I think my 2006 Lincoln Zephyr runs a mid 15 1/4 mile. I dont really consider it a performance car. I hardly even view my 74 LS4 m21 Corvette a performance car.
@daveyboy6832 daveyboy, this reply about racing and performance has nothing to do with you etc.. i was trying to prove a point to me2003 which i did prove because he told me my 81 has no performance which me2003 is totally wrong. The 81 will beat a 82 in the 1/4 mile and top speed.
@me20003 Here is another quote about the 82's crossfire on page 134 of the Corvette C3 68-82 Buyer's Guide by Richard Price. "The 1982 Corvette engine compartment was perhaps the most crowded and COMPLICATED in Corvette History. The cross-fire injection air cleaner and induction setup where used in 1982 models ONLY, making parts rather DIFFICULT to come by."
@me20003 This is from Corvette C3 Buyer's Guide" By Richard Price. Page 131 "Ever-increasing mechanical and electrical complexity owing not only to the plethora of emissions ruducing equipment found on 1982s and some earlyer C3s, but also to the steady addition of more and more features, makes 82's more prone to certain problems. These include sensor, solenoid, and valve failures:vacuum leaks; electrical shorts; and catalytic converter failure".
@BrotherHubbs I agree but I'll go even further.Try to find an '80 model with the L-82....more power than the Cross-Fire and a lot easier to service and maintain.I just found one with 12,000 miles...couldn't pass it up.Now that one keeps my '95 ZR-1 company at my storage.....the look from behind the wheel of the C3's with those fenders swooping like they do is priceless....of those 3 years, the 1980 is the one to get....all are great though.
@VettemanLT5 I agree completly what you said about the 80 with the L-82 engine with more power. Maybe one day if i have enough money, I will get a 80 L-82! I myself own at the present time a 1981 Red with Red interior and i love it! I can stare at the car for hours it is so gourgous. They have bodies on them like a barbie doll! LOL
@BrotherHubbs Cool beans!!! Mine is white with red....and you'd be surprised how affordable they can be.....and the best part is you can get all kinds of replacement parts for them, some even NOS....I got very lucky with both the '95 and the L-82,but low-mileage jewels are still out there....I say keep yours and enjoy...their value will increase as time goes by....I know I'll keep mine!! All the best....
Your right about the bigger engines and horspower but if GM did not do what they did, the car whould never have been made. The car is powerful enough for me! : )
Anyone who owns a 81 Corvette didn't buy them for just the speed. It's a classic design and a beautiful car. It may be under powered, but it's still a Vette. I own a 93 C4, but would also love to own a late model C3.
@BrotherHubbs I agree with you since my favourite generation of the corvette was c3 ever since I was a kid, I actually grew up with the c4 but when I came across a c3 I'm not gonna lie it was like falling in love all over again. but without a doubt I bet a lot of the guys that ridiculed the 1977-82 corvette are probably the same people who probably desire a late 70's trans am
@malevolenceXXXesues It doesnt matter if the 80's Corvettes are under rated etc... Who cares. I like my 81 Corvette no matter what. Even tho they where not the most powerful Corvette, i think there one of the most beautiful C3's ever made. I could care less if there under rated. Everywhere where i live i see people driving boring looking Mustangs. I rather have my vette any day. You hardly ever see a early 80's Corvettes on the road. As far as looks, the 80's Corvettes blow away a Mustang.
@Footballfathead8 Beautiful! What you have now is a car with a beautiful body that has its own personality and indivduality and you worked on the engine so it is not as a headace with all that emissions on it etc...... I wish you the best with the Nowadays you see alot of mustangs on the road and not alot of 80's vettes which i think blow away the looks of any Mustang and i know there looking when they see my 81 vette coming from the any direction on the street. CORVETTE - THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE
@Footballfathead8 It is worth it my friend. There like a piece of art. One of the most beautiful Corvettes i feel that have ever been produced 80 81 82's Gourgous!!!!
Ok already. Chill out will yah and take a chill pill. There is no reason to swear about it etc... I already know about the crossfire and that is why i never buy one unless maybe to collect for a show car as this was the last year of the C3. I love the way the car looks as i own a 1981 corvette and I bought it for its looks. They are a beautiful machine compared too the cars of today. At least this car has a timeless look to it and has personality and individuality.
Crossfire injection the biggest failure ever made by Chevrolet. Competing with Nissan and other Japanese companies that actually succeded in making fuel injected cars that were not a disaster. I changed the intake and went with a holley Carbeureutor and Edelbrock challenger series intake cut the cats off and you have a real machine not some wannabe efficient bullshit car that America was trying to appeal to people paying attention to emissions.
@Footballfathead8 I dont blame you bro for living in it before you sell it. I love all the 80's vettes. I just read in a book that there was alot more electrical problems shorts and catalic converter faliure on the 82s but as long as you have a total passion for the car i totally understand. The 80s vettes are gourgous. and you know what i live in my vette too before i see mine either!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEYAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHFadetoBlack..
Love watching these guys paint a car with no mask or goggles.
