btw to raise a new arguement on the same topic... acura... american or japanese? cause from the given statements the acura brand and all of the vehicles should be listed under japanese yet they function as a full fledged american company. And if u answer acura as being an american company that is owned by the japanese (honda) then isn't the same thing said about holden being an australian company designing an australian car that is just owned by the americans (GM)?
@RepTruFamdesigns Clearly you don't have sex much, as you would realize that the same pussy day in day out becomes incredibly boring.
The thrill is in the chase. Finding a nice looking girl at the bar, buying her a tequila, getting the taxi to her house, legging it in the middle of the night, stealing a bicycle, riding home and then passing out
@RepTruFamdesigns Yeah. Though americans really seem to find naked people repulsive. That's why i'm not going to live there. That and because you can't smoke weed withought getting caught with your pants down lol. Weed is a plant. Not a drug.
he doesnt like muscle cars nor v8s, so why does he keep driving them on his show and presenting them whether its american or not, and im an australian poms are winers, winges especially this one!. he is just a rich yuppie who wont lower his standards and thinks eveyone should drive a mercedes or a ferrari, well get them and shove them straight up your arse"! mate!!
@fabsta123 What? He loves V8s and torque and power. I seem to remember him saying the VXR8 was made by an Australian who saw his photo and said "I'm gonna make that bloke a car."
Wow there is more bickering and hate on here than i've seen in a long time. You people should stop the dick waving and try to better yourselves. Honestly... I've seen five-year-olds with better manners and more self control than some of you.
Who's the wanker that said that Holdens weren't origionally made here .
First of all Holden is an Australian name . Holden were assembling GM's up till just after the war when the FX came out .Designed for Australia and built here!!!!!!
And the VT Monaro commodore chassis was totally designed here . The very first commodore was loosely based on the Opel .
And when did Ford design a car here??????
An what about the other engines available they only tested the baby.
@anno250 The chassis wasn't just loosely based on "the Opel." The VT Commodore is built entirely on the GM V platform, which may have been revised quite a bit by you fine fellows but the foundations of the original German chassis are still there.
Also I'm not arguing that the car, and company, isn't Australian. I'm simply saying that the engine and chassis aren't. I still call Monaros, Commodores, and our version, the Vauxhall VXR8, Australian.
@pegleg1992 A Pom trying to school Australians on the technicalities of indigenous car manufacturing...please...65 million people living on an island smaller that Tasmania living next to the second largest market on the planet and you couldn't maintain an auto-industry...Don't you get it? It hasn't been 'Great Britain' for a while now..why would you even think we are interested in your input?
@hdmccart Typical ignorant pissed off remark by a person who gives 99% of Australians a bad name, what am I supposed to "get"? I was simply stating facts, it's not my input.
Go back to your fucking cell and maybe take some anger management courses, then come back here and we can have a nice discussion about automobiles of all types.
Your innuendo targeting our 'convict ancestry' falls on deaf ears, we quite honestly don't care. Anger Mgmt! I didn't resort to cursing. 99% of Aus have a bad name - with whom? I'm an Elec. Eng. I don't claim to have expertise with Mech Eng. but as I understand it converting the original Opel design to the GMH req's doesn't happen by magic..requires expertise. BTW, maybe you should check out the VE, all Aus. MG, Triumph, Vauxhall, Jaguar, Bedford, AM, Sunbeam, RR...sums old blighty up really...
@hdmccart You didn't curse? Hmm, I seem to remember you referring to me as a "pom" which is a derogatory term for the English, used by Australians, and also doesn't affect us at all. I said you give 99% of Australians a bad name, which means (if you knew how to read properly) that the majority of Australians that aren't bigoted and don't waddle around being angry at English people for stating facts are brought down by your type.
I don't understand where you're trying to get with your last point
You should never talk like you did about mexicans... there is a thin line between funny and lack of respect, you crossed it. Ask the italian singer Tiziano Ferro about this issue... We recieve the foreigners with warmness and joy, we will still do that because you're right we are very lazy! lazy to stereotipe as you did.
@DavidSmilovitz isnt your country like half controlled by drug lords? Take care of that problem, pull your country out of the third world, and then maybe the rest of the world will respect you
@nickster1318 not really these days ford n holden would eat a skyline, the skyline is slow it needs force induction to be quick, and back in the old days ford had the fastest 4door production car in the world the falcon xy 351gt
poms just cant admit a Aussie V8 holden is better than their shitty cars thats why they run a big V8 on a wet soaked track run it in the dry and check out its times Jeremy Clarkson is a tossa.
@captainschlongman They have a limited time with the cars to test them. Not their fault if they can't get it out in the dry. This is England after all, where it can go from clear skies and 35degrees to pouring down with rain and 10 degrees in 30 minutes. They loved the Monaro though. Gave it an award infact. And Clarkson had nothing but praise for the Monaro. Look at the reviews instead of the lap to see what I mean.
@pegleg1992 yes i do agree with you 100% but. it is still classified as Australian and in fact did you you know that the first Holdens weren't originally made in Australia and the first Fords were made in Australia it makes me proud to know that 1 of my favorite car companies were made in Australia
@fordfan197 You are wrong the 1st production Holdens were actually made in 1917 an imported chassis and sold through Dodge Brothers dealers where they sold almost 5000 in the first year. Previous to that Holden & Frost experimented using Rover chassis amongst others. In 1919 Holden's Motor Body Builders Limited was formed. The 48-215 was the 1st General Motors Holden production car.
@pegleg1992 Actually no, Holden was built and manufactured in Australia, so was GM. Gm got sold to Americans so GM can make more money as it wasn't making that much just in Australia. So basically they're both Australian on the inside, American on the outside.
@HyperCam3Vids There are no vehicles branded General Motors (only GMC, General Motors Company, which is a division you may be getting confused with), so GM isn't "manufactured and built" anywhere. Your statement referring to GM being Australian then you are incorrect, unless you provide proof. After a while searching for evidence against my belief that GM is American, I found nothing, so I continue to believe that GM was founded in Michigan which is not in Australia.
@HyperCam3Vids I'm not ordering you around, you came into the conversation all big headed acting as if you know what you're talking about and then when I correc... oh why do I bother, it's not like I'll get through to you anyway.
@pegleg1992 dont worry mate, no need to waste your time on this nimrod, hes oblivious to the fact that ford is still the most dominant car make in the land, and that most holdens are just rebadged daewoos, and the fact that they buy our drivers and teams coz theyre too uselss to produced any of their own sucessful ones in the modern era, RIP brocky, he would be turning in his grave at holden, theyre a disgrace
@sydneyfcanddascc 'Most dominant car make in the land' Who won Bathurst for 8 straight years before Lowndes/Whincup? Holden's aren't rebadged daewoo's, dickhead. Holden are built and manufactured in AUSTRALIA. Learn your facts idiot.
@HyperCam3Vids mate whos won 27 titles in aussie racing history ? FORD ? yes they are rebadged you brainwashed fuckstain, honestly your a disgrace, viva, cruze, captiva, epica, colarado, all daewoos, get it through your head, and for the fact holdens best ever motor was in fact a nissan one, fords falcon, territiory and now the focus are built in melbourne, so suck it down, its ok
@sydneyfcanddascc Here we go again with the titles.. Holden have only been in V8s for 50 years dickhead. They aren't re badged, you just like to think so. Actually they're just cars with 4 wheels a shell and an engine, and you're getting so worked up. Get a life, not gonna bother with a pathetic low life like you.
@pegleg1992 The GTO/Monaro is Australian. The GTO was brought back by the aussies. The original was American, the new GTO/Monaro started in Australia 1st as of 2001, brought the the US later in 2004 b/c of demand.
So by your logic, the manufacturer of the engine determines the country of origin. So Kia is German. As they use Mercedes-Benz engines is many parts of the world other than the US.
@krazymusicguy Tell me, when did I explicitly say, or imply, that the engine manufacturer determines the country of origin? Yes, the aptly named "captainschlongman" says that the V8 is Australian there in the 'Top Comments' section, but that is not all I was talking about.
Holden is a company that was created by GM itself, it wasn't simply bought out the American company after being founded by Australians. It is an American company that operates in Australia. Same with Vauxhall, Opel etc.
@pegleg1992 only owned by GM but if it was truly a GM car they would have it here in north america... o right they brought over and made the pontiac G8 one time... sold it for i think 60k and then we never saw it again... i'm moving to australia just for this or the ford falcon
@pegleg1992 ... holden was originally an australian company of next to nothing employees who made cars that GM saw, bought and been funding since they decided to buy them out. And as i said if it was an all "GM" car they would sell it in the main GM market i.e. north america
@pegleg1992 OMFG your right i did say it was sold in america... 1 time... that definately makes it 100% american now... btw remind me to go sell a SINGLE gram cracker in the north pole 1 TIME so i can have the people up there call gram crackers a 100% canadian made item...
@pegleg1992 it's an australian designed, manufactured and sold vehicle owned by a figure head american company... it's not "american" like how cheverolet, dodge and ford are american...
@pegleg1992 wow so wait because it has an american engine it's american...or because it has an opel chassis is it euro pure bread... wut is it sir?... where is it from?... who designed it?... does 2+3=5?... because of the fact it has a chevrolet engine under the hood and a euro chassis it has me now questioning everything... like the lotus with the v6 camry engine... is it japanese?... is it german?... is it korean because of the fasteners they used to bolt on the door pannels?...
@CDUB8989 The parent company of the majority of this car's parts is GM, it's logical to call it American.
The Lotus Evora (which I think is the one you're talking about) is basically a collaboration of engineering from Germany, England, and Japan. The all important chassis is English, with the Engine and gearbox being Japanese, and suspension being made in Germany. The companies from where these parts are derived are not owned by one parent company, therefore we can only resort to England.
@pegleg1992 can it even be called a lotus because of all these variables?... who makes these vehicles and where do they come from if, god forbid they use something not manufactured in their home country!?!?!?!?!?!????
except its completely designed and made here in Australia for Aussie conditions. Majority of parts are bought from GM are modified and tuned to Holden's car design to save money. Older Holden's were 100% Australian
@dav02010 There is a very small amount of essential parts (chassis, engine, gearbox, brakes etc) that are completely Australian. Yes, he parts have been modified by Holden, but that's like me taking the Mona Lisa, changing the hair colour, and saying it is my own creation.
I know older Holdens have been mostly Australian (usually excluding the engines) but that is not what I'm talking about.
You could think of it as a jigsaw puzzle, Holden puts it together using its own (most notably look and feel) and GM's (mostly mechanical parts) which is modified to fit in place of Holden's jigsaw puzzle.
@pegleg1992 LOL cant help but reply. I said the same thing to a holden owner recently when they accused me of being none australian for owning a mittybitty.
@pegleg1992 Yes, the model seen here (and the VZ) was based on an Opel and had Chevrolet engine options.
But the current (VE) Commodore was designed by Holden, and is built in Australia. Virtually all of the parts are made on site at the Elizabeth plant, and all of the engines (with the exception of the V8s, which are US-built LSs) are built in Port Melbourne.
It doesn't get much more Australian than that. Chevrolet could stand to take a leaf from their book and stop outsourcing everything.
@TBustah i work at ZF(Rear Axles for Holdens) and yes the body is Australian design same as Ford but most the parts that come in boxs with made in thailand on them. Same as in America and alot of other countrys its cheaper to get others to make it for us while we assemble
@pegleg1992 Commodore is Australian - especially VE design. Vegemite is renowned as being an Australian icon. Just because it has been bought by the Americans, doesn't make the product itself American. It's still an Australian invention made in Australia, and unique. Australia is also Australian. Sounds silly, but allow me to elaborate. Just because Australia was once a collection of British colonies, does not make Australia British even tho Australia is part of the Commonwealth. I rest my case.
@theaussiewhinger What on Earth are you trying to say, man? Your Vegemite example is poor and irrelevant. This vehicle is not something that was made in Australia and bought by America, the vehicle was made predominantly with parts developed by Chevrolet and Opel.
@pegleg1992 Commodore is Australian - especially VE design. Vegemite is renowned as being an Australian icon. Just because it has been bought by the Americans, doesn't make the product itself American. It's still an Australian invention made in Australia, and unique. Australia is also Australian. @pegleg1992 By that logic toyota is american too. The car was bguilt, engineerd and designed in australia by australians , kindly pull your arrogent american head out of your arse.
@pegleg1992 you started off your post with hur dur de derp and youre saying im dumb? and dude its youtube.. not the world, and yes Nissan is owned by ford you thick fuck, look it up, Ford has commanding interest in the company, you just showed how fucking stupid you are to the "world",
@EweTubee Nissan is not owned by Ford, stop pulling facts out of your ass. Youtube is one of the most visited sites of the internet, so proving yourself to have the mentality of a snail here has the same effect.
Go back to your basement and do some research you insolent, aggressive neckbeard. The only connections Nissan had with Ford was when they partnered to market the Mercury Villager and Nissan Quest.
@pegleg1992 you're a fucking retard, dude Ford owns over 30% of Nissan, so they have an interest in the company... Ford also owns Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lincoln, Mazda, Mercury and Volvo.. you really are a dumb motherfucker, you can easily look this up anywhere... moron.
@KHGuitarFreak1988 lol well i think if you read through the comments you'll see my point, but they did own them at some point in the not so distant past.
I bet Clarkson wouldn't show the score on a number plate of any of the Rugby LEAGUE matches played between the Aussies and Brits.
Besides only the southern hemisphere countries have won the Rugby Union world cup more than once.

And if u answer acura as being an american company that is owned by the japanese (honda) then isn't the same thing said about holden being an australian company designing an australian car that is just owned by the americans (GM)?

Who's the wanker that said that Holdens weren't origionally made here .
First of all Holden is an Australian name . Holden were assembling GM's up till just after the war when the FX came out .Designed for Australia and built here!!!!!!
And the VT Monaro commodore chassis was totally designed here . The very first commodore was loosely based on the Opel .
And when did Ford design a car here??????
An what about the other engines available they only tested the baby.
anno250 11 months ago
@anno250 The chassis wasn't just loosely based on "the Opel." The VT Commodore is built entirely on the GM V platform, which may have been revised quite a bit by you fine fellows but the foundations of the original German chassis are still there.
Also I'm not arguing that the car, and company, isn't Australian. I'm simply saying that the engine and chassis aren't. I still call Monaros, Commodores, and our version, the Vauxhall VXR8, Australian.

MG, Triumph, Vauxhall, Jaguar, Bedford, AM, Sunbeam, RR...sums old blighty up really...
hdmccart 11 months ago
@hdmccart You didn't curse? Hmm, I seem to remember you referring to me as a "pom" which is a derogatory term for the English, used by Australians, and also doesn't affect us at all. I said you give 99% of Australians a bad name, which means (if you knew how to read properly) that the majority of Australians that aren't bigoted and don't waddle around being angry at English people for stating facts are brought down by your type.
I don't understand where you're trying to get with your last point

@captainschlongman They have a limited time with the cars to test them. Not their fault if they can't get it out in the dry. This is England after all, where it can go from clear skies and 35degrees to pouring down with rain and 10 degrees in 30 minutes. They loved the Monaro though. Gave it an award infact. And Clarkson had nothing but praise for the Monaro. Look at the reviews instead of the lap to see what I mean.

fordfan197 11 months ago
@fordfan197 You are wrong the 1st production Holdens were actually made in 1917 an imported chassis and sold through Dodge Brothers dealers where they sold almost 5000 in the first year. Previous to that Holden & Frost experimented using Rover chassis amongst others. In 1919 Holden's Motor Body Builders Limited was formed. The 48-215 was the 1st General Motors Holden production car.

pegleg1992 11 months ago
@pegleg1992 Actually no, Holden was built and manufactured in Australia, so was GM. Gm got sold to Americans so GM can make more money as it wasn't making that much just in Australia. So basically they're both Australian on the inside, American on the outside.
HyperCam3Vids 11 months ago
@HyperCam3Vids There are no vehicles branded General Motors (only GMC, General Motors Company, which is a division you may be getting confused with), so GM isn't "manufactured and built" anywhere. Your statement referring to GM being Australian then you are incorrect, unless you provide proof. After a while searching for evidence against my belief that GM is American, I found nothing, so I continue to believe that GM was founded in Michigan which is not in Australia.

As they use Mercedes-Benz engines is many parts of the world other than the US.
krazymusicguy 10 months ago
@krazymusicguy Tell me, when did I explicitly say, or imply, that the engine manufacturer determines the country of origin? Yes, the aptly named "captainschlongman" says that the V8 is Australian there in the 'Top Comments' section, but that is not all I was talking about.
Holden is a company that was created by GM itself, it wasn't simply bought out the American company after being founded by Australians. It is an American company that operates in Australia. Same with Vauxhall, Opel etc.
pegleg1992 10 months ago
@pegleg1992 only owned by GM but if it was truly a GM car they would have it here in north america... o right they brought over and made the pontiac G8 one time... sold it for i think 60k and then we never saw it again... i'm moving to australia just for this or the ford falcon
CDUB8989 10 months ago
@CDUB8989 You missed my point, Holden is not simply owned by GM, but it was founded by GM.
pegleg1992 10 months ago
@pegleg1992 ... holden was originally an australian company of next to nothing employees who made cars that GM saw, bought and been funding since they decided to buy them out. And as i said if it was an all "GM" car they would sell it in the main GM market i.e. north america
CDUB8989 10 months ago
@CDUB8989 As you said yourself, it was sold in America, as the Pontiac G8.
pegleg1992 10 months ago
@pegleg1992 OMFG your right i did say it was sold in america... 1 time... that definately makes it 100% american now... btw remind me to go sell a SINGLE gram cracker in the north pole 1 TIME so i can have the people up there call gram crackers a 100% canadian made item...
CDUB8989 10 months ago
@CDUB8989 You mean a Graham cracker? This metaphor is irrelevant, as the Graham cracker was developed by one American man.
Also, we both went full retard, this car was sold in America as the Pontiac GTO. This generation lasted for 3 years (2004,5,6).
pegleg1992 10 months ago
@pegleg1992 it's an australian designed, manufactured and sold vehicle owned by a figure head american company... it's not "american" like how cheverolet, dodge and ford are american...
CDUB8989 10 months ago
@CDUB8989 Opel chassis, Chevrolet engine.
pegleg1992 10 months ago
@pegleg1992 wow so wait because it has an american engine it's american...or because it has an opel chassis is it euro pure bread... wut is it sir?... where is it from?... who designed it?... does 2+3=5?... because of the fact it has a chevrolet engine under the hood and a euro chassis it has me now questioning everything... like the lotus with the v6 camry engine... is it japanese?... is it german?... is it korean because of the fasteners they used to bolt on the door pannels?...
CDUB8989 10 months ago
@CDUB8989 The parent company of the majority of this car's parts is GM, it's logical to call it American.
The Lotus Evora (which I think is the one you're talking about) is basically a collaboration of engineering from Germany, England, and Japan. The all important chassis is English, with the Engine and gearbox being Japanese, and suspension being made in Germany. The companies from where these parts are derived are not owned by one parent company, therefore we can only resort to England.
pegleg1992 10 months ago
@pegleg1992 can it even be called a lotus because of all these variables?... who makes these vehicles and where do they come from if, god forbid they use something not manufactured in their home country!?!?!?!?!?!????
CDUB8989 10 months ago
@pegleg1992
except its completely designed and made here in Australia for Aussie conditions. Majority of parts are bought from GM are modified and tuned to Holden's car design to save money. Older Holden's were 100% Australian
dav02010 10 months ago
@dav02010 There is a very small amount of essential parts (chassis, engine, gearbox, brakes etc) that are completely Australian. Yes, he parts have been modified by Holden, but that's like me taking the Mona Lisa, changing the hair colour, and saying it is my own creation.
I know older Holdens have been mostly Australian (usually excluding the engines) but that is not what I'm talking about.
pegleg1992 10 months ago
@pegleg1992
You could think of it as a jigsaw puzzle, Holden puts it together using its own (most notably look and feel) and GM's (mostly mechanical parts) which is modified to fit in place of Holden's jigsaw puzzle.
dav02010 10 months ago

aap221 9 months ago
@aap221 No it wasn't though. The majority of the parts are not Australian.
pegleg1992 9 months ago
@pegleg1992 Yes, the model seen here (and the VZ) was based on an Opel and had Chevrolet engine options.
But the current (VE) Commodore was designed by Holden, and is built in Australia. Virtually all of the parts are made on site at the Elizabeth plant, and all of the engines (with the exception of the V8s, which are US-built LSs) are built in Port Melbourne.
It doesn't get much more Australian than that. Chevrolet could stand to take a leaf from their book and stop outsourcing everything.
TBustah 9 months ago
@TBustah There's nothing incorrect in your statement, but we are talking about the model seen in this clip.
pegleg1992 9 months ago
@TBustah i work at ZF(Rear Axles for Holdens) and yes the body is Australian design same as Ford but most the parts that come in boxs with made in thailand on them. Same as in America and alot of other countrys its cheaper to get others to make it for us while we assemble
fpvshitsonhsv 9 months ago
@pegleg1992 Commodore is Australian - especially VE design. Vegemite is renowned as being an Australian icon. Just because it has been bought by the Americans, doesn't make the product itself American. It's still an Australian invention made in Australia, and unique. Australia is also Australian. Sounds silly, but allow me to elaborate. Just because Australia was once a collection of British colonies, does not make Australia British even tho Australia is part of the Commonwealth. I rest my case.
theaussiewhinger 9 months ago
@theaussiewhinger What on Earth are you trying to say, man? Your Vegemite example is poor and irrelevant. This vehicle is not something that was made in Australia and bought by America, the vehicle was made predominantly with parts developed by Chevrolet and Opel.
