  • Nappy Brown's version of this kicked ass.

  • listen to James Cotton doin this!!!!!

    sorry El wood!

  • I saw the Blues Brothers at the Universal Amp in '78 (opening up for Steve Martin on the "King Tut" tour), but forgot what a good harp player Aykroyd is. Sure he's no James Cotton, but the guy can flat out play the blues. Thanks for posting -- that was great.

  • WHATS THE BASS PLAYER DOING DURING THE 1ST VERSE ??? JESUS

  • If only Belushi hadn't bumped himself off..fuck drugs..well at least the bad drugs.Blues Brothers for life!!

  • rip harmonica

  • Uptempo blues song about a V8 engine, DAMN AMERICA IS AWESOME

  • For Comedians, Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi could kick some blues ass!!

  • I witnessed the blues bros from the 14th row live at merriweather post pavillion, columbia MD. 1978, john belushi/dan akroyd/booler T and the MGs

  • is he saying dan wrote the song because we all know who did

  • Good ole Ottawa Boy... we still luv U Danny up here in the great white north.

  • I love Dan in his role of Elwood. He's talented and so good human being. But yet, when you see "Elwood" performing alone, "Jake" is truly missed. Both were such a duo. Anyway, Dan puts his heart into the performance and brings those cool times of the 1980s.

  • Thats cool!!!

  • Good showman and singer but he must learn to play the harp!

    Still its GOOD!

    Love the swinging band :)

  • DAMN! Aykroyd can really get down! :D

  • Back in the day I knew a guy had a Rocket 88 an it had Dog Piss Proof Wheels. No lie.

  • label in 1951. It was released again in 1954 under the name Bill Haley and the Comets on the Essex label. This time it was released as a 45 and an EP, with "Dance with a Dolly" and "Rocket 88" on the A side. It was not released on an album at that time. Although, you can find it on the album "The Best Bill Haley and His Comets 1951-1954".

You can also find the Ike Turner version on the album "Rhythm Rockin' Blues"

  • @OL55Caddy

This song was originally released in 1951. It was recorded by Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats, though they were in reality, Ike Turners band the Kings of Rhythm. Turner is the actual author, though credit is given to

Brenston. This release, however, was not the one that became a hit, nor is it the one that is considered the "first" rock & roll record. That credit goes to Bill Haley (known as Bill Haley and the Saddlemen at the time). It

was released as a single on the Holiday

  • What people fail to realize is that without Aykroyd and Belushi doing the Blues Brothers act all those years ago extended and revitalized the careers of many R&B artists who were out of the limelight in the late 70s and early 80s.

  • Is he Blowing that Harp for REal? Not HALF Bad!

  • there are music fans and there are critics

  • there are music fan and then there are critics

  • Love it

  • @gladiator... Off beat and slightly off key is what the blues is. It's soulful and emotional. Perfect example... Son House - John the Revelator. Look it up. Enjoy it.

  • Has anyone considered that Belushi and Ackroyd probably did more to elevate the blues greats by doing the Blues Brothers than anyone other than Clapton, The Stones and maybe a couple of others? Plus, they didn't just cover the songs, they said "Go out and buy as many blues records as you possibly can".

  • Ackroyd is off key and behind the beat. Well, he is an actor not a singer or musician, which apparently gives him the right to butcher this tune. His enthusiasm helps but oh well.

  • Great James Cotton style of this classic tune! love it!

  • @xThexBanditx it's that when he hose from side to side across the stage?

  • best version ofthe song ever!

    long live Dan Ak!

  • Aykroyds a pretty mean harp player

  • i like dan because he seems to like the same songs i liked---even though i am older than dan ---i appreciate him for at least trying to sing them---nobody will be like the originals

  • gotta love the elwood dance..

  • Better than the sofrt core porn H-Bom. Visually and audibly.

  • I always liked that they did "Jailhouse Rock" at the end of the "Blues Brothers" film. All the cast seemed to be in it.

A little tip of the hat to the KIng. Two Blues Brothers to another.

And at a time when Elvis was somewhat underappreciated.

Here it is 33 years after his death and the King continues to rock & inspire.

  • man he should lay off the dry white toast...

  • Danny is a life long "student of THE BLUES".

No problem...he is the first to give props where props are due.

Ask D.A. about The Downchild Blues Band next time you see him.

(Downchild provided the blueprint for the Blues Brothers)

...everything got to come from somewhere.

  • watch the original one from james cotton so much better

  • @casu3

Actually the original is by Ike Turner from 1951

under the name "Jackie Brensten and His Delta Cats."

It's considered the first Rock n Roll song ever recorded.

It was produced by Sam Phillips at the Sun Records Studio.

I have a copy of it on 78 RPM.

  • @OL55CADDY cool thank u

  • @OL55CADDY Actually, the original is by Jackie Brenston. Brenston was sax and lead singer for Ike Turner and when Sam Phillips recorded it, he released it under Turner, but sold the rights off to Chess Records who released it as Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats, giving Brenston full credit for his work. It was Brenston that wrote and sang Rocket 88. It was not Ike Turner.

  • @SissysDad

Everything I ever read or heard about this lists Ike Turner as the songwriter and arranger for this tune.

Somewhere I have an old recording of B.B. King's radio program wherein B.B. King states the same.

I'll have to get a copy of Ike's autobiography to see what he says about it.

Please enlighten me as I don't believe Ike Turner has gotten enough credit for his contributions.

    Where did you hear/read otherwise?

  • I love it! He's a good harp player and has an absolute love and passion for Blues. I wasn't thrilled when he brought brother Jim into the Blues Brothers, but so what? This clip is great. high energy and joyous.

  • it was NOT this song started rock. Sun's was shuffle beat, broken amp + attitude but blues. It was Arthur Crudup played rock first and opened doors for Elvis who by back-referral opened doors for black rockers Chuck Berry, Little Richard and more. HERE it's played Ackroid sounding better than usual and closer to rock style/beat, but more an act.with good band. Yet, Belushi was actually killed over this white anti-establishment can make it happen go platinum getting blues back on the scene

  • Bow before the king

  • What year is this performance?

  • Awesome Dan, too bad John wasn't with you :(

  • luvit luvit luvit luvit luvit luvit luvit luvit luvit luvit luvit luvit luvit luvit luvit luvit luvit luvit

  • класс)))

  • Nice; Dan did his thing.

  • go dan!!!

  • go dan!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dan is a Classic! He can act, sing, and play the harmonica! To bad John didn't make it...it's a sad sad shame

  • Danny is the man!!! The sole Blues Brother that is keeping it ALIVE!!!

  • @CrimsonBaby2007 That might be because the other Blues Brother is dead...

  • @EnterprisesOfMetal : You don't say?

  • @CrimsonBaby2007 no he didn't, he typed ;-)

  • the harmonica was pretty awesome but the song itself was gay lol dan akroyd is the champion though regardless...

  • Dan is very talented, a lover of roots music and funny as hell---Married to a good old Virginia girl, too....How could you not like him?

  • Let the haters keep hatin'. Aykroyd's a talented dude. Thanks for posting!

  • hey...iam german, and i loves blues!!!!!geile musik

  • Great seeing Dan play the harp and move those feet!!!

  • dan gets dowh on this great tune...

    long live the blues bros!!!

  • This is blues in its purest form!

Thanks for posting! Love it to this day!

  • great actor and good music lover! W DAN

  • Aykroyd is the best god damn Harmonica player, an him an John Belushi, did more for soul music than anyone on the planet, I've been a fan for years. god bless you John, and Dan you play and sing like a god,

  • then why the fuck did you come to watch this video? you KNEW it was aykroyd, and from the pic you could tell he was dressed as elwood.

for fucks sake, go listen to some "young fart" blues then, twat.

millions of people LOVE the blues brothers, and love aykroyd, me included.

he LOVES the music, no-one can say he cant. and he is as talented as most of those old musicians, if not more so, he just isnt as good at songwriting.

but he plays with fun and vigour, all the time. as did john belushi

  • @w0bbl3r - Love your reply, hun! But fall back some. Although I LOVE your response, there are those who just don't understand real BLUES. Like you, it freakin' ills me but they are the ones who need to learn. I'm beyond thrilled that you know what Aykroyd's musical background is about and that you actually get what he and John was about. But give them the chance to understand that 'oh, yeah' factor that you've found already! If not, then f**k 'em! LOL!!!!!!

  • @w0bbl3r I KNOW! Why is it every time someone has to ruin a good video because they don't like the music or the dancing? If you could just listen to what they hell these guys are doing you might learn something dipshit. Had they maybe looked at the icon pic and KNEW it was Elwood they wouldn't have had to waste their fuckin time comin to watch his dancing and singing. Why don't you listen to some of that bs hand me down blues instead, dickbag.

  • @w0bbl3r You're a foul-mouthed pig.

  • @pcpaul53 Why thank you, I am flattered.

i don't like when people waste their lives watching videos they KNOW they don't like, just so they can insult the people in it.

I don't go around britney spears videos all day, or other pop rubbish from today, leaving nasty comments about how they are crap do I?

So when people do it to music I like, I get offended.

But truly, thanks for the compliment, made my day

  • @w0bbl3r

z,idy er idr divj msdyu ;smhishrz

  • @Rich8951 no one knows what you mean...

  • @w0bbl3r you are sooo right.. I just watched the first Blues Brothers again New Years Eve. with my grandaughter.. and she was just introduced to theeee Bluesss haha!!

  • but he is on TV making laugh and love millions of people, whilst you are making hateful comments on youtube...

  • it sounds to jazzy that dont sound like erly rock and roll

  • @Studio863Memphis I think you need to change your name then because obviously you dont even know the history of this song but it was due to this song and Sun Records IN MEMPHIS that started rock and roll. I watched your videos and you are a sloppy musician. Shut the FU*K up and quit playing music you fake musician wanna be f@ggot

  • Masmola. Viva Dan! :)

  • Thanks for your replies Mickfromshik & DeanHeuke

Clearly you are both unhappy with my comments and that really wasn't my original intention. I'm going to clarify one point. I love my own playing when i'm on on form!

And now, i'm going to remove my comments as there's enough pain in the world without me adding to it.

    Regards and thanks

  • "But a great player? No" Are you kidding, Dan Aykroyd is a really good Harmonica player. Much better than some Harp players.

"A great singer? No" Did you ever heard him performing other songs, as single singer without someone? He"s great.

"A great entertainer? If you say so", C"Mon he"s one of the best people in music, and he performs great(look at the Blues Brothers from 1977-still active)

Call It what you want, but i call your comment messin with the kid!

  • like the messin with kid comment well done you

  • Man, Paul schaffer AND Anton Fig. just awesome.

  • i love this man

  • dan the man!!!!

  • goooooooooooooooood

  • Bobby61557

You seriously need to chill out, people are stating the facts and your flying around trying to get one over on people who have commented. I really feel sorry for you that you have to try and argue with people, someone has taken the time to upload a great video and all you do is argue over it. Just please chill out and enjoy the music.

  • Just to clear up some previous comments, Dan has been a blues man all his life, it was Dan who introduced John to Blues, by that i mean he taught him how to listen to it. John was more of a rock and metal man.

  • what are you talking about?! Dan has been a blues man his whole life, and is an accomplished musician and founder of many blues joints. He introduced John to the blues and the Blues Brothers spawned from there. But Dan Aykroyd is the man when it comes to the true spirit of blues, with Belushi or not.

  • Dan Aykroyd DID introduce John Belushi to the blues Bobby61557.

John was into metal music before Dan started the band.

I'm sure that nobody thinks Belushi had never HEARD of the blues before Aykroyd but he never put any serious time or energy into it until Aykroyd.

I know of Judaism for example but If someone who REALLY was into it taught me the ins & outs of it then it could fairly be said that they "introduced" me to it.

  • i prefer james cottons version but this is good too

  • check out the original

Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats

    on youtube

  • ma ke cavolo di fisico assurdo c'ha quest'uomo...prima ingrassa poi dimagrisce poi reingrassa poi ridimagrisce....ooh...ma ke è una fisarmonica:S....beato a lui:P....cmq è un grande:)

  • ahhh he's great. Although I prefer jackie brenstons version, which I just heard on allmemphismusic and been trying for a vid of that. Can't beat the ol blues bros for entertaining eh?

  • cool hab an deinem schlechten englisch erkannt dass du deutscher bist^^

  • hes a great dancer

  • Geez Danny- Sing it in key man.

  • Went to the Valhalla Cinema in Melbourne AU for the best part of 5 years (in the 80's) nearly every Friday to watch Blues Brothers. Love it! Love his harp and the blues that they play!

  • he is a great entertaner the fucking best puts big smiles on my face daily

  • This is great, thanks for sharing!

  • Very, Very Bad Harp playing there!! :(

  • i highly disagree. he is very talented with the harp.

  • i agree...

  • man dat cat can dance, and how!!!!!

  • I think this is my favorite version of this song.

  • Elwood!!! play dat harp brah

  • HA HA! I remember when this aired!

  • great show!

  • Dan's the man. Nuff said.

  • looove dan aykroyd !

he is such a comedic genious

    in my opinion

and a fucking awesome harmonia player

    shame belushi isnt there too...

  • >>and a fucking awesome harmonia player

Um, just how many harmonica players have you listened to?

  • He's probably heard like Steven Tyler only.

  • He's awesome on all of the Blues Brother's LPs. This video doesn't do him justice.

  • He's decent on them, better than some.

  • I'm a 70's SNL fan(atic), so I must say I'm pretty biased.

  • Okay.

  • I love danny!!!! he's great!!!!

  • Akroyd can turn his hand to anything....

  • i think the original version is way better. but i give him props for it. good song anyways

  • No it is not.

  • wow. amazing harmonica solo. i love this guy

  • I wonder if his Tourettes helped him with his dancing or music ability. I have Tourettes and I have read about this happening with both music and/or poetry. Mozart may have had Tourettes.

  • Have you been posting that on all the Dan Ackroyd videos?

  • yeah, he really started to get into it around 0:55. i was feelin' that shit!!!

  • It's interesting how he made fun of those old blues guys yet showed respect for them in the music.

  • I heard it started as them doing it between skits during commercials for the audience and it became a life of its' own.

  • and as i heard it, the blues bros only started cos they couldnt book enough musical acts for sat nite live, so they decided to fill in on the weeks they didnt have anyone else booked. does anyone know if this is true? pretty fantastic if true, eh?

  • it is true

  • That...Was...Awesome.

  • Dan Aykroyd is THE entertainer, largely underestimated today. A man born to be a clown: everything he does, everything he says, it is just spectacular. Sometimes his introductions to the blues Brothers were even funnier than the songs themselves! and the technological or religious lines in Ghostbusters, the way he acted: born to be on stage! Great Dan, thank you!

  • where hells his tie?

  • is this elwood ?

  • yeah

  • Dan Aykroyd is probably one of the best entertainers of all time!

  • Many thanks!
