Instead of reading about it, I'll go with experience. Any car will perform well when it is maintained. That said, American cars are more needy require more replacement than others. Sensors were meant to tell us when something goes not, not to be replaced on a 4:1 ratio.
I can only talk from Ford/Dodge experience. I had to buckle down and pay the extra for a Honda, of which I have no complaints these past 3 years. My only pref is for reliability, which I found. Don't miss my ford so much now
All those cars are made in europe. Ford europe goes great, and for Opel and Volkswagen its the same. Opel only needs money because they make outdatet cars in Detroit. And that where al the money goes.
So maybe Fors and GM should bring the european models to the US. And americans should buy those comfortable fuel efficent cars.
The building quality and material finish of the european Ford models is much better than the US models. Nicer and smoother materials. Not the cheap plastic dash.
Do you live in a cave? You certainly are uninformed. Ford takes a backseat to noone when it comes to quality and safety. Just read the third party reports on those metrics. Get out of the '80s and join the modern world. No sense displaying your ignorance for all to see.
Quality is an objective thing which is measurable. It is not based on your above mentioned preferences when it comes to design. That is the reason I asked if you lived in a cave. This reply certainly doesn't help your case because if you actually looked at consumer reports or JD Power ratings which are third party ratings of all vehicles, Ford Motor is on equal footing in quality. That is an objective, scientific FACT. Ford also dominated the safety ratings which came out last month.
keep driving your civic and camry. Cause Americans have now did a fine job of giving there jobs away to foreign markets. I can't wait until the South American trade agreement happens.
If you did some reading and investigating the quality issue, you could not say what you have said about quality. It proves that you are unread on this issue. Therefore, I have backed up my point with facts and you seem to have nothing but either a preference for Japanese designed cars or you have some emotional dislike for American cars. There is nothing wrong with either one, but you should refrain from making ignorant comments about the lack of American quality because that is factually wrong.
The ONLY reason that the Big 3 are being considered for a further bailout has nothing to do with jobs. It is purely and simply that if any of them fail, then it will expose trillions of Dollars of derivatives liabilities in the Big 5 banks. TRILLIONS of Dollars exposure. The banks are already insolvent (look at Citigroup this week). Ford, GM, Chrysler have been off-shoring, out-sourcing, and laying off 000's of workers for decades. This has nothing to do with jobs, everything to do with banks.
About time someone realized this. The number one loss of American jobs isn't Chapter 11, but profit margins gained by going overseas.
Check this: the week a GM plant indefinitely shut down and the Big 3 made their first appearance on Capitol Hill, Honda opened another US plant. Better pay, btw.
Seems like the auto-industry isn't hurting that bad, just these guys. Shame, I really enjoyed some of my past Fords and was hoping they'd make another decent car.
Hows this if they want a bailout, they gotta promise to make cars that will last minimum 100,000km without breaking down, i'd love to see a new explorer where the tranny wont fail after a month, thats y no one wants these cars and they lose so much money, thats why people buy import cars cause sure it costs more to fix but it wont break down as often, ford, chevy, chrysler stopped making reliable cars roughly around the mid 90s to late. Wheres the money if the car lasts a long time?
Can't say the same for Dodge or Chevy, but Ford has taken some noticable steps. I'll admit that the Fusion and Focus are more reliable than their predecessors, but still a bit behind. Ford also has to let time pass to prove their reliability. Previous years have tarnished their name and it'll take some years to show that there is something decent underneath the look of the car.
I love how these CEO's fly on private jets. Then ask you to thousands of dollars for a car. And their families also use those planes. We don't need upper management we need workers. Let's build america. Not spend Americans money. Get rid of CEO's put it into the working man hands and lets spend it in our country.

I've driven a lot of different cars and I love the new Fords. Of course, with a name like "spudmustang" I'm probably a little biased.

Coming in 2013, the Ford Obamanator.

Why do we keep calling them the big three when they are the only ones who can't make a decent fucking car?
cheeriopisser2 3 years ago
I don't fully agree...
This is the podium for Car of the year - 2009
1 - GM Insigna
2 - Ford Fiesta
3 - Volkswagen Golf
The last Ford Fusion 2010 is best hybrid ever...
Ford ecoboost engines (30% more efficient can cover 90% of the US market) have no competitor...
GM Volt is unique without competition...
Toyota, Nissan were the first to launch the race to high capacity engines...
I think the US auto makers should communicate a little more about technics rather than finance ...

I totally agree with myself.

Go drive a Civic, then drive a Focus. Go Drive a Camry then drive a Taurus.
It would take an idiot to buy a Ford for design or quality sake. Price? Perhaps, if you aren't considering resale value.

Unnecessary low blow. But as long as you're along those lines, isn't the White House basically government-funded housing?
