Owl City - Fireflies [ What does it really mean? ]

This whole thing is wrong. He wrote this song when he was high. When you're high you tend to see lots of colors and flying dots. He was talking about how these "swarming dots" looked like fireflies.

this is wrong sorry. go look at the owl city- EPK with ADAM YOUNG (owl city's singer). he tells about what its really about. its not about UFO's or insomnia or stuff like that its about when he couldnt get to sleep at night he saw the beauty of the country and translated it to song :)

@PuffleLover55 Hehe you could very well be right, but still I can interpret YOUR explanation of HIS explanation as a UFO story/explanation. I cannot say I know anything, but i can say it can be interpreted that way via his what I would call [ vague ] explanation. It also seems the director might have felt similar.. the video has a "UFO touch" if I may say so. Lastly.. IF this is true (and I'm not saying it is - read my description) I'm sure Adam wouldn't want to be labeled the "UFO freak".

This is such a cool thought about it! It makes so much sense. I was recently told by someone close to him that his songs and stories are never true or have specific meaning. They may mean multiple things, they may even mean nothing. The reason he writes them the way he does is because he wants to make people think.
