@z1rakz1gal Blixa never did heroin, nobody in neubauten did. but the sad thing is, if you want to see blixa and nick perform together now, you'll need a tardis...
@XXmello42 blixa will have you for that! and anyway the only thing they have together nowadays- is history! sad though it is. (i would have said they have had heroin in common but that far too boring)
@z1rakz1gal somewhere in an interview with Blixa I read, that they never took heroin (I mean members of Neubauten), they were usually either wasted or on MDMA and similar shit, Nick Cave took heroin
@Albacorewing yeah u gotta ask the question..it was the 60's so ya cant say 'get on my dick' or some similar idiocy, but im a stranger in your pants might be more accurate. certainly shines new light on 'some velvet morning when im str8- im gonna open up yr gate' i think we both know to which 'gate' he refers.
I always thought "Some Velvet Morning" was someone relating a story from the past. It is not as sexual as "Sand."
"Sand" tells the old story of the nomadic man meeting a woman in a settled community. The sexual connotations are very strong, but "land" is what he means at first. He uses the accent of the Old West. He refers to "your fire" which means he came in from outside.
@thetimelesswonders The song also appeared on the LP, "Nancy and Lee ( the cover of which appears above in the posted video) ", only the stereo channel separation was switched! I used to own both of the recordings. The records were sold at a yard sale years ago, but I had always wanted to have better copies of Nancy and Lee's music... I now own seven different Nancy Sinatra CDs in my collection!
These two were the greatest in the late '60s, just back from Nam, 'Summer Wine', Sand, 'SomeVelvetMorning' are the best. Establishing a life direction after the war had ripped dreams from me. 4-24-11.
I can't believe how many people know (and love) the EN cover. This is the song that introduced me to EN back in the 80s, and I've loved them ever since. I was happy to finally get around to first hearing the original track about 11 years ago. Its been a great song for a very long time.
Marily Manson are a pathetic cover of Einsturzende Neubauten. I doubt Lee and Nancy were quite Blixa's cup'o tea, either. I have to laugh at the thought of him discoving this song.
Just listened to the Einsturzende Neubauten version. Definitely not my cup-o-tea. I thought I was listening to a cover by Marilyn Manson. Just my opinion though.
This music was hokey, almost smarmy, back then as it is today. Still, I felt (and still feel) a very strong attraction to it. "Elusive Butterfly" and "Wichita Lineman" were also among those dreamy Snooze-Button Classics. Catch one final dream before reality hits.
I think this was the earliest use of a reversed guitar where the player actually wrote a lick, reversed it, studied those sounds, played them, and then reversed the result. Everybody else seemed to simply be playing around with it.
In 1968 I had a '66 Pontiac GTO Convertible and was in the Army. I would put the top down, turn up my 8 Track Tape Deck with the Reverb on, and play Nancy and Lee as I drove through Mineral Wells, Texas. Truely underappreciated album.
When I was around 10 or 11 (Centuries ago) I was given an LP of these two. I just ADORED it. I played it until it could play no longer. What I wouldn't give to have that LP today!! Thank you so much for posting this!!
This song reminds of "White Bird" by "It's a Beautiful Day". It's somewhat psyche, and has catchy simplicity with similar musical instruments. The baritone vs. soprano voices accents the similarity, and I find both songs desirable.
Nope, you're wrong. EN made it into some kind of growly krautrock dirge without regard for the feeling between a man and woman. Nancy and Lee made this song a tension-filled ballad.
i'm discovering this song about 20 years after i first got stunned by einstuerzende neubauten's cover, i didn't even know NS an LH composed it originally... it sounds beautiful
@JohnnyFox86 Yes it is great!. In fact Im embarrassed to admit it , but this the Eintstruzende Neubauten version was the only one I have heard until my girlfriend said it was a cover. We saw a local documentary later of Lee Hazelwood, has it made it where you live?(We live in Austin TX)
I don't listen to country music (sorry) but the many cross-over hits and gems of Sinatra And Hazlewood shows what a great vocal duo they were. Were they an item?
Actually, the motherfucker (feetlover18)you were responding to is Belgian (you know, home of NATO Headquarters? haha), NOT American. But,
