I am from Australia and we have had NO problems at all... Our biggest communications company Telstra has the best network in the world and the iPhone has actually been tested and confirmed to have superior signal compared to other phones.

The problem is that we as people have an electrical current running through our body. So, when you pick up your Iphone. The signal is absorbed from the metal part of the phone and into your hand through your body. This results in loss of signal. The same thing is happening to my phone and I have an LG Shine. It has an all metal body.

I call it every way of holding the phone, not certain way. Once you're touching anywhere on the silver siding, it'll drop slowly. Even a bumper isn't fixing the problem, it helps, but it'll still drops in couple minutes instead of 20-30 seconds of regular use. People normally can accept its problem, but some apple freak will still argue.

Putting an antenna outside on the side like iphone 4 has, is not an intelligent design. The moment its comes in contact with your skin, it "grounds" !! Hence you see the issue.
Infact there is nothing innovative about this design. It has been thought by others too and have been rejected due to grounding issues.

It looks like Apple will be giving a press conference tomorrow morning. I can guess what they'll probably say. #1: they'll elaborate on their claim about the software solution for antenna problem. Their claim is basically valid, although to the uninformed, it sounds like a crock of bull. According to Anandtech's measurements, the iphone's bottom4 bars covers only a 10dBm range in signal strength, while the 5th bar covers a 40dBm range.
If an iphone4 user happens to be in a location with 4 bars or less, a very small change in signal strength can cause a big movement in the bar display. This is what happens when you grab the phone while at 4 bars or less. Apple's software fix will probably spread out the bars more evenly over the range of useful signal strength. Therefore, where you used to see 4 bars, you'll probably see 3 or 2. So in short, the flawed bar algorithm was making the antenna problem look worse than it really was
#2: There really is an antenna issue, according to Anandtech. Even though the bad display algorithm made it look worse, the fact still remains that there is a problem. The problem only causes dropped calls when you are in a 4 bar or lower area because when you show 4 bars, you could be within 10dBm of getting a signal too weak to use. So Apple will probably announce some kind of antenna remedy, most likely either giving a free bumper or a voucher, or a subsidy for one. That's my guess

You will find it very difficult to find a 3rd party iphone4 case that costs more than $25. In fact, Best Buy has one for $15. So the nice thing about this is that you can solve the antenna problem, save a little money, and also avoid rewarding Apple, all by buying a cheaper 3rd party case.

@xtreamparkour Apple is shipping free cases or "bumpers" to everyone with an iPhone 4 and they have found the same problem in many other phones, and to those of you that say "those phones don't actually drop bars when held a certain way" yes they do. The only reason you hear so many band things is because Apple is a HUGE company. Even their tiniest of mistakes will make headline news.

The problem is that we as people have an electrical current running through our body. So, when you pick up your Iphone. The signal is absorbed from the metal part of the phone and into your hand through your body. This results in loss of signal. The same thing is happening to my phone and I have an LG Shine. It has an all metal body.

fucking news propaganda. They just want to bring apple down because its dominating the phone market. Only 0.55% of all iphone 4 users went online to AppleCare and complained with a 6% return rate from AT&T. The iphone 4 only gives out 1 additional dropped call per 100 calls compared to the 3GS. And plus, go on youtube and search in all other smartphones such as Blackberry Bold 9700.. they all got the same weakspots. Pathetic people.

I totally agree with you! Nearly every company tries to copy the amazing iPhone and as a result that the iPhone cant get copied they try to bring down Apple`s phone. It is so rediculous..No problem occurs with the iPhone 4 exept the antenna problem, and now the media says that the iPhone 4 is shit.
The next thing is, you only can drop the signal if you hold the phone really tight, and in a special way. I bet that NOBODY holds his phone while speaking like they showed in the vid...

I call it every way of holding the phone, not certain way. Once you're touching anywhere on the silver siding, it'll drop slowly. Even a bumper isn't fixing the problem, it helps, but it'll still drops in couple minutes instead of 20-30 seconds of regular use. People normally can accept its problem, but some apple freak will still argue.

I work for a Mobile company. I will not state the name as one starts getting prejudice when names come in.
Putting an antenna outside on the side like iphone 4 has, is not an intelligent design. The moment its comes in contact with your skin, it "grounds" !! Hence you see the issue.
Infact there is nothing innovative about this design. It has been thought by others too and have been rejected due to grounding issues.

It looks like Apple will be giving a press conference tomorrow morning. I can guess what they'll probably say. #1: they'll elaborate on their claim about the software solution for antenna problem. Their claim is basically valid, although to the uninformed, it sounds like a crock of bull. According to Anandtech's measurements, the iphone's bottom4 bars covers only a 10dBm range in signal strength, while the 5th bar covers a 40dBm range.

If an iphone4 user happens to be in a location with 4 bars or less, a very small change in signal strength can cause a big movement in the bar display. This is what happens when you grab the phone while at 4 bars or less. Apple's software fix will probably spread out the bars more evenly over the range of useful signal strength. Therefore, where you used to see 4 bars, you'll probably see 3 or 2. So in short, the flawed bar algorithm was making the antenna problem look worse than it really was

#2: There really is an antenna issue, according to Anandtech. Even though the bad display algorithm made it look worse, the fact still remains that there is a problem. The problem only causes dropped calls when you are in a 4 bar or lower area because when you show 4 bars, you could be within 10dBm of getting a signal too weak to use. So Apple will probably announce some kind of antenna remedy, most likely either giving a free bumper or a voucher, or a subsidy for one. That's my guess

You have to lift very high both elbows and keep shrugging your arms to increase the signal strength. Ii works superbly I have cheeked or the second option buy a thick rubber for 40 bucks.

@Reknbal Apple probably set a relatively high price for their bumper in order to avoid competing with 3rd party vendors. You will find it very difficult to find a 3rd party iphone4 case that costs more than $25. In fact, Best Buy has one for $15. So the nice thing about this is that you can solve the antenna problem, save a little money, and also avoid rewarding Apple, all by buying a cheaper 3rd party case.

@Reknbal Well, that could be it. But I really think it's more of an ego issue with Steve Jobs. He is known to be a consummate perfectionist. And when a perfectionist ends up making a mistake, he has a really hard time coming to grips with that. If it were some other CEO at the helm, I think Apple would have offered either a subsidy or a free bumper already. But then, if it were some other CEO, we wouldn't have all these cool products from Apple either.
