Young Tyrone had a seven-year marriage to non-Latino Mexican actress, Linda Christian ('49-'56) who left him for a Spanish athlete and race car driver. Those who visited their home in those days were treated to large-size naked pictures of them both over the couch. I can envision how shocking that must have been to visitors in the '50s, or even now. The Spaniard, Alfonso de Portago, crashed his Ferrari killing at least 12 after a kiss from Christian in 1957. Power died of a heart attack in 1958.
It is really funny lately to see comments on movies mostly from the 30's to the '50's signifying their plot or storyline as propaganda. I suppose that it is the PC thing to do which is ridiculous. The prevailing belief throughout much of the world is not propaganda.
I'm a Tyrone Power fan and I thought this was a war movie, but it turned out to be a soap opera and a propaganda film! I spent the whole movie waiting for war scenes. The opening scene with the upper crust around the dinner table was delightful: "I believe in equality, I'm willing to be equal with anyone, just so long as they don't try to be equal with me."
