Nintendo needs to get their act together. We didn't want Metroid: Other M and we don't want Metroid: Other M 2 - we want a new game like Super Metroid or Metroid Fusion!

Though, if you meant that Other M was an adequate substitute for Metroid 5 then I can only say that we have very different taste in games.

Just noticed there's actually a save room right before a boss. Maybe you shouldn't hide it? I didn't expect a hidden passage to be in that room, so I never searched for one until my second playthrough. On my first one I had to run through all the previous rooms to get to the boss, which quickly got frustrating. I think it's generally a good idea not to hide any save rooms (I think Metroid Fusion did that sometimes, but they were easier to find and the game overall had more save rooms, anyways).
Man, just gave the tech demo a try. Really awesome game you made there! The gameplay works fine, the graphics look really awesome (it's the combination of Retro and modern special effects that makes it so great) and the music is great, too. The only thing that's a little bit sad is that most of the classic jingles were replaced, but I guess I can live with that. Oh yeah, also diagonal shooting would be great. Don't know if that's planned or something. Keep up the good work!

@emoboy400 If it's running really slow your computer may not be powerful enough to handle it. The retro graphics were a style choice, not a graphical limitation, so it still uses up the same precessing power as any normal game.

played through the tech demo. It refines the original game and super metroid down to its core and brings it back. It is brilliant. The atmosphere is brilliant, the lack of story is crucial for this. The room design in that they pose small challenges with risks is crucial and a core element. Just this tech demo alone was better than Other M. I'm not just saying that flippantly, either - it actually has areas you can explore, better combat, and memorable music. I beat Other M, and I don't remember a single tune from it, but the theme for the starting area in Minitroid was stuck in my head the first time I heard it.
I look forward to the full release as much as I would a retail Metroid game.

@Chupimaru I just extracted the whole folder to my desktop and ran the exe. I run win 7 32bit and have had no problems. If its not working there are 2 things I suggest.
1.) Tokinsom mentioned there was a problem with one of the earlier versions that caused crashes. So try redownloading the game.
2.) if that does not work make sure you have the latest version of Direct X and make sure your graphics cards drivers are up to date!
There are literally hundreds of Nintendo fangames out there, and to my knowledge not one of them has been shut down. Besides, we're not profiting from this, the actual names (Metroid, Samus, etc.) don't appear once in Minitroid, and we didn't 'steal' a single sprite, sound effect, song, or anything else from any official Metroid games (spare half the title theme). I don't think we'll be hearing from Nintendo any time soon.
Ah, I asked because I recall a while ago about a fangame of Chrono Trigger that was to be in 3D, but SquareEnix shut it down. That's good to know. Thank you and best of luck for the final version.
@Tokinsom Nintendo has sent out cease & desist orders to some games in the past, mainly fanmade Legend of Zelda titles that approached commercial quality and even without directly referencing the source material. Popular IPs like that are protected pretty well, but they couldn't care less about Metroid and F-Zero and the likes however so this'll fly :D

@Tokinsom Hopefully not, but it has happened. My friend had a non-profit Pokemon MMO he was working on shut down (while other more popular ones that charge are still going!). You should be fine though, can't wait.

@Tokinsom Nintendo has sent out cease & desist orders to some games in the past, mainly fanmade Legend of Zelda titles that approached commercial quality and even without directly referencing the source material. Popular IPs like that are protected pretty well, but they couldn't care less about Metroid and F-Zero and the likes however so this'll fly :D

@Tokinsom i remember a really cool metroid fan game introduced some time ago called sr388 but apparently nintendo sent a cease and desist order to them resulting in underground development of the game. Nonetheless this was an entertaining demo you created and I hope development goes further without any roadblocks :)

Nintendo did not shut down MSR388, and that's a fact. It was a rumor. In fact I'm willing to bet that 99.9% of C&Ds for fangames are rumors.

@SilentPhenomed You guys need to realize that the public belief that companies are out to cease and desist lovely little fan projects like these is like actively policing things so that large companies don't even have to move in. You like this game? Send praise for it. Don't bother contemplating the legalities of it just enjoy it since it's here and tell your friends : D

It would really cost Nintendo more money than they'd win if they sued, plus last thing I heard, they encourage this stuff.
Lastly, they've always tried to keep up a "Gentle Godfather" image and they wouldn't want to break that.

@Tokinsom Hopefully not, but it has happened. My friend had a non-profit Pokemon MMO he was working on shut down (while other more popular ones that charge are still going!). You should be fine though, can't wait.
