My cousin and my dad both work/worked for the sheriff's department, and this is a very high-stress situation. Best way to get your stuff back is to call the prosecutor and hint someone important suggested you talk to them because you needed someone with real power. Be sugary sweet. if rebuffed try again in a week. You can also call the evidence room bypassing the police department on purpose. You call the guy in charge of evidence and get him to agree to check on something (like has the evidence been assigned a release date or whatever.) Then call him back the next day etc

All right, just because there are many bad cops out there, doesn't mean they're all bad. Yes, there are hundreds of videos on YouTube of Police Brutality, but there also just as many showing those few good cops doing the right thing. I applaud the author of this video for standing up for his rights AND posting that link really showing that there are good cops. Let's make this simple for the simple minded. When an officer gives an order, just follow it. What a F*CKING concept. There is a system that is used called the "Control Force Continuim." That means, if someone does not follow verbal commands, they're going to go to the next step on the continuim and use physical force. If you resist, your now getting charged with a felony and once again the next step on the continuim is taken. THEY use force until YOU comply.

Also, this did not look like a peaceable assembly and police have a right to protect themselves, just as you have a right to police protection. I huge issue for officer safety is distance. That is, they carry numerous weapons (like guns) that are easily accecable to any one who gets close to them. Best way to get your stuff back is to call the prosecutor and hint someone important suggested you talk to them because you needed someone with real power. Be sugary sweet. if rebuffed try again in a week. You can also call the evidence room bypassing the police department on purpose. You call the guy in charge of evidence and get him to agree to check on something (like has the evidence been assigned a release date or whatever.) Then call him back the next day etc
