i have a question. in this video you state that shamanix is the study of ways to help us view things that effect our reality that we cannot see in our physical reality. so would enducing yourself under the influence of hallucinogenic drugs be a way to study shamanism?
i cant say that i have the same views on everything as you, but I love your videos. I wish there were more thought provoking philosophies like this on the internet.
'Any process interested in "what happens next" ' is a statement to which intellect is prerequisite, merely because it contains the word 'interest'. However, intellect itself requires life for sustenance. Please abstain from using self-defining yet self-defeating statements.
Schrodinger defined life as any process that creates pockets of negative entropy. Since a star, like any other entropic chemical reaction, is not creating negative entropy, I would say it's not alive.
A bacterium, in its tiny way, is using energy to create order, a little "pocket of negative entropy", that enables it to continue being more than just a chemical reaction. I talk about this in my latest vlog, "Logic vs. Intuition".
Rob, there is no system or body that maintains 0K. Anything above 0K is a body that has radiation. Hence, no observable body or system in this world can exhibit negentropy. Bacteria or humans, they all try to organize their body while creating more entropy in the form of radiation/heat.
Albert Lehninger: the "order" produced within cells as they grow and divide is more than compensated for by the "disorder" they create in their surroundings in the course of growth and division.
Now, consider my argument against your take on connection between life and entropy.
As per the definition of entropy, the formation of a star out of a well distributed cloud of gases, itself is an effort to decrease entropy to degrees. A much more successful effort than that of humans and bacteria combined. Formation of heavier atoms in the core of the star is yet another process. Ultimately, formation of black holes is the greatest of all examples in contribution to orderliness or negentropy.
Now, let us take the example of a furniture. A wooden table, for example, maintains its body with the help of intermolecular force, while radiating much less heat/entropy than do humans or bacteria.
On the basis of negentropy, would you consider the table more alive than humans?
Since Aristotle to Einstein, people have always realized that the definition of life would have to take into consideration so many aspects that the definition will itself be invalidated even before it is complete.
Yep, that's why Schrodinger called it "pockets" of negative entropy. In our physical world entropy eventually always wins, and physical things eventually always die, but life pushes against that tendency while it's alive. You have to get "outside" of spacetime before you can see the patterns that do actually exert their selection processes without having to worry about that darn entropy.
I won't be doing the video version for a few months yet, but search for "beer miracles dimension"

I define life as being any process interested in "what happens next". This would apply just as much to the first chemical reactions that began to self-replicate in the primordial soup as it would to any life in the universe that we might some day discover.
Most people (but not all) would agree that a rock is not interested in "what happens next", but a bacterium is.
excellent vid. i really appreciate his presentation on the subject and his openness to anything that will further his understanding. thank you very much!
I subscribed because I'm interested in the topic of quantum mechanics, and I find your talks quite interesting. But it would be very helpful if you would drop the visual tricks and flashing colors. I realize you are having fun with it and feel it demonstrates a bit of the subject matter at hand, but it's extremely distracting and makes it hard to focus on what you are talking about when provide such visual distraction. Thanks and keep up the videos...great material.
Distracting? Don't look at it then! The only thing that you really need to see with your eyes are the links - WHICH ARE a purposeful distraction/re-direction. You have a poor way of trying to remedy your attention handicap.
Well it may be a harsh way have put, that is the last commentor of your comment, but this is the "style" of the director. All his other videos are like this. The pictures help to give visualization to people who are less... imaginative, quite possibly you are over imaginative and there do not need all the "flashy stuff", but it makes it fun to watch. You dont go watch a movie and tell the director please stop with all the special effects your ruining the dialouge.
I like how you commented on 0, I've noticed how much it shows up, most of the most important shapes in life and in the universe follow a "0" shape, the earth, eggs, the human brain, cells, ect ect Its a perfected shape, with no flaw in it. It might be a little on the sacred geometry side, but I'm sure you've heard of Pythagoras right Rob? He explained the relation between music and numbers and spoke of certain shapes that always appear in nature ... i.e. the golden spiral ...
Yes, I've been working on an entry about sacred geometry for quite a while now, it's such a huge topic and there's so much interesting info out there that it's really quite daunting, but it's definitely something that can be related to this way of visualizing reality.
sacred geometry? i don't suppose you believe in numerology as well? btw the word you were thinking of near the end there was "affected", not "effected." how do you "effect" something anyways?
Have you even looked at or examined Sacred geometry? Or are you following the pretense of your small pre-defined assumptions of how much you don't know? I'll say the same applies for numerology as well, for you have to be seriously thick headed and shallow not to see a connection there. You can effect something really easy, right now I'm effecting this computer, you seem like one of those people who lives on the basis of what they are only told.
Or if i do mushrooms, I do not get any visual effects ever. I have taken 9g of potent mushrooms and still do not visually "trip" at all. It just brings a heightened sense of everything. Total clarity into how and why everything is. But I don't see it, touch it, taste it, or feel it. I just get it. I am it.
When you do the shrooms smoke some pot like 10 minutes aftre it will make the shrooms kick in lol and then you will see crazy things man I swear, i saw thousands of reptillian eyes, like crocodile eyes, I was 16 then and I havent had a trip like that in 8 years, Anyways now I know better and that thing I saw was Gin,
Yes, I think drugs don't alter you perception of reality, they just bring you into "different realities" Things our senses normal can't pick up and perceive, I found it very interesting that people who have used DMT who reported to "hear colors" and "see sounds" from a scientific viewpoint thats not for from the reality of the matter ... in reality light is just a vibiration of different energies vibirating at trillions of times in an instant so in a weird way you are actually "hearing" sound.
yeah except for one problem. "sound" is the vibration of air molecules; not the vibration of "different energies" which could not possibly cause the vibration of a molecule of anything (photons are massless)
For instance, when meditating, I often start to perceive that I am not breathing, but the room is breathing me. It is a subtle shift that makes all the difference in the world. I'm not sure how you would go about inducing a feeling shift like that.
I'm not sure the whole virtual reality/augmented reality thing could ever work as laid over information on our five senses. I think alot of it comes to you by other means/senses(what that would be i have no idea), then depending on how each of our brains work, that information is perceived/translated as something seen or heard, etc. I think how it is perceived is based on your own individual brain. So any machine translation of that information might not make any sense to most people
I love the "we start with a point" intro.

So you disagree that a bacterium exhibits processes designed to further its own continuance?
10thdim 2 years ago
1. Please define continuance. (Before you use the word 'embodiment', I seek you to define that too, with utmost detail)
2. If merely continuance defines life, would you consider stars blessed with life?
