 1000 AD :)

    :goonsay:

  • Holy crap does this bring back memories. 15 hour marathons of playing this game on the cold wooden floor and not even caring.

  • should be top 10

  • Suits perfectly the sadness of Middle Ages.

  • Amazing piece of music. This is a modern classical masterpiece.

  • This is one of my favourite tunes from the game. I fell in love with it when I first heard it. <3

it sounds sad, but that's why I like it so much.

  • Missing a pizzicato channel.

  • Damn it! Why is this list so epic!?

I love you BestSnesMusic... guy... or girl. Especially girl. :)

  • This Song Always Echos Through You, It's Peaceful With A Slight Hint Of A Sad Ending....

  • @Manmancarlwaa

That should be the title of this song, lol

  • i think this should've been in your top 10

  • grandioso es maravillosa esta cancion

  • i never finished this game, probably one of the biggest video game related mistakes ive made. now copies are a expensive and nobody i know has it anymore

  • @coyote3434 I don't normally openly support illegal activity, but just get a rom and play it on your pc, you shouldn't miss out on this game!

  • @coyote3434 emulation is your friend:)

  • @coyote3434

I do :::))) Come on over, we'll finish it together.

  • you need great BGM for great games. something which Most games now lack. Just graphic graphics and graphics. World of warcraft is close in their orchestra BGM.

  • omg.. just legend ost

  • maann... makes me want to repair our PS1, buy a new Chrono Trigger game, and play all day :D

  • That being said, the audio quality on this video sucks. Some of the lower frequencies are just not there.

  • This is Mitsuda's best composition. The magical melody, the simple counterpoint, the subtle percussion, the divine instrumentation... All of this culminates in an atmosphere that is quite unique. Mitsuda creates a sense of adventure on a smaller scale. Many world map themes inspire you to travel and conquer the globe. This one has you (literally) walking through humble origins and simpler times. This piece IS nostalgia! Easily my pick for #1.

  • i remember playing this game back in 95... and wow what a game. this song really brings back memories, childhood memories. the gameplay was awesome at the time and quite frankly still is. one of the games i will always enjoy replaying through the ages.

  • i. have. fucking. nostalgia.

  • 124 Thumbs Up. 1 Thumbs Down. He must of slipped, and fell face first, and accidently pressed Thumbs Down.

  • @DarkNatasX so right

  • Lol one person didn't like it so far. At least most people know what good music is :D

  • This should be #1! It is the best song in one of the best RPG games of all time. Simply amazing music. When are we getting games like this again? I miss games where gameplay/story was more important than graphics :(

  • @Kalingrato i totally agree with the epicness of this awesome song, but dude, CT's gameplay wasn't that great, sure it was nice, but...y'know what i mean

  • I know this Top 30 is based on the uploader's personal tastes, but how can this be only 24th?! What makes the song amazing (at least for me) is that it completely fits 600AD, and really sets the tone for the era.

  • OH MY GOSH!!! accidentally knew this song weeks ago and since then fell in love with it. But untill now, when seeing THIS game map, i find out that I DID play Chrono Trigger. At that time I was too small to remember the english name of game. That explains so much the feeling when i first listened the song. It was like "hey, did I listen it somewhere before? it sounds so familiar"

    Sorry 4 bad English

  • typicaly the kinda snes music that makes you nostalgic whenever you ear it

  • i would chill in 600 AD just to listen to this tune

  • Uematsu and Koji Kondo truly are the best composers of all time!!!!

  • Yes they are...but this track and about 85% of the complete Chrono Trigger OST were not by him but my Mitsuda, which is the third GOAT you are missing in the list.

  • ;D i can play this on the paino. so pretty and simple.

  • love this song, i thought this would be higher but its okay, from 0:47 fav part.. i always love coming to this time period

  • the best game EVER

  • yep... time to dust off the ol snes

  • really nostalgic

  • OMG this song makes me so nostalgic...remember when i played this game..

  • I was was able to play a small fraction of this on piano at one point of time (like 3 - 5 seconds of it) Best song on the OST!

  • Love this song, especially the official piano transcription and kLuTz's arrangement. . .

  • Comment removed

  • Not REALLY peaceful. More depressing if you listen to the slow version.

  • best Snes music, far far away.. or at least, the most sentimental game song!

  • wow man...this song is absolutely beautiful. i loved, LOVED this game on SNES...so much so u bought it for the PS1 when it dropped (final fantasy chronicles). it gives me chills still....great post.

  • I always felt a little depressed hearing this song.

It's great, but sort of sad in a certain way.

  • @Draco4612 yeah, kind of as if there will never be anything quite like it, ever.

  • @Draco4612 I feel it too. Man I remember starting files just to get to this track and leave my game on to hear it all day

  • @Draco4612

yes but sometimes that's a good thing.

  • @Draco4612 Well, imagine. There's a war, the people are worried if they will win the war, and there's alot of suspense.

  • The picture in the video is from 1000 AD...

Anyway, this song is fucking beautiful. I almost learned how to play it on the piano.

  • i so agree with 9000mudkipzareinert , nowdays music doesnt have the same feelings to it, sure there are some good songs but like ive said before, the graphics got better, yet the music was left behind

  • O_o I think this beats Memories of Green

  • best song in CT in my opinion!

  • this game had the best music ever, modern games have shitty music

  • agreed. best music ever! well cept for Chrono Cross lol

  • I always cry when I listen on DS :'(

  • Goodness. What the heck happened to gaming?

This old games had incredible music compared to any newer games I've played.

  • Yeah because they couldn't rely on graphics to draw the player into the game.

Uematsu was on of the best video game composers who has ever lived.

  • agreed !!

  • except for SSBB but its mostly remakes of old ones

  • @WadeDanielSmith ;( it's true... *sobs*

  • @WadeDanielSmith Sturgeon's Law, you're comparing the forgettable majority of today's games with the unforgettble minority of gems from the past. Ignoring that past games mostly had rubbish soundtracks too.

Instead, compare unforgettable games like Chrono Trigger to the games of today that have the potential to be as unforgettable. Games like Portal or World of Goo, which had bloody brillaint soundtracks.

  • @WadeDanielSmith Now come on...The games of the golden days did have great music but alot of new games these days have a great musical score.

  • @WadeDanielSmith I always thought Star Ocean: Till The End Of Time had good music.

  • @WadeDanielSmith it's gotten too flashy and muddled nowadays. . . well, it has in some games, anyways. Ever listen to some of the music from FFX?

  • @WadeDanielSmith the music in super mario galaxy was amazing! but I agree alot of game music today is not as good as it used to be its good to know that some games are still getting the music right, but not as much as in the snes era. how sad

    D=

  • @WadeDanielSmith yeah i noticed that myself.

I played this game a few years ago and i never even played it in its prime and it still blew me away.

ff7 ff8 and games after them let me down.

Since then,no game has filled the void of those great gaming years for me.

    I miss the early 90s

  • @piromaniac9999 You can play lost odyssey <: it has some old spirit in it.

  • @WadeDanielSmith Much as I'd love to agree with you, the soundtracks for Mass Effect, Morrowind, Halo, and hell, even Assassin's Creed are pretty damn good. The overall quality of not quite as good, but there are still some good ones out there.

  • @WadeDanielSmith It wasn't about the boobs.

  • @WadeDanielSmith its all about fancy graphics now -_-

  • @WadeDanielSmith Golden Sun GBA parts have great music imho

  • @WadeDanielSmith And stories.. and worlds.

  • @WadeDanielSmith

    with some exceptions to me:

    Final Fanasy (newest games),

    Zelda Twilight Princess

But I guess the SNES music are too nostalgics... I could not descrine what I feel when I'm listenning this music.

  • Most defiantly my favorite

  • Ahh, the days of Square before Square Enix were epic indeed =)

  • yup enix alone was good square alone was almost perfect ...how come when they combiened they started to suck...????

  • kinda agree

  • So do you guys think an RPG will ever be released again that was this good? I've played almost every JRPG and WRPG out there, yet I have the strongest connection to this game. There's something emotional about it.

It's not out of nostalgia either, I first played it about five years ago.

  • Nope. Maybe FFversus13 but it will be hard to top the old classics.

This one was made by the dreamteam. No dreamteams around anymore.

  • Sooo pretty... sooo soothing... zzzz.....

  • this song will be the better song ever created HOF ( Hall Of Fame ) YEAH ROCK!!!!!!!

  • Ahhh good memories from this game...i really liked Kaeru/Frog

  • Wow the comments below about copyrights, laws etc really bugs me cos this is great music and reading that just gave me a freakin headache

  • "Yearnings of the wind?" It's called, "Wind Scene," I believe.

I don't know about the Japanese version of the song or anything, 'cause this sounds different from the American version, a little.

  • It's Yearnings, according to the Square release music list. sounds the same as I remember it. =)

  • Simply amazing, one of the best songs to ever be in a game

  • It should be number 1.

  • This son is so awesome.

  • CHRONO TRIGGER FOR THE FUCKING WIN ALL THE WAY 1337 0MFG0RZ M4DN3SS WTF?!?@#!@%$#@ this game is just... amazing like if you really think deeply about it, it's just such a brilliant amazing game... i cant get over it

  • Actually emulators and playing roms on them in most countries are NOT illegal - as long as you own the original game you are playing.

  • I wonder if in cases where a game has been remade if it counts as "owning a copy of the original" (i.e. Megaman X Collection for PS2 and emulating any of the 7 games on it)

  • theres no law that says you can make a copy (or own a ROM) if you own the original, thats a myth.

  • Why do you want to "own a copy of the original"?

  • Just for the sake of the argument if someone goes moralfag on me. I'm not in the slightest but concerned about someone calling me on something as trivial as emulation, because my emulator folder is so big (by number of files), but its value in physical copies is easily dwarfed by other things that could legitimately be called "pirated," be it movies, TV shows, programs and whatever else. Before you go up in arms about me admitting to my other things, just think about what stuff you have.

  • oic, I accidentally replied to a thread. I thought you just made that first comment out of the blue, trelior. Blame the YouTube comment system for my misunderstanding.

Anyway, I just wanted to ask you that so I could tell you that owning an original copy of a game gives you no legal right to own any ROMs of it that you did not create yourself.

I'm just saying, that's the law.

  • Ah, gotcha, YouTube is kinda stupid like that from time to time and I don't know why.

I see what you're saying there and it makes sense, I just also wanted to say that I'm not in the slightest concerned about it, because no one could legally go through my private computer's hard drive just looking for emulation software, or anything for that matter.

I know it's the law, but there are also laws that would be on my side.

  • I'm not defending anything either way, but are you sure about that? I'm pretty sure the US government can do just about anything anymore if they have any reason to be suspicious of you.
