Wrong!
They do go 135Km/H or 85MPH (GPS speed), this is for the Diesel version.

Don't worry, in 2008 when they start selling them, gas will probably be around $4/gal. There will (hopefully) be far fewer monster-truck-like guzzlers on the road by then. Also, the Smart is designed with an integrated safety cage that protects the people inside better than the average small car, & better than some mid-size cars too

Don´t worry about that. I own one in México and it is very very secure. Check the crash videos here @ youtube, and the EuroNCAP testings.

Actually it`s not that safe. It only achieved 3 stars in the Euro NCAP crash test, achieving 44% of 100% in frontal collision.
