I have a different theory. I believe the drilling and the sattelite falling into the ocean awoke the monster. Remember when he says "maybe its from the sea or something". Thats my theory. Yours is very plausible too.

Well... people think they forcfully made marlena explode. Completely wrong. There was a soildier with his stomach exploded as someone posted down there =). Would they forcefuly kill thier own soldier? And even if they did... what would be so bad about a bite to make someone explode? Really, i think the mini's are filled with slusho... and the red pockets on cloverfields head... nectar.

um, well. the slusho people get the ingredients from the ocean floor, where the monster was. the motto is, "your stomach will explode of happy" so the monster on the floor of the ocean had some of that stuff in him. so the bite blows up your stomach. i dunno

The monster is not a whale. The fish to whale was a reference of a tiny fish eating slusho to become a whale.
It means that something ate the slusho and become cloverfield/monster. What ate slusho? No one knows. Probably a sea insect?

it said that a tiny fish became the SIZE of a whale, not an actual whale. ur a bit slow arent u? so that thing could be tiny bacteria or sumthin but a quadrillion times bigger

That is because the monster is indead an ALIEN. It is not an earth dwelling creature. The animation crew from the beginning said that they were gonna make an alien. Does that thing look like it would live in the ocean? Its babies were Fucking spider things!

The movie was named Cloverfield because that was a street outside JJ Abrams office and when they did the whole viral marketing thing they just thought they would keep it as Cloverfield so people wouldn't get confused. It was originally going to be called Grey Strike.

really? hmmm. That makes more sense. I downloaded the credits and listened to the end over 20 times and it sounded like he said "a yellow watch." So "they all watched" is very close so it makes much more sense. I'm still not too sure. What's it mean? "They" the audience?
