@danielat998 I bought 1304 direct from LUL, I had contacted them asking if I could buy 1304 some time before. Extremely helpful in every way, gave me access to where they were stored and where they were being scrapped so I was able to get bits to do restoration.
Yes, quite a few have been preserved. I bought driving car 1304 and had her in my garden for a few years and did some restoration before selling her on. I find the video wonderfully nostalgic, obviously made 1998 or 9 as you can see the new trains.
1304 is I believe alive and well, let`s hope she runs again one day.
@mikekellyvouharte , i managed to salvage the cab contents and guards panal from 1962 tube stock units DM'S 1678/1679 ,built them back as near as possible to original condition into a cab simulator, after aquiring the bits and pieces from LUL where the cars were down at the M.O.D in shoeburyness essex .
I think 1999 was the very last year these old soldiers ran as I was visiting London back then and they are better than the piles of 1992 and 1995 lumps. Did any of these old soldiers make it to preservation? I really hope so as these are my favourites.
@metadyneman Im a new yorka and i may not know much bout dem tube trains but they are built just like are ol' redbirds, like tanks! in fact they still usem except only for work service but still nice to see um so i feel ya and by da way these are my favorite tube trains. Also NY also had the oldest rapid transit cars in da world nun da less North America. From 1909 to 1969. 50 years of service, but after many rebuilds. ANYWHO I know what ya feel! Sorry for history lesson didn't mean to do it!:)
Just to let you know the Redbirds were built with thinner steel compared to the cars retired in the 1980s, which is why they started rusting by the early 2000s. As a matter of fact someone who works for the MTA told me that one of the work cars he helped scrapped had not one bit of rust on it and it was already 50+ years old. These 1959 Stock cars are cool especially in that silver colored paint scheme.
notice the lack of hustle alarm, and the fact the doors would never quite close in sync due to the amount of times they were held open by the punters!!!
These trains are very classic and very nice. I like all those old technical equipment.

I grew up with these trains, having lived near Old Street when I was younger. The Tube has never quite been the same since they went.

Some impressive arcing at 1:07. At 2:16, it sounds like it is shaking itself to pieces!
