Dead. lol Just kill them before you kill the tree. Be it by switching target, using spells, or having the fortune of having someone else there who feels like killing them. This is a really easy fight, by the way. I'm sure any melee/mage using daggers for mp drain could kill it. Or just have good earth resist and a few hi pots. Only thing is that stonega IV adds up.
