OMG ......... just doing a trip down memory lane and found this video. I have Robbie DuPree's original album from 1980, he's just as good as he was back 30 years ago.
I want to see some of these so called artist today try to sing live in about 20 years and still sound relevant. Today's teenagers are in for a big surprise when they get older and realize their favorite artist were just fluff for record companies and not real musicians at all!!
What a great song! I listened to it a lot in Okinawa, while dreaming of my girlfriend back in the states. When I got back I was in a new town "Dumpsville" population me?
These songs help you get over the hurt and I love them.
@seadawgie Oh man, that musta been rough! I hope now that your life is full of love, and found someone that cares! Iam reminicing i always liked Robbie Dupree,, you have a good night sir!
Love it or hate it this song is still a league above all the uninspired, machine voxed crap that passes for music today.
When we live in an age where paris hilton can release a hit album,I look back at the 70's and early 80's and pray for either a time machine or a bolt of lightening from god himself to put an end to modern music!
but, there is difference between "inspiration" and just plain "rip off".....this song is melody for melody, lyrics, and even fake micheal mcdonnald back up vocals....go type in what a fool believes and you will see
It's probably because Michael McDonald sang background vocals and played keyboards on the album. If anything, Robbie's a little flat-probably can't hear himself over the amps.
this amateur recording at a gig where there are no acoustics, where there is wind, where the mix is waaay off, and where dupree sounds as good as his recording of this song says a shitload about what a pure instrument he has in his voice. He nails almost every note in horrible circumstances. Bitchen to hear this again.
Been called many things ... "amateur" is not one of them. Used a Sony minicam to shoot it. Horrible circumstances ... no, the sound stage is one of the best for a festival our size. But you are right, he sounds as good as he always has.
Sorry. No offense intended....I'm sure your camera is a good one, and it picked up the sound really well. And you did a good job. But this is not a professionally recorded concert. Nonetheless, thanks very much for the good job you did and for the posting. It's an important addition to youtube.
@islezeus Not from what I have seen by a bunch of comments from females. You are either gay, jealous, or born in the wrong time dickweed dope punk kid.
oh by far, the 70's had a staple sound for it's time. I believe Michael Mcdonald was the original in the part of this song who sang "no second chances tonight, whyyyyyyy dont you".
Nice that younger people are dancing to this.

@tgnomechaser I really like this song but I swear for the longest time I thought
Michael McDonald was singing on it .Rip off or not ...it seem an almost exact copy
of the Doobies. If it is a rip off...hey at least
they picked a really good band to rip off.
clamdraggin 2 years ago
this song is a total WHAT A FOOL BELIEVES by Doobie Brothers rip off.....

Never have seen Robbie Dupree live but after seeing this I may be so inclined if he ever comes back to Florida. He sounds in fine form.

Come on and hold me just like you told me,
Then show me what I want to know,
Why don't we steal away, Why don't we steal away into the night,
I know it ain't right.
Tease me, Why don't you please me,
Then show me what you came here for.
Why don't we steal away,
Why don't we steal away into the night....
Robbie Dupree is smooth, eh!!!!!!!!
