"Now this next part might seem a little confusing, but just watch it a couple to get the hang of it. What you're doing is squashing the bottom down, so that it forms a triangle, and when that happens the top is forming a triangle too because of all those guidelines we made. So look at it from the side and you see theres the bottom triangle, then the sides go in and out at the middle, and then a trop triangle. Once you get it all set give it nice creases to flatten out the inside parts.
And again this might be something that looks confusing at first, but if you get that piece all folded up nicely, and take a look at this a couple times, it will really start to make sense."
To put it in simpler terms, FOLD A WATER BOMB BASE!!!!

Teehee, you fold really fast. Well, fast for someone making a video. I myself get sick of the whiners "Ooh, your going to darn fast!". I think its refreshing that someone is comfortable with folding at their own pace while making a video. Good on ya.
Anyhoo, i heart this model. I might even make a video....if my camera ever comes good >:(
There's no "trick" to opening it - you just gently start unfolding it, i.e. you go backwards along the instructions. The whole idea is that you can't open it easily, that once it's unfolded, it stays unfolded.
thank you this is cool and very easy to make and when i finished making it i was looking for a way to open it and i have found a way it is quiet easy to open it then i refolded it and i got it on the line so thanks for helping me
Such a wonderful idea. I'm relatively new to origami but managed this rather easily. One question though, and perhaps it's a stupid one, but how do you open it afterwards? Maybe I'm patting myself on the back too soon and I did something wrong, but now I can't get it open. It really is a knot LoL
Very carefully! The point is it's hard to open so nobody else could then ever refold it exactly right, to "sneak a look". You would have to ease it open in essence undoing your folds.
Sure thing! Again for people trying this - it *is* hard. Try the other ones first, get the hang of folding things, and then try this one patiently :) You'll get the hang of it!
This is one of the more challenging shapes, so it's good to start with a few of the others and to work your way up to this one. Also it'll probably take a few tries to get the hang of it - but once you do it's really cool!
yeah, i've been doing origami for a while, i was fine with this shape, really, its just one turn that you did that i didnt catch and i had to go back and see where i had missed something. i did one without any guides later and i remembered all the steps. i also folded it back and got all the squigly lines to match
I'm looking at 2:23 and that is really just showing the basic "triangle base" which has a triangle on top, one on the bottom and then the "in and out" on each side. Are you having trouble making that shape? Or are you saying you're having trouble going from that to the half-square, half-triangle shape that exists at 2:53?
Hello, at 4.43 when you have to fold the top layer upwards I get stuck because the straight edge side is stuck to the straight edge side of the opposite triangle, I can only fold the top of the piramid down instead of the base up and obviously it doesn't work. I've tried it several times already and I just can't figure out where I went wrong ... every time. Could you help me please?
In the love knot there are a lot of steps that involve folding the flap from left to right, i.e. not a fold really, but rearranging which "face" of the shape is pointing up. It sounds like you probably missed one of those. You ended up with the pyramid end being open and not the straight end. Try doing it again and focusing on those "face swaps".
Well, you would do the exact same steps in reverse. But if you make it so tight that you can *not* unfold it without damaging it, that is PERFECT!! It means nobody could possibly intercept it and your message is completely safe.
Funny. I got the lines to line up just fine. Just had to follow the existing lines gently and not add any new ones.

Grr. I messed up somewhere along the line, 'cause when I got to about 4:20 I realized that the triangle part of my paper wasn't open D: sigh.

@QrtrHrseLvr13 New shapes often take a few tries to figure out. Start again with a fresh piece of paper, and after a few rounds you'll be fine!

@QrtrHrseLvr13 i reckin you forgot to fold the halves to the side to get there :p

when you take the side and fold them in the opposite way to make a pointed triangle i keep on getting one big triangle at the top.
bernechead15 4 years ago
Can you tell me the time stamp for where you are stuck?

Aha, try writing with a finer pen then, and putting in more squiggles. It sounds like your origami skills are too fine for thick lines :)
