  • Never heard a more spiritual voice in my life. That is proof right there that there HAS to be a God!!

  • Glory to God !!!!!

  • Wow thanks Jesus Glory to Yod

  • @binstence You don't love yourself enough to admit to yourself you may be wrong and that such truths can never be objectively known though. Maybe.

  • this is my fav from the queen of gospel herself..

  • seriouse aretha, Shirley Caesar, etc...... have alot to answer for cause artists like this are very few and far, and tbh, MJ, sang better her than artist today, with no mic, no trickery of tech, pure rawness, learn Aretha etc... before your called the queen. etc... hope u get better also .xx

  • Incredible voice and presence. Mahalia Jackson, gone but not forgotten.

  • @binstence the only tragic thing is your ignorance

  • AMAZING:)) love it!!

  • @binstence i agree with the first part of your comment, but i dont think that insulting Islam will get you anywhere. i am Christian myself, and i believe that one of the most important parts of Christianity is to love everyone, no matter what religion

  • i song this for christmas last and iam going to this year i love this song and iam only 11 years old and every one says i sound like her when i sing this song

  • jericho jericho

  • MAHALIA IS GOSPEL

  • God bless you Mahalia

your voice is prayer coming out of your heart

  • Mahalia is the god of gospel, well to me a white boy from the UK to me she is the universe of Gospel music. shame i never got to saw her, but thank god for youtube and im 25. love you and god rest your soul a true artist at work

  • this lady has a voice that gives me chillis up my spine and she is very talented

  • What note does she hit in 1:55?

  • absolutely nobody can sing like this woman I remember sitting in the living room when I was little with my mom and grandmother and all us kids had to be quiet while we all listened and even has a child this woman had a voice that could make me sit and listen I love her

  • You said it athorpe630 !!!

  • Beautiful spiritual lady and a blessed voice!!

  • And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations;and then shall the end come.matthew:24:14. THANKS JESUS.

  • Fantastic! That´s pure class!

  • she never sings a song the same twice she has always been my fav

  • Wish we had a voice like her's to sing for us today.

  • supreme artist..

  • It'll take a long time before Mahalia is replaced as the supreme gospel singer. No white could possibly overthrow her and even a black lady would have to be eminently ardent, plus have an unsurpassable voice thats perfect for the genre.

  • man its sad to see such wonderful tlaent go home but when he say come its that time rip queen of gospel wow!!

  • this is the reason my great grandmother sang around the house queen Mahalia !

  • Wspaniałe!

  • Einfach nur Geil!!!!

  • Fantastic! I had never heard this before, & this is so great! :-)

  • she's #1 in gospel period!

  • she was just the role model of aretha

  • Now there's a voice that bridges heaven and earth.

  • oh! noone could say better!

  • Such annointed power in her voice!

  • ikedirty318, just to let you know she is dead, she died a very long time ago

  • SHE DIED IN 1972 BABY

  • lmfao

  • lol...

  • died 1972 in chhcago

  • Muito legal! (vem com josué lutar em jericó)

  • Every 50 years or so God gives us a gift like Mahalia.

  • this song to me is the essence of being human, loving, compassionate...

    Mahalia, I love your voice...

  • WHAT A VOICE.

    Sensational Lady.

  • God in her and Mildred Falls too (piano)

  • Sing Mahalia sing...

  • Praise JESUS... Mahalia... the mother of gospel music... shes incredible... she sing directly to god and you can see that!

  • @FranckyLuv Which god there are so many?, the battle wasn't Joshua's it was Jehovah's as it will be at armageddon.

  • Praise da lawd!

  • speak properly.

  • i know you are not serious!

  • I would like to see her "How Great Thou Art" from 1962 on the Bell Telephone Hour. It was televised again in 1976 with others like Liza Minnelli. It was the finest version of the song I've ever heard!

  • Exquisite.

  • Love it!!

  • My God !!! ... Mahalia is even better in color !! ..... please dont ever delete this !!

  • Mahalia, We love you girl!

  • I felt that "Jericho" at :25...My My!! If you listen at 1:26, she threw the pianist off, but you are truely a great accompanist when you can follow the artist and cover up the 'mistakes'...Go'head Mildred Falls!

  • Cuz, I told'em about that Mildred... Her fingers just knew Mahalia ever in and out of Mahalia's voice...lol

  • Outstanding performance! It's amazing...as many recordings as she did of this song, each one is a unique version.

  • even though she has recorded this song many times everytime i see it it's a wonder.

  • oh yeah, and what show is this from?

  • It's a show called Bell Telephone Hour.

  • Cool, velvet...

    What year is this from?

  • Judging by her hair, it's probably in 1961 or 1962....I have some footage of her in 1961 over in Germany, and her hair is the same way.

  • I like that...'judging by the hair'...lol... But it's true though her hairstyles gave away the time period...(smile)

  • LOL!! Cousin, you know she stuck with the same hair for a specific period of time. You could tell when it was the 50's b/c it was those big curls that looked liked waves. Then the late 50's she wore the bun...the early 60's...the up-wave doo...late 60's the hairdo that looked like a fan in the front...etc...LOL!

  • what is this "fan"?

    i really can't believe i'm asking...

  • LOL!!!It's cool. When you've been into someone for a while, you notice certain things. The "fan" is something she wore in the mid-to-late 60's...go to these links I'll post below.

  • oh yeah, doesn't she also sing "summertime" on this episode, or a later one on this same show?

  • Dwayne, are you holding oot on us youtubers with your footage?!?

  • LOL! I'm not really holding out....it's more of the lack of equipment to upload the stuff. Hopefully, I'll have something to do it soon.

  • The best!
