  • Second greatest band in the world when this was recorded in '85. My favourite REM song.

  • fables of the reconstruction days. i was 15 then first heard this ong

  • These are all great, but the audio and video aren't in sync.

  • @superbeavo

this may be a glitch in Youtube and not the original recording etc. I've seen hundreds of Youtube vids that have a full one-second gap between the audio and video.

  • Hats off to whoever posted this delicious old entry.

  • This is great, the sound and video are very good considering it was 20+ years ago. Thank you so much for sharing.

  • love the boxcar hobo look!!

  • "At the end of the day, when there are no friends

When there are no lovers, who are you going to call for help

What do you have to change

A familiar face a foreign place I forget your name

I'd like it here if I could leave and see you from a long way away..."

I really love this one, so much.-

  • "When you greet a stranger... What do you have to say... Truly, my favorite Rem' song..."

  • thats true!

(I ve clicked in "finger down" by mistake :S)

  • My favorite REM song. Cool to see it live. It's rarely played live.

  • really great song...

  • really nice live sound.. simple clean..

classic... cool for the dude who taped this

    good FORSIGHT

  • one of my favourite REM songs... compares with: seven chinese brothers camera welcome to the occupation disturbance at the heron house i remember california losing my religion half a world away daysleeper... (the dreamy songs...)
  • "Keep your money in your shoes..."

  • such strong lyrics. love that they can still apply more than 20 years later. sweet stuff.

  • beautiful! i used to think no one but me liked this lol or at least not too many ppl no one ever knew this track wen i talked about r.e.m. kills me though that buck never plays it the way i think it is oh well back to the guitar hehe!!!!!

  • A great song, and the trees make a nice backdrop.

  • Two of my most favorite bands(R.E.M. & The Connels) together in one concert in Raleigh!! Too bad i didn't move here until 1996!

  • Correction. I saw them after the release of 'Document'. But I was on campus for a summer session when they did this Meredith gig. Can't believe I didn't hear about it!

  • Can't believe I just found this !!! I was a sophomore at Duke when this concert was filmed. I'd seen them at Cameron Indoor Stadium on campus the year before. 10,000 Maniacs opened. And Michael still had those beautiful curly locks.

I've always loved this rarely-heard gem of a song...a sweet, lighthearted little valentine to the South. I ADORE 'Fables of the Reconstruction', but it's really overlooked. Probably a good thing.

Thank you so much for posting! Brings back a flood of memories.

  • Yes!

  • well hell. i was at this show... i was 19.

  • You're lucky... I'm 21 and i wish i'd been around back then to them when they were at their best. Good Advices is my favourite R.E.M. song

  • 27 May 1985 - Merideth College Amphitheater, Raleigh, NC

    Yep.

  • you can tell it's 1985 from Stipe's hair. lol

  • Pete Buck was my god back then.

I saw him kick a punk in the ass and off the stage in Miami in 1986. Finally met him at the 40 watt club when his then wife Barrie owned it.
