Too bad Rick Moranis has retired from show biz, John Candy is dead and Eugene Levy seems content to appear as the "dad" in "American Pie" films. Oh well
Jack, most people don't realize that Rusty was aiming squarely at Spinal Tap when he made "Fear..." They are the same film with wildly different spins. Masterpieces, ALL.
@StuntmanJackR So many standards have changed, some of SCTV might even be considered racist today, such as these womens performances which is obviously influenced by that of Japanese female singers/dancers of the time (The Pink Lady)
SCTV was virtually off the chain when it came to /racial boundries but managed to appeal to anyone with a funny bone, regardless of color, probably because they are canadian. SNL has just become a liberal mouthpiece, doesn't appeal to me anymore.
I remember seeing this live on HBO in about 1984. I believe that this film was one of the first "Laser Discs" I purchased for my Disco Vision player, long before DVD's were around. The quality was much better than VHS tapes. As I was a fan of Second City TV, these actors were my fav's (John Candy, Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara and Rick Moranis). A fine "mockumentary." I especially enjoy the "Lemon Twins."
My mistake above. I remember seeing the first showing on HBO. It wasn't live. The Schmenges even appeared on Letterman promoting the upcoming first showing of "The Last Polka" on HBO. Letterman played it straight, and didn't let on that it was a spoof.
Mary Margaret O'Hara is so fabulous here... she's a Lemon and yet she can't hide that beautiful personality that makes her such a dynamic performer. She and Catherine look gorgeous here, and the third actress is a riot. I think it's Robin Duke? She's fabulous.
WOW, this is awesome.... I haven't seen the twins in years.... All three of them.... ;-)

The Schmenges, Spinal Tap and Fear of a Black Hat, the killer mockumentary trilogy. Love the Lemon Twins.

That my friend is spot on. All three of those films should be put in one special edition DVD box set.

We need more shows like SCTV back on the air and less of what they are offering now. I was young during that shows run, but always loved it.

I didn't know Mary Margaret's background until I Googled her and found that she is revered i Canada. And, yes, she is dazzling.
