  • Oh there goes my guitaring ego.

  • A true master of the guitar, you continue to inspire me Antoine.

    - Jesse

  • Still one of the most inspiring pieces ever...

  • just like playing a 4 hands piano solo using 2 hands.... amazing!

  • One of my favorite guitarists out there. Amazing talent.

  • :o

  • To everyone:

I don't think they want to become famous. They want to play because they actually love it.... not as a way to make a butt load of money.

  • @Damien420Cross They wouldn't be signed with record labels and selling tabs if they didn't want to make money. Don't be naive; they may love the music, but they need a way to support themselves as well.

  • @pseudogenesis How was I being naive? Sure they do it to make a living of course, but don't mistake that for fame and fortune.

  • These songs, all of them are inplausable, yet there they are, there's the proof. Each one makes me think, "Today's a new day. I can make it whatever I want. And if it doesn't go the way I want it to, there's always tomorrow." Every note is the first bite of a sweet dessert. Every song is a motovation, a reason, another start, another way of saying life is too short to let the little things get to you, but that doesn't mean you should ignore the mundane when there's beauty in them.

  • this makes me cry every time

  • These commercials are obnoxious. I come here seeking Antoine's serenades and I'm ambushed by some retard yelling at me at the top of his lungs to buy shitty cars.

  • @heegohordavio use adblock plus for firefox, you'll never see commercials again

  • 5:20 ....Genious

  • Where can you find the tabs for this? they arent available on his website anymore

  • @ikeepsecrets1 you can get them on the candy rat website

  • @ThisAutocracy nope they arent up anymore

  • Simply....Amazing.

  • Who said you need a full band to make a prog song?

  • i think chuck norris is jelous on his talent :-D

  • O:

  • eyebrows @1:53

  • your shit inspires me. this is amazing my mind has been orgasmed to death ahhhhhh

  • with those fingerskills he should be a neurosurgeon

  • You think you're so god damn clever don't you Antoine? Well you are. amazing

  • Awesome

  • 1:12-1:16 Is The most atmospheric thing I have heard in my life

  • Amazing how those other 2 guys playing with him are invisible

  • @BroJonKai This is all done by himself on one guitar. On this cd, there is bass and another guitar being played in the background. The video and audio don't quite match up so it fools us.

  • It goes in through my ears and down my spine and gives me chills.... So good.

  • 43 people are black....

  • @jason111888 ....wtf??

  • @jason111888 WTH are you talking about?

  • It's a shame. Any teenage kid who knows how to work an auto tuner can get massive publicity really quickly, but the raw expressive music like this that takes a lot of talent doesn't get around that much. I listen to metal and stuff, but this is definately a great change of pace, and it's naturally beautiful and it inspires emotion.

  • please god put this guy on MTV this will be my last wish so do it.

  • I would cut off my left arm to be able to play like him for one minute. On second thought, I would cut off my left foot.

  • If my life had to have music put to it, I would choose this!

  • there are 43 people who dont know what good music is...

  • @CyberColossus So many more people who don't.....just we're all lucky enough to not have them disgrace this section of the good music industry.

  • Was ein erstaunliches Lied.

  • It's funny that guitarists are the only people who truly appreciate this sort of music. I guess it's cause we know what it takes to get even a fraction of the skill as someone like Antonie. I put three hours a day of hard playing to my fingers and I still can't get the same song sounding right - which is why I worship this guy and anyone who puts so much soul and effort into their music without the slightest care in the world of fame or fortune (the two things they deserve the most).

  • @BigCanOfBeans Well said.

  • @BigCanOfBeans I don't consider myself a guitarist and I appreciate this sort of music.

  • @BigCanOfBeans im no guitarist.. but i do appreciate this as an art form. His music is quite unlike anything ive ever heard. Him and Andy Mckee. im just buying his CD's as i listen to this actually.

  • @BigCanOfBeans ...question are you using a bartione guitar like him :P cuase it may not be your skill lol might be the guitar :P bartitones are tune into fourths, in other word 2 and half steps down and they have longer necks and alot better sound IMO

  • @sommervilleTRS117 Normal one. But it's not this i'm playing - it's an Opeth song called Benighted. First song I tried to play, and at long last I got it down pat :D

  • @BigCanOfBeans The fact that mostly only guitarists like this would be funny if it weren't sad... I mean, come on! This guy creates his own weird tunings, weird playing styles... He does all three parts of music - Harmony, melody and rhythm - with just ONE guitar and two hands. And how the hell are a bunch of musicians who are so overproduced that they need playbacks to play live more famous than this guy ?

  • @defuntoba I'm going to assume that it's because those more famous 'musicians' are just an image for the record company, and because people listen to the radio so often, AND because those record companies have so much money, they become famous very quickly. But if you were talking about Opeth, they are entirely different. They became famous through a tonne of har times. If that's what you were talking about :S

  • His hands make mine look like feet :/

  • If I were the moon, I wouldn't want to hide from this

  • Anyone tabbing it, The tuning is weird..

    it's like DAC#G#AE (the e could also be a d.)

I've got the basics down, I just still am working on the tapping parts.

  • @Domii8D If you go to his website, antoinedufourmusic . c o m and go to the "FAQ" page, the is a listing of the tuning of all his songs.

  • this is really beautiful!!! speaking as a composer I can feel emotional link with the music and the title... F-sharp minor...good key for this song.

  • @0031Daniel Because we haven't found them.

  • 43 People are so narrow minded, they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.

  • @0031Daniel LMAO...(to those 43 people) Bitch assa mistake!

  • I wonder how come something that doesn't have any word is able to speak with us so much. Amazing!!!

  • why does the little chinese kid suck my jung get more love than Antoine... That little kid copies peoples arrangements and the ones he writes blow....what a hack.

  • @shrnthegroove coz the kid is like 12 or something :P altough antoine does deserve more recognition

  • I fell in love with this song almost 2 years ago...and I still am...

  • does ne one know what brand guitar tht Dufour plays on lol I really like the body shape cuz it has a classsical guitar type body n I've always appreciated classical guitar : )

  • @fender89s I think it's a Stonebridge.

  • @fender89s < Go to school and learn to fucking spell and write properly and i may just tell you.

  • -rapes the like button so fast youtube screws up-

  • (-( Love )-)

  • this song is how i feel. thank you antoine, this song is helping me get through something.

  • Are there any tabs for this song? I couldn't find it at candyrat's homepage... I NEED THIS!! :)

  • @HUNrobar Nope, there are no tabs. You need to learn it by ear. I've tabbed it out but they're not completely correct, it sounds pretty much spot on though.

  • @daihashi There are tabs if you buy them from Candyrat records.

  • @metalbynumber There are not tabs for hiding place for the moon. I know because I wrote my own. Go look at the website; you'll see they aren't there. I've purchased plenty of tabs, I know what tabs are out there.

  • @daihashi Were did u write ur own?

  • @treeradioproductions on my computer, with guitar pro.

  • @daihashi Is it available to the public, and does it work good? I want to make a tab for trace bundys bristlecone, and it will be my first, so if its easy, plz let me no

  • @daihashi woops! my bad! They have plenty of songs from that album as transcriptions. They dont have "A Hiding Place For The Moon" Sorry people!

  • Brilliant

  • 1:12 = pure magic

  • This song is so awesome Chuck Norris considers it his nemesis.

  • 42 people can't find a place to hide.

  • ooooo...nasty good

  • i didnt know he was a blood

  • @FloridianAsshole22 ha ha ha ha nice...I hope Andy Mckee isn't a Crypt!

  • @pandafuryface

    crip*

  • @FloridianAsshole22 Nice attempt of a joke. The only reason why he puts a bandanna there is to stop the resonance of the strings at the head and tuners. He also uses blue bandannas aswell

  • The moon hides in his guitar.

  • @CorruptSoul3219 the moon hides behind his talent.

  • @ZacVrono That must be a pretty big moon.

  • I heard this song on Friday night while browsing Last FM. One of them songs you sit there and stare at the sky!

  • simply... righteous

  • no but seriously this and catching the light i thing are my favorites from Antoine.

  • he uses 1337 H4X!

  • @Orion1205 and apparenly you do not ,,right nOObs

  • A hiding place for the moon is u my friend:D

  • 42 people are just flat out jealous

  • So believe it or not... I know of this guy because I set an Opeth station on Pandora and his music came up.

    Beautiful music.

  • Can anybody tell me what sort of lap support he uses and maybe how to find one? My breedlove likes to move too much.

  • @drummerboy1692 He uses a support called the ErgoPlay

  • he raised his eyebrows just about 30 times. this song must have been a hand full, and i understand why. pure creativity.

  • +1 again

  • It's like he is making love to his guitar..amazing expressions and delicate pressing of the fingers on the frets...the result is so magical

  • No matter how many times I leave.

I always come back to this song.

  • oh my god

  • my favorite of his is : to run in a dream

  • Is it me or does he give it a little spank at 1:37 because hes making sweet love to that guitar?

  • I could listen to his music all day (=

  • what are you doing at this point in time 1:11 that was amazing

  • @apologizeplease basically he's just using harmonics. He is tapping the fretwire that's one octave higher than the note he's playing on that string. So if he's holding the 3rd fret on the G string, he would tap the fretwire of the 15th fret on the same string very lightly.

  • @bren6977 He actually plucks these. He holds his index finger so it lightly touches over a harmonic point and plucks the string with either the ring finger or pinky to sound the harmonic but these are natural harmonics, not "artificial" harmonics made by pushing down a fret and playing the harmonic node 12 frets up. He is simply playing the open string harmonic nodes at the 12th and 19th frets.

  • @katanamanatee wow. you're right. You really gotta look close to see it, but you are most certainly right. It's amazing how much detail he puts in his playing.

  • @bren6977 Indeed, there is a lot going on in this tune, bit of a tricky one to figure it out. I was hoping Antoine had a tab for this tune to buy but sadly he doesn't and it is probably my favourite tune of his. Been learning it by watching this video and listening to the original recording. I'm quite used to these techniques but I imagine they must be confusing to pick out when you aren't used to them! I certainly was when I first saw this kind of playing.

  • @katanamanatee What kind of tuning did you figure out for it?

  • @bren6977 I found a note of the tuning on the Andy McKee forum, it is DAC#G#AE.

  • @katanamanatee oh sweet. thanks. im gonna try and give this song a shot.

  • Chuck norris uses glasses??? =O

  • I love the begining. If someone didn't know who this was and had never heard this song before, they would be sitting going: "aww this is gunna be crap.....holy *%^$"

  • @boredwan lol

  • @boredwan Lol I am one of those

  • The right hand is just amazing. Great technique.

  • soul-balm <3

  • wow who would dislike this xD whichever people did that are douche bags that deserve to be fucked by a bear

  • I can play this pretty fluently now, and i've gotta tell you. i know how it feels to play like this now. It's serene.

  • @Shredsk8team Yeah, listening to the song while you play it is truly a different experience than just listening. Both amazing in their own rights.

  • This awesome, I love 5/4. What kind of guitar is that? Its so sweet and warm.

  • Genius

  • He's a 1000 year old vampire.

That's the only explanation for why someone who LOOKS to be around 30 is so good.

  • Kill to be this good!!!!!

  • The backdrop makes me think some terrorists are about to come and cut his head off.

  • @jlbradders His music would turn them into stone immediately! I think I'd turn to stone if I heard this live.

  • Great...

    See yoU

  • are u a born guitarist or a born legend

  • I could push this video over 1,000,000 views by myself.

  • @permutationsofpaul you should do that then becuse the fact that this has under two million is disgracefull there was a video posted two days ago abotu some kid who does a good football play and it alrady has over three million views so START HITTIN F5 PEOPLE REFRESH

  • @permutationsofpaul

    Do it faggot

  • @permutationsofpaul lets do it.

  • @AnOddMusician still not at a million. got bored?

  • @MrFaulconbridge yeah kinda xD

  • @AnOddMusician lol... I didn't think that comment would get so much traction (I've since changed my profile name) I am surprised this video has not even crossed the 600K mark.

  • Great

  • @ThirdEyeOpen84 who said they'll cry at your funeral ? :D

  • Comment removed

  • @ThirdEyeOpen84

    Nice idea :D

But a little bit macabre xD

  • Beautiful.

  • 41 people don't know wat true music is

  • Ha, you inspire me and discourage me at the same time, what on earth is this feeling ?

  • i love the part from 0:00 to 5:46 :)

  • At 1:26 he is like .. yaaa .. that's it !

  • @mabwannabe thats what she said.

  • Not only does he derive his awesome ability from the bandana, but also from that wild ass rug hanging in the background! haha, I bet he's got plenty of female friends.

  • Close those eyes man! Feel it! Hell yeah!

  • so many notes and that to just from one guitar :O man i wanna play like u!

awesome texture to ur music as well

  • How do you produce these first note ? you don't like to play high

  • the part from 1:12 to 1:30 has so much depth to it. unbelievably innovative.

  • how do you 41 not enjoy this?

  • this live version is much better than the recorded one for some reason. maybe he made some adjustments after finishing the CD

  • My favorite part is 0:01 - 5:45

  • Your songs never cease to amaze me. As a drummer, I can't comprehend the raw talent and technical skill it takes to play, much less write, pure art like this. I just read the post from Deposetheboyking here and thought I'd add that my 6-year-old son is also intrigued. He's been taking guitar lessons from my songwriting partner and when I showed him some of your videos today, it redoubled his efforts on his guitar practice. Kudos for inspiring future generations of musicians!

  • i know that they are both great mckee and dufour, but i like dufour better, more precision and technicality ! and some of his songs are more complex because of that....what the hell its beyond amazing, what both are doin !

  • que coisa mais linda de si ver e de ouvir , espero um dia tocar tão bem assim, muito 10 heheheeh

  • 5/4 time? I hate that I can't think of the things he does! haha amazing

  • this man is a real artist...my preferit song ever!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is one of your better songs. too bad the quality of this video isn't that great.

  • I understand the concept of differing taste in music, but I dont understand how you could dislike any musician who plays this eloquently unless you are jealous. This is for the haters....PISS OFF.....this piece is truely awe inspiring. Keep up the amazing work Antoine

  • syn gates from avenged sevenfold is my fav guitar player....but i wonder my self if he can do this...?

  • can anyone tell me the simplest Antoine song to play?

some of his work looks really challenging and I want to be able to play one song at least!

  • @Angealolo glimmer of hope is relatively easy, no name for love (maybe except for the bridge). I fing "mother" and "you and i" the easiest songs to play for me, but they suit my style. Just dont pick 30 minutes in london as a first song to learn. (im learning now, a bit of a struggle to get all the timing right.)

  • @IcantDunk

In my opinion, one of the simplest is ashes in the sea...not too rough however ;)

Even if my first antoine song was Spiritual Groove even if i had a lot of problems in the middle part. Than i fixed them ;)

  • @IcantDunk why choose a song based on how easy it is? i say go for the song you love the most; your determination and desire of playing guitar will carry you through...if it doesn't then you should't even bother...not trying to be a jerk but i learned hard piano songs without any lessons and i suck at piano...but i stuck with it for 2 years; yes it took me two years to learn a song. And i'm doing the same with Rylynn on guitar.

  • omFg ! Get out of that body, alien !!! haha

You're a magic guy.. I don't even know how you can do this.

    It's only UNBELIEVABLE ! Make more songs : )

  • @shotjoff Oh he's got plenty. He already has 4 solo albums out, and 1 duet album with his friend Tommy Gauthier. Naissance, Development, Existence, Still Strings and his newest, Convergences. It may take a while, but when you find the time, check them out!

  • this man is like magic
