to the first trap: That would be hard on multiplayer (Assuming your not on singleplayer and trying to trap yourself or, a chicken.) because you have to mine coal and gather sticks for torchs and then waste your time on digging fucking sand.

wow, I actually learned a LOT from this video. I learned sort of how redstone works, which I had no idea about before. I learned that torches auto break sand. I learned water puts out torches (which seems obvious but I had no idea gamewise, and I learned about sandstone. Great video, I'll be watching the rest from the beginning now. I don't think the quicksand works anymore tho.

you can also use sand and gravel to check how deep water or lava is for better (smarter) mining. this really helped me alot with obsidian mining, try it ^^
