His new playing style is just completely obnoxious, whereas the tapping and whammy bar use in this video is some of the most melodic and beautiful guitar work I've ever heard. That's why I'm so disappointed in his new work. I can't even listen to it because it's so awful.

Vai rocks! He certainly different. There is something about his guitar sound though, that I don't like. It sounds too muddy. I guess I am just partial to clean sound. That isn't to say, that this still isn't a very great performance by him.

To sweep, tap, and even sweep tap like that, with that kind of tone, and that kind of melodic sense, with such speed and ease, emotion too- is something I can honestly say doesn't come with practice, its raw talent that has been polished to perfection.
