  • hello trisha, i ha gastric bypass 8/28/08 i also had a grand mal siezure may of 2011. i continue to have episods none as dramatic as the first. I als have lost my lic. and am struggling to maintain normal life with this condition. I also have no findings other than low blood pressure when I have the seizures. would love to know what you find. carrie

  • considering the extra skin. I would also love to know why this happens. Not only is it scary for me, my daughter and my family, but not knowing is even scarier. I would NEVER recommened this surgery to anyone, not even my enemy. Yes it works wonders for some people, but sooooo many of the people that I know that have had the gastric bypass have had nothing but complications. My own brother almost died due to his surgery. Its not all its made out to be.

  • b4 they gave me some type of medicine, that I was then able 2 see again. I was in the hospital for 2 weeks. During that time my lab results were all over the board, they tested me 4 EVERYTHING. The answer: We dont know. I had a past (childhood) of 2 seizures, but had been seizure free and medication free for 15 years, but they automatically assumed it was that. I now struggle EVERYDAY 2 try and stay above 100lbs, which that is even underweight for my height especially

  • You know, this absolutely crazy. I had gastric bypass in 2008, in 2009 I had drops ALL of my excess weight, and had actually become underweight. At one point I was down to 90 lbs and i am 5'2". I know exactly how you feel when you talk about being "babysat." In 2009, I had the first of severeal seizures. It was soo bad, I ended up in ICU for 3 days, and I could not see. When I would open my eyes, it seemed as though someone was holding a sheet over my eyes. It took 2 days,

  • Hi my name is Lisa I am 7 years out of gastric bypass. I have had partial complex seziures the past 2 years. Now recently started to have grand mal have had 3 in the past week. I have had a week long eeg. I have extremley low iron levels and have had to have iron transfusions. I am willing to do what it takes to get my life back.

  • Hi Tricia. I am 4 years out from my RNY gastric bypass (great outcome, no health issues ) performed by a fabulous bariatric surgeon in Central California. I had my first seizure 8/7/09 and have had two more since. They are Partial Complex Seizures, where I stare blankly and am technically unconscious. They last about 2-4 minutes, and I have no memory of them afterwards. I am seeing the neurologist next week to go over EEG/MRI results. I will be in touch when I know more. Be well -- Alisha

  • Your seziers started about 1 year later? Were you hungry after having surgery. How long did it tak you to lose 126 lbs? Possibly you lost weight too fast and body is in shock???

  • There are some symptoms that I have that are similar. I have spells where the indications are like that of a stroke. My jaw hangs down, eyes half closed, and legs shake. When I come out of it, my head hurts,I am exausted, and I have no memory of what occurred. My husband checked my blood sugar and it was elevated(257+197). After the spell, the blood sugar was normal(105+103) My bypass was done 10/2006

  • My heart goes out to you...to meltingmama, too. Your lives have been so limited by these seizures, and I'm so sorry for that. I just wish a neuro and an endocrinologist could somehow collaborate on a study. Have you contacted the National Institutes of Health? That's worth a try, too, to find out if anyone there is studying this. Stay strong...I'll bet an answer is not far off into the future.

  • Tricia, I don't know if you have checked this but when I mentioned the post RYGB seizures to Dr Paul Ernsberger who teaches nutrition in a medical school, he wrote:

"Seizures are symptomatic of several B-vitamin deficiency syndromes. These are seen almost exclusively in chronic alcoholics who mainly subsist on alcohol, until the advent of WLS."

If u have a B vitamin deficiency will prob. need injection. Check B1, B6, B12 - shld prob be injecting these weekly.

  • Aye. Let's keep on. And, I'm in Southern MA. So - maybe if we hit from both sides of the country we can find someone. *sigh*

  • oops! i spoke too soon!

  • Sounds like you should talk to meltingmamamelted about this experience because she is having similar issues. hope things get better soon.
