XD pas de deux means 'not of two' (literally, anyway), so im guessing its supposed to be like they dancing as one, moving with eachother, and just generally being beautiful.

...i kind of felt like there was a lack of emotion...

"Pas" means "step" and "not", it just depends in which sense you use it! And I thought both of your interpretations were accurate, just to let you know.

That's true, but lots of them thrive from it too. It's the strict teachers that help you discover the passion, and the joy in working hard to achieve that state of mind, as I've found. Although.. everything in moderation would apply here, I suppose. :).

pas de deux simply means "step of two" translated in ballet as a dance of two; likewise a dance of three would be pas de trois
