Pam... I'm in love with Twix! He's awsome and very very fast. He seems to enjoy agility so much! And you are a very good handler too!
Can I ask you something? (yes, of course I can LOL) Which toys do you use as a reward? My dog doesn't like frisbees as a reward and neither tug toys I think... he likes balls and treats but I think food isn't so good for agility isn't it? which other rewards can I use??
@PaulaFlanin Thanks Paula, I am working on a DVD for agility foundations right now, but one of the parts will be on how to build anything as a reinforcer. I can use my hat and my shoes and my dogs will play with them. I would start by giving a treat after your dog plays or even mouths a tug toy. Then play, click and treat. Once he will play, then you can sometimes reward with a toy and if he play he can earn a treat too. Alternate between treats and toys so he never knows what he will get.
@PaulaFlanin Hope that helps some, it is hard to explain it in a short YT response. :) I will have treats on me and my dogs would rather play, so I will give a treat and if they take the treat they can play. :) This builds the food as more of a reinforcer. You will have to do the opposite play and if he plays treat. :) Then just alternate with the rewards. Sometimes a toy, sometimes food. :) The dog never knows and that is more exciting and makes you unpredictable. :)
Twix has so much drive, it is amazing. I can not wait to have a doggy with lots of drive, it seriously looks so fun to be able to do this all the time!
@TheWigglebutt Thanks! He does have drive and is quick. I know that when he starts jumping full height, it will slow him down some, but I hope he does keep some of his speed. :) It is a blast working with two BC's that love agility and to do tricks. I love being on spring break and getting to practice agility and canine freestyle every day! It is so fun. I just wish I did not have to go back to work on Monday. :(
You rock :)
