  • Hi...I'm having the left side of my thyroid removed in a couple of weeks due to a tumor. Can you tell me if your surgery changed your voice and if so for how long?

    Thanks

  • hey, just watched your video, put a smile on my face, im heading into my second surgery tomorrow.....a bit nervous but im sure ill be fine. its good to see some else come through what im about to go into!

    thanks,

  • i have my 1st, and hopefully my only, surgery in 2 days. im scared as hell. im only 16, and thyroid cancer runs in my family. i cant take pills. will that interfere with any medications i need to take after?

  • They told me thyroid cancer is not genetic (i had papillary thyroid cancer , but now I'm post operation, pre 131 - that wierd inbetween time).

  • well, my great grandma, great aunt, grandma (all from the same side) and my other grandma had "problems or cancer in their thyroid. my tests came out negative, but now im unselfconscious about my scar. i needed to have the surgery even if it wasnt cancer. it was swollen and wouldnt go down, so they just too it out, and my thyroid levels are fine.

  • I love your videos and they have given me such hope and inspiration! thankyou!!!!

...playing the waiting game at the moment, hopefully the one surgery will have dealt with everything :)

Keep up the good spirits!!!! :D XOX

  • I went through this 4 years ago when i was pregnant. scary as hell. I'm so sorry you had to have TWO surgeries! hope you are well now and doing great.

  • hello ,how are you doing now?

  • Hi ooshkey.... Yes you look Fab. I am glad to see you are doing so well. Hang in there with the Iodine treatment. Make sure they take your TG. You will be over the rough stuff soon. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. If you have any questions the people at THYCA are amazing.

  • You look great, good luck on your iodine therapy. I sent you a message regarding my 20 year old daughter who is about to go through the same thing as you. We are getting a couple more opinions just to make sure of where we stand. You are not alone and it's good to know. Get back to me when you feel up to it. Take care!

  • My wife and I are about to start our journey, this thursday we are going to meet with the surgeon who will be performing the surgery...they recommended complete remo

  • Hey congrats on coming out of the surgery alright. I've had two surgeries and two radiation treatments for mine and I'm thyroid and thyroid cancer free (as far as I know).

The surgery was probably the "best" part of losing your thyroid because the radiation treatment's going to be rough. I did the diet thing and with the diet restriction, it was a nightmare :)

Bring plenty of candies with you for your stay in the hospital and make sure you order the TV service in your room, trust me ;)

  • I had a bunch of food prepared and unfortunately the RAI made me a little sick to my stomach which apparently is not common but I thought it might be helpful for you to know as no one said that to me and I wasn't prepared. You'll have some alone time the first few days while you're "radioactive" :) ...

  • ...My scan revealed more than I hoped for but as long as you feel good about your docs and are asking your questions (ask as many as you need) you're good.

I'm headed for another surgery since mine is a little more complex than yours is thankfully. But the low-iodine cookbook is good and looking at ingredients used also gives you some ideas of how to alter your favorite foods too to prepare...

  • Hello, I came across your video when I was looking at videos on neck dissections for thyroid cancer (weird that they are on here). It's cool that you've put these videos up and you've got a great attitude which is going to be the best thing you can have on your side. I just went through almost the same thing you did except only one surgery so far (total thyroidectomy) and RAI trt (not the most fun but too bad). (cont...)
