  • Love those suspended chords... Mercury Blues

  • j2hakhomeboy... You are a real asshole and people should flame the shit out of you! When you have studied guitar and learned the craft like johnny, then open your mouth. I see Johnny as a great guy who can play a mean guitar. Homeboy, if you wan't visuals over quality go jerk off to a britanny spears video, smoke some tobacco and light a arson fire in your own neighborhood. You have proved that you are a real dumbass to the world on youtube!

  • Boss Man! You own That Stage!

  • I'm a crazy about a Occupy Wall Street!

  • this guy's amazing. Not my style of music, but I love it

  • Wow...

  • Nice Johnny

  • what an all around amazing guy.

  • makes me feel better about having small hands and playing guitar :)

  • Saw him play once in London and no one gets close when it comes to country, Amazing.

  • Johnny needs to start slimming down or he's going to find himself playing the Cardiac Infarction Blues.

We need him too. The current crop of country music pop stars isn't exactly brimming over with guitar talent like the genre once had. I don't think we'll be getting any more Chet Atkins', Danny Gattons, or James Burtons any time soon.

  • @youtubblows Country? Sounds like Blues Rock to me.

  • Such talent.

I wish he could find his own voice instead of just reharshing old SRV licks.

I get goosebumps when I hear the Sammy Hagar stuff he did.

  • @gratslogic I don't find the SRV influence. Maybe because here he's playing a blues-rock tune, but I find him more into Robben Ford or Gary Moore. Anyways, every guitar player picks things from others. You can hear a lot of Allbert King and Hendrix in SRV's playing.

  • Dude is an amazing player, great licks!

  • Porky Pig at 1:32

  • TOP 10 GUITAR HERO !!!!!!!.

Blues, Country, Rock, he can play it all.

  • He's good, but the song is a song that closely resembles Pride and Joy. However, the lead riffs are truly distinctive. Who would have thought we would see a blues guitarist throwing tapping, almost unheard! He pulls this off extremely well and not overdone as most tappers tend get carried away and make faces. Beck adds in tapping, briefly sneaking it in, the next thing you know is that he blown you away.

Lastly, who would have thought a blind man could play as clean as SRV.

    He's get a 5*/5

  • @doc4blues Thanks arm chair critic for your diagnosis. LMFAO

  • BOLA DE GRASA si toca el pinche ancho..

  • Wow. His voice remembers me of Christopher Cross R.I.P.

  • WOW.....this guy is on fire!!!!! GREAT JOB!!!

  • I have a HUGE new repect for country music because of this man. Absolutely brilliant.

  • @person8132 This is blues, much better than country, haha!

  • @vigcs Darn...I thought I was close:D It doesnt matter, this man is an inspiration.

  • Well Hot Damn, you shredding man you shredding.

  • just brilliant !!!!

  • Great player. Nice voice too!!

  • HOLY SHIT!!! Nothing else just HOLY SHIT!!! ...

  • who are the idiots that dislike him. a bunch of morons

  • he aint fat minikingmusic hes just good

  • @j2thakhomeboy He is fat. In fact he is enormously fat. Wait a minute ... he is quite possibly the most gigantic guitarist I have ever seen. I am surprised his fingers even reach the fretboard. I would expect that all the small objects orbiting his gargantuan physique would put the guy off but they don't. I would normally worry about Johnny reading my comments but if he wasn't lacking optically he would need a telescope to see them as he is the human version of Jabba The Hut.

  • my god

  • you are just the greatest. a match for any guitar hero. good on ya johnny.

  • Whoops! Typo in my search. I was looking for the worlds "fastest" guitar player. carry on.

  • my mouth went dry as my jaw was dropped for the entire time. this is my new hero. sublime.

  • I have to take a bow. Simply amazing!

  • Yea... for all the don't know this man is basically legally blind.

  • I enjoyed it from A to Z

  • the tone is sweet as sugar on that rig....he's got some magic in those fingers..!!!

  • Wow. I need a cigarette after watching that.......Epic!!

  • i won't him to come to my cookout gotta love it

  • I JUST CAME ACROSS THIS FELLOW MOMENTS AGO AND I JUST CANNOT BELIEVE WHAT I AM HEARING. YOU KNOW, IT JUST BLOWS ME AWAY, THAT THE OLD ADAGE KEEPS COMING UP: YOU CANNOT JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER, WHO WOULD HAVE EVER THOUGHT BY LOOKING AT THIS FELLOW WALKING DOWN THE SIDE WALK OR STANDING INSIDE A MUSIC STORE, WITH HIS BIG COUNTRY HAT ON, THAT THIS HOT SHOT CAT COULD PICK UP A GUITAR AND ROCK LIKE HE DOES. JUST MIND BLOWING, MIND BLOWING, MIND BLOWING.

  • This guy's a monster player. Love it!

  • Sir, you are amazing. Love the solos.

  • BEAST!!!! Johnny Hiland is one of my favorites, a criminally underrated player.

  • Not bad for a blind man!

  • like it more when he plays Country

  • Nice phrasing man! I dig the rhythmic ideas too

  • Nice phrasing man!

  • waht is he using for an amp? is he using that gtr3 software?

  • is it true he is partially blind?...

  • @johncartelli yes

  • what an awesome gifted musician. i love his music. just rockin' and cookin' like crazy!

  • mercury blues recorded awhile back by Alan Jackson

  • Weird...Every time I look at the guitar, I'm shocked it's not a Tele. Great Tone, JH kills!

  • first time i hear this and c this dud ...and i can say ...he f rock's !

  • This guy is great but if I was that fat and pretended the guitar was twinkie I could play pretty good myself.

  • @abed220 Faggot.

  • name of the song please?

  • the playful never.........

  • Jesus, no matter what he plays, he never loses that feel!

  • Comment removed

  • His voice sounds kinda like Roy Orbison! I've never heard anyone else like that

  • @acuity67 I agree. He sounds a little like Vince Gill. Man, this guy is the total package. Vocal chops, and a MONSTER guitarist. I am humbled by this man. God Bless him!

  • @AbrahamVanHasselhoff His vocals sound a bit like Vince Gill but Vince couldn't light a candle to Johnny's guitar prowess, but let me add that Vince is a very talented guitarist in his own right.

  • Ive known him for a few years........

    Great Guy.

I met him thru my BF JayBuchanan.....another talented guy and great friend to me.

Let it rip JH and JB

  • that's fuckin mojo right here!

  • One heck of a gifted musician!

  • does he play in open g?

  • @ChainsawRaptor Appears to be standard tuning to me.

  • GOD bless you johny, you GOT IT !!!

  • wuts with these FAT players, like Johnny and Popa Chubby, they just play amazing guitar. R they FAT becuz thats all they do 24:7 is play guitar

  • Pretty bloody amazing for a fat blind man, in fact it would be pretty bloody amazing for a slim gent with 20/20 vision.

  • @MiniKingMusic i dont think hes blind is he

  • @Ksimp9

he has Nystagmus. it is a eye disease that causes involuntary eye movement. wiki it for more information

  • @MiniKingMusic he´s not blind... he had nistagmus

  • @NarcolepsiaTech he is legally blind

  • @MrSister127 are you sure he's not illegally blind?......

  • After seeing him play either you go home an practice your ass off, or put your guitar in it's case under your bed and become a shoe maker. There aint no better player alive today, hands down.

  • not only is he a knock your cock off guitarist, he also has a pretty nice voice!

  • go johnny go!!! yeah man he's like hollywood fats's far far distant cuzin :D

  • Good sounding amp when he does the clean part, great player IMO.

  • That ol' boy can flat pick son.

  • I like his playing a lot more than I do SRV's.

  • @1971SuperLead ....so? What's the point?

  • @GahDub SRV is a legend and J.H. is a rather obscure artist still. So there is a bit of irony that J.H. would be so obscure when I find him to be more entertaining than SRV. I would also hope that J.H. would appreciate hearing that SRV fans find his playing to be more favored.

  • @1971SuperLead So...your point is "irony" then? Because I always find these comparison notes strange otherwise. For instance, how do you like JH's style to Billy Gibbons? Or, how 'bout Duane Allman? For that matter, what's your comparison to Tommy Emmanuel? Then there's......Gary Hoey....or......?......Anyhow, MY own point is I find it fruitless to do suggest comparisons. Btw, I think JH is wonderful. He was just playing next door to me last night. Killed 'em!

  • @GahDub Yes, it's ironic and irony is often interesting. Also, JH and SRV have rather similar styles. ZZ Top, Allman bros or Gary Hoey are in another arena. They're far too dissimilar to be ironic. George Thorogood is a far closer match. Plus, I frikkin love Billy and Duane! Stevie....I admire and respect but I don't own any of his CDs for some reason.

  • @1971SuperLead Okay then....I get where you're coming from. However, I think what threw me is how I don't think Johnny sounds all that similar to SRV. JH is more similar to Steve Vai or even Mr. Van Halen.....that is if one can imagine Eddie doing country. I guess it's the "hammering" connection. Stevie has more "bite"...to me. Must've been those super thick strings. Great banter. Thanks man. :)

  • @GahDub Ok, in this video he sounds a lot like SRV, especially in the beginning. But he sure has a lot of other styles too, like his bluegrass or his Opus D' Funk. In those videos it makes no sense to compare him to SRV. Opus D' Funk does make me think of Duane Allman or Vince Gill.

  • maravilloso.... q ejemplo de artista !!!!

  • Somehow some people can't just enjoy the beauty of it without hanging itself on something other then the gift that has been given to them by such a wonderful musician.

We all will do our crossing when the time is right so now worries and enjoy the music.

  • hey when did PRS start making ukeleles ?

  • @fasteddie925 ahaha

  • amazing :-)

  • Dang.

  • This guy rips on guitar!!!!! Just awesome.

  • Saw him last night at Guitar Center he is amazing! and a funny guy too

  • that is a boss solo!

  • he s the best!

  • This guy is the boss.

  • Go Hiland you've got a fan from tiny Malta!

  • Comment removed

  • isnt he blind

  • @strwy2hvn94 yes he's legally blind.

  • that guitar is so small

  • whats the song called

  • Holy hell...

  • Is it just me or he sound abit like Vince G. when he sings? ^^b

  • @xD4F7x yeah he sounds a lot like vince gill, now that you say that

  • Hot damn this man can play.

  • Got a bit of SRV in his tone and style while still being a total original. Awesome.

  • Pretty good voice too!

  • Is that Shawn Lane playing country blues?

  • We saw him play with a band in Nashville several years ago and he was amazing. We stayed all night!

  • I just wish he'd lose a few lbs ..for the simple selfish reason that I'd like to keep this guy around for as long as possible.

  • @biggfingger5 He's not fat, that's just where he stores all the awesome.

  • @Caige you are absolutely correct,I stand corrected!

  • @biggfingger5 amen

  • @biggfingger5 lol

  • @biggfingger5

thats the hand he's been dealt.....

  • @biggfingger5 Uhhhh....think of all the awesome guitar players we have lost. Now...how many of them were big guys????? None. So you might be getting ahead of yourself there. You DIDN'T say that you hoped he 'stayed off planes'...and THAT has killed more guitar players I think than anything. Don't worry about the man's size. Enjoy him while he IS here. I get that you like him I just think the comment re: his weight was unnecessary. I miss Jimi; Stevie, Randy etc and POUNDS did not kill them.

  • @biggfingger5 best comment i've seen in a while, thumbs upped def

  • @biggfingger5 and you could check shawn lane for references..

  • that guy out of Mountain - lesley West- had a gigantic belly, even BIGGER than this guy.

  • PRS.....can do f*n EVERYTHING with excellence!

    of course Johnny owns!

  • Follow his eyes, you'll see he's blind.

  • He is "legally blind", but not totally blind.

  • And I also remember 2 big dudes Randy Bachman and Turner Overdrive, and Christian artist Bob Bennet-twice as rotund as Hiland.

  • Ed King was that rotund for a few years. And what about how plump Malmsteen's fingers have been. Oh, yea, don't forget Charlie Daniels.....fiddle and Les Paul picker!

  • Johnny is a really original Nashville Texas man!

  • Lol...The dude grew up in Maine, and moved to nashville when he was 21..He has nothing to do with the state of Texas..

  • maybe the guy was speaking of Texas style chicken picken style guitar?

  • WOW... Outrageous playing!!!

  • i too thought fat fingers would be issues for guitarists......

this guy is an inspiration for all the stubs out there!

  • I just became aware of J. Hiland from a feature in March issue from The Guitar store .I've always wanted to see a person with fat fingers play because I have fat fingers and struggle terribly to play clean.

From the issue he looks like he has fat fingers but it doesn't look like it in this video.

  • My man rips it! Great video man! @

StraightTwoDVD: Hiland ain't a sell out man. He's keeping it real by doing what he does. He doesn't look like he would be able to sell pop anyway. He ain't no Britney Spears or My Chemical Romance pop-looking fag. He's the real deal and that's why you wont see him on MTV or playing at MSG any time soon. Son has soul that ain't for sale.

  • @DuscaManolescu

From blues and country to rock and metal...Johnny can tear it up in any style.

And he´s for real like u said!!!

  • Any fan of this shall love the "Hellecasters" !!!

  • StraightTwoDVD: "elboob and hiland both couldnt get laid in a whore house with a handful of 100's..."

Ha! What the hell do you care? You lookin' to earn 100 bucks the hard way?

  • Love PRS guitars, but they don't love me.. PRS doesn't support us leftys.. sad.

  • @wes8870 do what hendrix did way back when... change the strings and drill another strap lock on the other end... voila!! if that fails you can always do the dick dale and learn how to play without changing the stings =)

  • One name besides Johnny...Danny Gatton !!!

  • Johnny is the man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Johnny is a monster guitarist he is such a clean player!

    Check out my channel!

  • OMG...I have the sense of sight and I can't play like this MAN !!!!!

  • @seaeire60 actually, having limited sight would help you out on guitar more than having full sight would because it forces you to use your ear more

  • That's what I try to do...but have not gained "Perfect Pitch"..LOL...lil' by lil' I am learnin'

  • @seaeire60 yeah perfect pitch is so damn difficult, there's studies that the people who have perfect pitch are born with it, and that the ones who acquired it by learning it are a bit limited.

  • Seriously, some of you peoples shitty comments shows exactly how much you don't know about real musicians and music. Jonny Hiland is a very sought after musician in many recording studios and that's because he can stand with the best in almost any style and flavor and nail parts that are requested of him in studios.

  • grats on putting those jimmy-dean sausage-fingers to work!

  • that's a good one.

  • @StraightTwoDVD

Randy roads is an amateur, and you must be also if you think hes better than johnny here, im guessing you've been playing for like 6 monthes.

Heres a tip , listen to Vinnie Moore, Greg Howe, and Guthrie Govan.

And when your a little less ignorant check out some nashville stuff like Hiland here.

  • yeah right...

go check out the youtube clip..."chet atkins and mark o'conner"

they blow this fat turd off the map...johnny plays ths same riffs over and over and over...he gets real boring real quick...

sorry..i see you have a mancrush with hiland..enjoy your bromance u two queers

  • How do you even dare comparing the 3? Johnny plays a way different style than Chet Atkins for example.. It's like comparing Eric Clapton to Black Eyed Pease.

  • Go fuck yourself, critic. You watch internet porn and youtube. No one cares to hear your drunken opinions.

  • You epitomize what it means to be an "internet troll." Get a life, little fella.

  • @StraightTwoDVD What exactly is your issue with this guy? You feel better by having to force your opinions down everyone's throats? You spend an awful amount of time coming to this video to spew your thoughts over the place like a pitbull with diarrhea. Just get over it and enjoy the music you like... it's not like your converting anyone by being an obnoxious ass.

  • SRV - Pride & Joy???

  • @cesarzepp now that you mention it, yep!

  • Alan Jackson - Mercury Blues =)

  • uber!

  • whats the first chord he plays?

  • It's an E7#9 with an open E on the bass and and open E on the 1st string.

  • COOL

  • too rich for my blood and I've been playing over 40 years. Johney I bow down before you my brother

  • atomico

  • Yeah ! Johnny can go. He's a vesatile guitar player and very good at it.

  • i like this guy!!!!

  • This guy is incredible, damn!

  • hot damn hes good!

  • mister jhonny hiland =O

  • @thekaserxxx13 When are you due back in the home.?

  • Johnny, you kick ass. We miss you at home!

  • To think that this young man is blind also, shows what you can do..His site shows he is a determined guy. Glad he is...

  • @sitcomsid he isn't completely blind but he has some kind of eyes movement disorder
