to say that what ski is doing is not real dj'ing unless you can do it with turntables is to not understand ableton. there are things you can do with ableton live onstage that you simply can't do with a traditional dj setup.

Dude it's not meant to be a replacement for turntables, but it works as a live performance tool. Traditional DJ's can use it to create instant remixes on the fly. U have to learn Ableton first before u can use the APC40. Many clubs today have Serato or Traktor Pro and the turntables or CDJ are there and you'll see the DJ with his Laptop. Just because u can't scratch with Ableton it's not considered DJing tool? Dude no one wants to carry records anymore, thats in the past.

Ant, check out my post to ski to see the point I was tryna make. I don't know if you spin, but remember when serato came out and all the DJ's frowned upon it? It made the job too easy for the newcomers. Point being is, IMO cats should learn the basics(how to count BPM's, marking records etc) before using these tools to make DJing easier And DJing aint all about scratching(unless you're a scratch DJ) And yes I use serato...and I love it. BUT I paid my dues and can rock a party w/ or w/o serato

I agree cats should learn the basics, but it takes time to learn these programs in order to produce a good mix. Sure vinyl purist hate it but guess what its here to stay. U got old early era hip hop dj's like Flash and Jazzy Jay going digital that says a lot. Just make music and have fun that's my point. Props go out Skibeatz keep rocking that APC40.

@Antonio229 not to mention, you CAN digitally scratch with ableton. assign a white noise channel and use the crossfader with a frequency shift knob (or whatever effect you prefer).

hmmm. ableton beat matches and autowarps most audio files that you load into it. You might have to re warp a few parts of songs, but ableton does most of it for you....
