  • For those who would critique Mlle. Demessieux, it must be remembered that she was a direct reflection of her teacher, Marcel Dupre, who prescribed absolute legato, sober registrations, and moderate tempos. Musicological progress and curiosity were not in his nature; he preferred to adhere to the strict tenets handed down from Guilmant and Widor.

Demessieux DID try in later years to adopt newer ideas on articulation, but she was so inured to the Dupre esthetic that she found it impossible.

  • Tedious. Puts me to sleep. Some notes need to be connected to create a musicaline.

Need to hear the last movement to wake me and make me forget what was just played.

    WHERE IS IT?

  • @robertgift

The third movement starts at 3:53

  • @MrOrganophile Thanks. I could not stand to listen through this. My student plays it better.

  • @MrOrganophile Hey! Not bad! 1953? Wow!

  • Very boring performance, on top of a boring movement I'm afraid. And I'm a Bach lover.
