Lava Axe had the best flavor text (until M11 when they changed it).
Even though the new M12 quite catches the feeling I get when getting killed by a random axe :P

That being said, being relatively new to magic (Alara) I have not seen the decline in flavor text, but wow that is a pretty big shift. I think magic needs to tone down on the so-called "funny" flavor text, and actually write flavorful flavor text, go look at RoE's soul warden functional reprint (which bothers me too btw) for an example.

imo m12 is attempting to try and bring magic back into an older style game play. Magic has been about "drop creatures and beat face" for so long. By making the decks so fast with devour and bloodthirst and all that I think the designers are trying to force us to main deck a lot more tricks, chants and wot not. Bringing back to magic a lot of that fancy off turn plays that made it so fun originally. I could be wrong but this is how it looks to me from sealed.
