  • kocham różną muzykę ale z Wielkim Leonardem nic i nikt nie może się równać....to najwspanialszy głos...to najwspanialsza muzyka dla ucha a ponad wszystko dla duszy :*

  • Dear Leslie I still remember you in the fog of the past .

  • made me cry

  • Damn!!

  • Utterly beautiful:)

  • (Posted by Youtube Stream for iPhone (yst.me) on behalf of ranilavie at twitter)

  • numb struck! like less is more,

  • great!

  • I find it strange that seemingly everyone is afraid of a sad song or book nowadays. To me these are the only things I can relate to life.

  • With those words and this voice, whatever he asks, the girl says yes.

  • I'm absolutely weeping.

  • @BarerMender same here.

  • now that amy winehouse joined that 27 club he should write a song about her blowing him too.

  • @BornSoulSik88 Poor you.

  • We are ugly, but we have the music.

  • poor jesamludkorobinhood!! after ALL that you have beenthrough you have made a man your master! and after that you made a man( a beutifully talented man, ) yet a mere man all the same your SAVIOUR? if Leonard Cohen is all this to you , than is there a god?

  • Comment removed

  • @BornSoulSik88 sometimes god speaks through a man.

  • good old "laughing Lenny"

  • The Spaniards (I am myself one) have translated "giving me head" as "your head between my legs"!! I can't quite believe it!!

  • The Spaniards (I am myself one) have translated "giving me head" as "your head between my legs"!! I can't quite believe it!!

  • He wrote is WITH Janis Joplin not FOR Janis! Maybe they both got head? Come on folks! probably they both got head from different people.

  • @poonamsvideoblogs I think it clearly says FOR Janis Joplin... and in wikipedia " ... , Cohen would tell a story that made it clear that the person he was singing about was Janis Joplin. .."

  • Nice version. thank u so much. :-) and this is Oslo

  • Leonard Cohen, Chelsea Hotel and a blessed rainy morning in Athens....I love it!!!

  • Fucking hell, I didn't know Leonard Cohen could sing this low. B1 is very low.

  • lindo demais, parabens, agradeço pela partilha abraços

  • nice version. thank u :-)

  • Regina what???

    Come on guys....

  • "We are ugly, but we have the music!" That line will eventually drive me insane. I am ugly, but hah! I give a damn! I got the music!

  • a remarkable singer this man!

  • i agree dude what a child he would have been ...... RIP JANIS

  • If Joplin and Cohen had conceived a child together, that baby would have been a god. RIP Janis!

  • but you are beautiful...

  • Fabulous, thanks again Leonard for your music and words.

  • I'm not even going to lie....Regina Spektor's cover of this sing brought me here

    I love this.

  • The most thoughtful and gentle rendition of this song I've heard

  • It makes me sad that the worlds best musicians are from before my time. I would have loved to experience this music in the time that it was born. Leonard Cohen Rocks!!

  • @jakebryant77 Lennie was touring the world for nearly 3 years to December 2010. You had a chance to see him, i hope. Melanie still tours, as some others do.

  • @jakebryant77 Yeah, it's quite sad. Imagine it's '66 and you're listening to Suzanne or Just Like A Woman for the first time... man, I swear there's the ghost of ingenuity blowing through my window...

  • brilliant

  • simply beautiful

  • rest in peace janis joplin you are one of lifes wonderfulst person. with a blink of an eye you changed people and you also changed me.

  • If you love Leonard Cohen, and surrealistic symbolistic lyrics, you’d like my music too. He’s one of my two great musical heroes. I made a song called "A Winter Evening's Tale”. This is also for all of us folks facing 2011. Do check it out in my channel or check it out in the video response of this awesome video. The song references Pilgrim's Progress, bible, Alice in the wonderland, Revelations, crusades etc. It also depicts eerie classical paintings. Have a folky new year!

  • Madre mía, ...puede haber algo más bonito!

  • For Janis Joplin

  • patsxskip nintendonut100 haven't you got any ears?

  • SUPER

  • when he does the line "givin' me head on the unmade bed" the spanish translation means literally: your head went between my legs" such a tragic song.

  • i went through the hell in my life. i was a soldier in a terrible, long war and just when i thought that i survived, i got cancer. i'm fine now. but even in my worst times the old leonard was the one who was always there for me. in his music he always knew how to create some magic spaces for my small retreats. he truly is my master, saviour and saint. i saw him in hannover. when i saw him on the stage i was so deeply moved... i even didn't try to hide my tears. sorry for bothering you;)

  • @jesamludkorobinhood There's no such thing as "bothering" when you tell that kind of story. That's the power of music. Good music.

  • @JohnnyDamon18 You seem to be young but you also seem to be wise. That's a best combination a human can be blessed with. Stay the way you are and do never loose your empathy. And stick to a good music.

  • @jesamludkorobinhood I'm so glad you found a way to have faith, through his music, after all you've been through! Sometimes we have to go through Hell to get to Heaven, (figuratively speaking).

  • @jesamludkorobinhood I hope, you are fine. Life is really hard.

  • @jesamludkorobinhood That's an amazing story because you say it so beautifully.

  • @jesamludkorobinhood you are a stronger man! god bless you!

  • @jesamludkorobinhood

Respect man, I am sure you see life with different eyes any since and somehow, although you'll carry scares from this life, you are invincible till you'll step your feet on this earth (hope many years to come :)) ...

  • @antoilbello i used to think i had the world on my shoulders 'til i realised it was stuck to my feet

  • @jesamludkorobinhood Prekrasno rečeno :)

  • @jesamludkorobinhood Leonard Cohen is my master, too. I lived during that crazy war and thought I would neve, everr be able to listen to him again.

  • does anyone know if this performance is available on dvd?

  • great. love the song.

  • this song... right on schedule.

  • I Love Cohen

    A Timeless Legend

  • Loving L. Cohen...there is still some nice thing in my mind...you are great Cohen...Nobody cant be like you...

  • i like the paul baribeau version better

  • @urokr No one sings Leonard Cohen like Leonard Cohen.

  • oh.. it WAS janis!

  • "I can't keep track of each fallen robin." Beautiful. Some of the best lyrics of all time in this song. There is the redolence of Homer and Petrarch in his voice.

  • "Tu cabeza entre mis piernas en la cama dehecha?" ¿Esa es la traducción de "Giving me head"?.....

  • There is just something about him. His voice seems to vibrate in my heart. I know that sounds weird but someone else has to feel it too right?

  • respect for the old lion!

  • There a handful of geniuses whose talent for imagery and language make them great singers in spite of themselves.

    Cohen. Dylan. Waits. Cave. McGowan.

They impress our minds for the clarity of their statements -- word which create beauty of depth no sweet voice could ever croon.

  • @dasmegabyte To be honest, I think that there are different types of songwriters - the bad ones, the good ones, the true greats, and then there is that league above, occupied by Dylan and Cohen; they are untouchable.

PS: you may want to add Paul Simon to your list

  • @17Hongo but Paul has a nice voice.

  • thank god i learned english else would ve missed this gem in this life

  • this song is soooo funny

    i love it

  • Some people don't understand what singing is. Some people don't understand what beauty is. Leonard cohens fans are luckier than those people.

  • He whispers in my ear.

  • such charisma, such dedication - Cohen fills his lyrics and performances with heartfelt emotion - he is the best of the best

  • There are two songwriters I would consider the best poets in history. Guess who!

  • @NeonlightRebel Tom Waits and Moondog???

    :-)

  • @Malaka57 Your comment was an epiphany for me! ;-) I thought, Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen were the best songwriters but... I should really change my mind! :-)

  • @NeonlightRebel I like all of them.... and Jacques Brel, as well, and the Austrian Ludwig Hirsch.... amazing what some of these guys come up with!

  • Jacques Brel and Leonard Cohen

  • unique...

  • I agree. He cannot sing. His voice is too low. But nobody can sing this like Leonarrd. Nobody goes so deep. Nobody has this poetry.

  • @TheFlimflim Doesn't mean 'he cannot sing'. He's singing right now. He just doesn't sing in a typically methodized manner other than from his own heart. :]

Some of the "worst" singers are the best singers, because of that aspect.

  • An artist and a poet in the true sense of the word.

  • oh wow, how beautiful

  • esta cancion la escribio despues de haber tenido algo con janis joplin en el hotel chelsea.. que afortunado.

  • you told me once again you preferred handsome men, but for me you'd make an exception

  • what a beautiful song.... 2 lonely people find each other....i love the part "we are ugly but we have the music" so true

  • i've been to the chelsea hotel

  • @halloha22 me too. nancy haunts the lobby

  • its easy to listen to good music

  • epic

  • ni siquiera piensa el mucho en ella, pero la ha dedicado toda una cancion maravillosa...

  • @1tulipan1 que linda, no?

  • Now I love this song more than ever.

  • he sings about... and i guess he isnt lieing ^^

  • Janis Joplin gave him head?

  • Comment removed

  • @tubegirl25 on an unmade bed apparently

  • @tubegirl25 yup. ...

  • so powerfully beautiful... as are all his songs. I hang onto every word... every time.

  • what a voice, scary yet soothing.

  • to janis joplin

  • "you were talking so brave and so sweet,

giving me head on the unmade bed,"¨

    cool =)

  • he has such a beautiful voice... it calms me down so much...

  • simply lovely

  • oooooh, so beautiful :)

  • Cant Beat It..

    Cohen at 2am..

Just you the darkness and Cohen..

    No better Combo..

  • damn, he's the man

  • Somos feos pero tenemos la musica -

We are ugly but we have the music

    Pure Rebellion

  • This is the best live version ever

  • His voice is HIS voice.........plain & simple......Someone asked him why there is such a drastic change in his voice form 10 years ago even?......Leonards answer "10,MILLION CIGARETTES"!

  • Remember ...

Andy Warhol ,Lou reed,David Bowiie,Miick Jagger and of course Janis all had a room at the Chelsea Hotel ...

Oh ... Salvidor Dali was there also !!!

  • Hotel Chelsea

Dylan Thomas. Sid Viscous. I 'lived' there in 83. ultra violet was still there. harry the horse. turk. peter and kim.

    a cross section of society.

you could ride up the elevator with sir peter maxwell davies and ride down with sid. before he croaked.

  • All the greatest artist cant really sing in the textbook way, but its their own style and emotions that makes them that perfect.

  • TRUE! Very true!

  • a lot of song writers don't have amazing voices, but his writing is fabulous and he knows how he feels it should sound. Plus you can see the feelings he felt during the performance

  • he might not sing like you want him to sing....but please remember he wrote the songs....he can sing them how he wants to sing them

  • ¿Dónde está la mamada?

  • there's something amazing about leonard. he can't really sing, and yet nobody but him can sing his songs right. there are plenty of covers for his songs, most of them by much better singers then cohen. yet none of them does the song justice... only leonard can really sing those songs.

  • what do you mean he doesnt know to sing

he is great in writing and also as a singer

great singer doesnt need a good voice

  • that's a backhanded compliment if I ever heard one

  • @Petiber Thats because they're his songs. he's lived the very words he sings.

  • @Petiber He can´t sing??? Excuse me but he has high baritone voice that can go into lower registers. According to this he´s in the same team as David Bowie, Nat King Cole, Neil Diamond, Nick Cave and others.

  • @Petiber He can´t sing??? Excuse me but he has high baritone voice that can go into lower registers. According to this he´s in the same team as David Bowie, Nat King Cole, Neil Diamond, Nick Cave and others.

He choose to sing like this but he can do higher notes for sure.

  • @Petiber I have heard the Rufus Wainwright version compared to this - it doesn't. it can't get close - the grief and longing in Cohen's voice - the very performance is spellbinding, the lyrics heart wrenching. this is true brilliance, entangled with raw, unbridled emotion - not beautiful, but haunting, hypnotic and completely immortal.

  • @mikper7

yeah, sure it was terrible, now please go away

  • @Petiber

you´re absolut right ! im not religious or something like that....

but by LC i have a "feeling" that i guess...thats a kind of magic....

that brought him for his "work" to earth....supernatural..

  • @Petiber I feel the same about Leonard Cohen as I do Kris Kristofferson. I've heard "good singers" record their songs, and I always like the original better. Guys like this feel the words they are singing, and that's what makes a songwriter great.

  • @Petiber even though he can't really sing his voice and emotion make up for it.

  • @Petiber Not all together true even Cohen said that Buckley version of Hallelujah was the best.

  • @JHAC67 Incorrect my friend; "After hearing k.d. Lang perform that song at the Canadian Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2006 we looked at each other and said, 'well, I think we can lay that song to rest now! It's really been done to its ultimate blissful state of perfection'.

  • i love this song thank you four this version

  • Super !!!

  • thanx for making janis personal....i remember that hotel

  • I reckon BETTER has two [t]'s you dumb fuck!

LC for life bitch, we do it HARDCORE
