Night landing is tricky! I got VERY suprised when I did my first night landing (see my vids ;-) ). Thanksfully my instructor was there otherwise that would have been a nice spine compression landing! LOL
not a bad landing man!!! the stall warning come on just as you touch down....When yuh hear that in 9Y-TES yuh do a good landing....GK and EQ doh land the same though.
Okay, look fellas, I'm not gonna get into any kind of argument here, I'm just calling it as I see it, and you're absolutely right, I don't know any of you or what your experiences are, so you might as well forget I said anything because I will not deal with irrationality. Safe flying everybody!
FYI, I have been a pilot in real life for over 30 years. So nothing you say will impress me.
I know very well, probably far better than you, that flight sims, even in commercial and military sims (I have used both) are not the same as real world. I have real experience and probably far more "room to talk" than you will ever have. So be sure YOU know what you're talking about before you criticize others.
I was probably flying a 172 before you were born, so get over yourself.
Yeah this looked like a fine landing, especially whereas Cessnas weren't made to land at night. The landing profile in them is too low with such a nose-high attitude. Even with great approach and runway lighting, on a really dark and overcast night, it just doesn't sit well. Your best bet would have to be to get your hands on a better set of landing lights, I didn't even see any here.
See, you and I agree that there was nothing wrong with this landing. It's only the internet phony that is trying to criticize something he knows nothing about.
BTW, nice observation about the landing lights, too.
Wow lots of angry people here LOL! I take GoNavy311 at his word, he's a pilot. Some people like to be hard on others-- as we should be hard about ourselves when flying. Be safe :)
500+ landings in 150 hours TT? You take his word on that? Not trusting my own math, I asked three other pilots.
One owns a 172SP, another is a retired Navy pilot, and the third is a currently active corporate pilot that probably has more hours in more types of aircraft than most of us will ever see.
All of them said, in one fashion or another, "No way".
i HATE that expression. That's about the lowest standard a pilot could set for himself or herself. Every landing should be an excellent effort, not just merely one for which one can say "Oh well, at least I can walk away from it! Ho hum, no worries!" We aim for a precise target every time we land, not the damned broad side of a barn.
Perhaps the expression should have been "Difficult" night landing. I think you are too hard on others. Maybe you would like to post some video of YOUR landings? Then we can all criticize your technique. ;)
Who said I'm criticizing this landing? If you READ my post, you'll see that I'm criticizing YOUR comments. I don't need to post a video of my landings to tell you that your philosophy towards airmanship sucks.
Obviously, you are not a pilot. If you were, you would know that the expression is a joke. Sort of whistling in the dark. It dates from the days when flying was an insanely dangerous thing to do and it was literally true that, if you could walk away, it was a good landing. If they could use the airplane a again, it was a great landing. Your knowledge and attitude is what sucks.
You won't post landings because you have never made any. That's obvious to everyone.
Some jokes aren't funny. That's something you can chalk up with your other philosophies. That's fine if historically that expression was useful; obviously it's not anymore.
This childish banter is unnecessary. I'm all about promoting the best practices within aviation; that expression doesn't do that. Neither my knowledge base nor my attitude are lacking, though this interaction has been a bit hostile. I'm interested in keeping things civil.
If you were really interested in keeping things civil, you would not use insults like "your philosophy towards airmanship sucks".
Interestingly, you continue to evade the question, "Where are your landings?" I wonder if that is because you have never been at the controls of any aircraft but are just another internet coward hiding behind his keyboard?
Your attitude has been hostile from the beginning, if you bother to read your own posts.
I don't recall you asking me about where my landings have been. You asked me about videos, a cursory look at my profile will reveal I have no videos uploaded at all. Maybe that'll change tomorrow. If you're curious to know where I've flown, here goes: KRAL, KAJO, KAVX, KRIR, KSKA, KNKX, KSDM, KSAN, KMYF, KREI, KBLH, KPSP, KTRM, KCRQ, KSBD, KCNO, KRIV, KF70, KHMT. I might be leaving out a few. You don't have to believe me. In fact that would help you write even more ridiculous responses.
I repeat, you are a liar. You offer nothing to prove one word you have said. My experience has nothing to do with the fact that you make claims that far more experienced pilots than I, or you will ever be, say they are blatant BS.
Oh and I'm definitely a private pilot, at least that's what my certificate issued by the FAA says. Anyway, I'm going to Catalina tomorrow with my lady. If I can get a digital camera with me I'll shoot some video for you so you can be hard on me.
Yeah how hilarious that I'm a pilot who doesn't have a digital camera. Man, I just can't help myself from laughing. You're really hilarious! I also don't own a jetski, I'm out of bananas at the moment, I need more toothpaste, I don't have a Ferrari, and I haven't yet gone to grad school. So yeah I can afford to fly but I don't yet have those 'other' things. Unlike most other pilots... ? and now I'm dying from laughter.
You said it best, if there's no need for me to upload my landings, why do it?
I think you are a liar and have never flown any aircraft at any time. So you are already trying to weasel out of it.
My replies have not been ridiculous, but your increasingly shrill responses have been. To paraphrase Shakespeare, "Methinks he doth protest too much!"
That was a great landing; Not perfect, but great! Especially for night. There've been some 'hard' landings here on YouTube that were just that: Hard. Give yourself a little credit, will ya?
my hardest was at compton in california. huge off shore wind nearly stalled us 15 feet above the runway. (had to add power to stay up retry the flare) the landing gears can take some abuse. if she can still roll its a good landing.
piarco international airport trinidad the crash landed in runway 28 on the 5th of january 2010

You didn't even bounce! What helps produce consistent flares however is looking at the departure end of the runway and not over the nose..

WOW perfect aproach makes 50% of perfect landing. See my videos. Cessna 172 too.
cheluprimo 5 years ago
Perfect approach... it's hard to judge the distance over the runway at night man.
Yeah you didn't start flaring soon enough.. the ground was coming up too fast cause you didn't walk the power back then pull the nose up high enough.
Not bad though. I live in the states and have my Private Pilot out here... my family are from Trinidad.
