I sleep in my van...But i have the money to go to the gym, buy food and all the basic stuff....I even go to the bars to pick up chicks, i tell them i'm rich and they have no idea i'm homeless lol
@cleberinthearea A lot of people do stuff like that, the biggest problem for me was having time on my hands and nowhere really safe to be in the daytime. I was really lucky to be in a warm climate, for homeless up North it's a much different story this time of year.In a lot of ways being homeless was actually a blessing, it forced me to wake up to a lot about myself and the world around me.I worked day labor or whatever I could find until eventually I found a place.
@michellehill94 When I was homeless in FL I had a lot of time to read the bible and go to the library and just spend time with god in my head. I went to several churches looking for God, but I never found him there only on a few people did I see him, I felt like I just didn't belong there. The people I met on the street accepted me as is, and I accepted them as is, I think I learned more about God there than anywhere else
It's funny with what you mention about how people are regarding "Jobs" - I was told when I graduated in the early 90's that employers look down on people who appear to be too autonomous or too ambitious. So much of this is conditioning, and now that there is a need to be industrious, people who've played by the rules they were taught have no idea what to do next.
How much more money are we going to throw at this problem? A trillion more? 10 trillion? How about 100 trillion? That should cure poverty, right? Because as we've seen since the New Deal, throwing money at poverty will reduce poverty.. right? Wrong! We've spent TONS of money to fight poverty and the poverty rate has remained nearly flat!
@spec24 Throwing money the way they have been doing is useless, I think the only real solution is for people to return to a self sufficiency mentality. If you give someone a fish they eat for a day but if you teach someone how to fish they eat everyday.
@spec24 Agreed. But how about creating jobs. What you are seeing is people that have lost the will to do anything. I would bet that if they were taken case by case. They all have something to give back to sociaty. I am neither left or right, rep or dem, conservative or liberal. I am an American. It makes me angry when I see people on the streets. Most of whom are mentally ill. Reagan did that. Put all the insane on the street. It is easy to call people names. It is hard to help someone. Try It !
I know some folks in social services and I'm going to recommend your video. More people who can do something need to hear the truth about poverty. Thanks.
I missed a way they describe some HL they are called SLEEPING ROUGH when they have absolutely no shelter they find a box ( been there) or sleep in a park (there too). I don't consider people sleeping a car as homeless we have some that rather sleep in their car it is how they travel. I call car sleepers RUBBER TRAMPS. This can be a RV,Van or even a trailer behind a van. Everybody needs to know survival techniques they must have a hammock sleep bag etc ways to stay fit in the bush we need 2learn.
@cdltpx Thank you for sharing your story. I agree there are various levels of homelessness, You see a lot of what they call the hidden homeless now. Emergency rooms doctors are seeing kids with malnutrition in the ER now not just because they don't have food but because the food doesn't have proper nutrition in it.
Then there are the instutionalized people, military, prisoners, former hospital patients these have not been retrained to return to the world. They have a higher rate of HLness because they were not reprogrammed to make it. I was HL many times in my life when I was 16 19-24,31 When I was young I was just busted no money I worked all the time but would get beat out of my $ by family. When I was 31 it was the first time I was HL and temp crippled. I got well returned to trucking and saved $.
Professor Eric Hirsch said there are various levels of HL majority of HL are doubling up(staying w/frineds or family unvoluntarily) Then you have unsheltered (totally outdoors) they might sleep in cars, abandonded buildings, emergency rooms, graveyards, even porta potty. Amelioration =Shelters and soup kitchens most will stay in these places very short time and will beg friends or family to double up. There might be a solution here on yt they are called UrbanFarmGuy they are worth lookng at
Money is the problem. barter is the answer. no business is going to work right now, except the business of informing people about the Lord. it is written what is happening now. the entire history & characters of the bible, are for us right now. Focus on that, not this world.
I do want to bring one particular issue up though.I stand strongly opposed to the use of the term "mental" when referring to an illness or other affliction associated with the brain. In NO way am I directing ANY hostility at U.However,U know about how damaging stigmas are,and THAT term, continues to stigmatize millions. When we are able to remove the brain from our bodies, and continue to fully function normally, then,we can considsider these to be anything different from other physical illnesses.
Michelle, first I want to say thank you,for this very important, yet,so under rated and misunderstood, subject. If only I had the ability to make and upload my own videos, without the use of wifi or a PC, I swear, I would no longer take it for granted as I did before I became homeless, for the 2nd time recently, having to pawn my my entire computer system, along with the few other items of monetary value, giving me a grand total of $125.00 . Which I lost of course, not being able to afford to get it out .

Very touching story! Sometimes we go through bad things to bring us out on a better side of life, ironic as it may see. Happy it worked out for you!
