  • I think I understand his Xhosa better than I do his English.

  • I try doing the click 4:20, and I just spit out saliva on my monitor

  • I can't even see the click on his mouth!

  • you should explain the difference between q qh and gqh, and nasal clicks if you have those too.

  • Fuck the pussy in which spewed

  • I feel like he stalled for the first 3 minutes on purpose... andithi i clicked coz i wanted to hear the tongue twister? so y was the tongue twister only 10 seconds of 5 minutes?

  • What's with you people and the teeth fetishes?

  • @Ultranothing What's with YOU people and your dumb questions? Oh, and by "YOU" people, I'm not referring to your race; I'm referring to stupid people.....YOU people.

  • @soboboo You don't believe that's a legitimate question? Odontophilia as a strange fetish? Do you actually believe that I am stupid for the insinuation that an unhealthy attraction to others' teeth is...well...unhealthy?

  • @Ultranothing No, I don't believe it is a legitimate question. Who are YOU to judge someone and label their so-called "fetish" as being "unhealthy"???? I'm sure you have quirks of your own, and I'm sure you wouldn't be appreciative of being labeled as having an unhealthy fetish.

  • @soboboo Yeah, "so-called" fetish. That's like calling Bill Clinton a "so-called" adulterer, or Barack Obama an "alleged" Marxist.

Hey, so you've got a thing for teeth! You don't have to get all defensive! I happen to believe that it's strange. That is all.

  • @Ultranothing - There you go again putting your foot in your mouth. It's not a matter of being defensive. If somebody takes an interest in something, that doesn't mean they have a "fetish". Personally I couldn't care less if his teeth were white, yellow or green. But why is it that people like you feel the need to label others? Is it that it somehow makes you feel superior? What horrible tragedy happened in your childhood that you feel the need to slap a label on other people? Grow up.

  • @soboboo Foot in my mouth. That must be doubly exciting to you. Got a thing for feet, too? Just kidding. I joke. All in good sport, my man/woman/tooth fairy.

Okay...can we end this conversation? It's...over now? Let's let it go?

  • Took me quite a while to get that click sound right. Xhosa is a quite interesting language.

  • I hope that more indigenous African languages will be elevated in education and media in the future. English is important in today's global village, but it shouldn't inhibit other culture's flourishing. As a Dutch speaker I have communicated with quite a share of Afrikaans speakers and I always notice that the true way to the heart of a people is in their native language. Definitely would learn Xhosa if I lived in Port Elizabeth nearby.

  • @ProductofWit And I would succeed no matter how hard the language is. I like complex languages (not sure how hard Xhosa is grammatically).

  • I'm south african

  • It blows my mind at how common it is in Africa for people to speak two or even three languages. When your first language is English, there isn't that kind of push to learn others in many cases because you can already communicate with a large part of the world. But Africa is so linguistically fascinating! Thank you for the video!

  • This language is amazing yet confusing but i guess its worth learning for an african safari :) so you can have a nice confersation with the natives

  • OMFG hey everyone its T-Pain lol XD haha

  • Thanks for posting these videos! Very helpful! :)

  • i can do the tongue twister, im ndebele from zimbabwe and its very similar to xhosa

  • Very fascinating language. Beautiful skin & teeth.

  • Click more motherfucker!

  • 3:10 to skip to the tongue twister

  • ur sooo hot O.o ever want 2 sleep with a small white boy?

  • this is so...fascinating to me :)

  • I've currently lost my voice with a sore throat, but I will do my best and post a video response soon :)

  • 15 people can't say it.

  • fascinating language

  • wow, nice video!! Interesting language!

most certainly will not be able to reproduce that tongue twister though, haha :D!

  • @clownishwargod1 Is that really necessary? If you don't like another race either keep it to yourself or produce a valid reason (which isn't happening any time soon), also, the fact that you posted a one word, insulting comment just proves to the rest of the world that you're a fucking moron. Knowing people like you, you'll probably reply by calling me a 'nigger' too, I'd like to tell you now that I'm white.

  • @HWAskiBRAVO wat you talkin about cracker

  • @clownishwargod1 The immature comment you left before of course...

  • What is occuring, everybody?

that is my new greeting :D

  • HOW DO U MAKE THAT CLICKING SOUND

  • @mitalkditingsdem

there's 3 different click sounds in Xhosa. you should watch his other videos.

  • @mitalkditingsdem if you ever imitate a horse's clip clop- it's the same as that :)

  • You are an amazing human being to reach out and share your culture, language, and history. We need more people like you around.

  • You are fantastic! Thanks for the lessons!

  • EISHHHH

    ITS DIFFICULT, YOU

    DO IT WITH SUCH EASE!!

TEACH ME HOW TO SPEAK XHOSA

  • Xhosa is a beautiful language. I just read that click languages may be the original language that humans speak, all other descending from the mother African language. As humans migrated to the far ends of the earth, they added and changed it to suit their needs. As cultures mixed, languages changed. We are all brothers and sister from Africa!

  • What's occurring is what we say in Wales

  • I love you! Beautiful African brotha.

  • The tounge-twister is at 3:05

Its a shame the quality of the microphone isn't that good. Otherwise this would be a great video.

  • "what is occuring" nah that isn't stupid at all. I like it a lot, makes me really want to know whats about to happen!

  • "What is occuring?" is definitely my new greeting to everyone.

    Great video, man.

  • HAHA involuntary click at 1:01

  • just jump to 3:10 to hear the tongue twister

  • This is really neat. Thanks for posting this. You're a great ambassador!

  • How do u do that click without spitting?? lol i can't do it without spit coming out!! :(

  • I can get the click! Just don't get what he's sayin.

  • Does it mean, ishhhh die cockroach in my kop het nou van die prop afgeval, gou gou druk jou vinger in jou neus en sit hom terug op die prop.

  • first of all that was hot.lol.second his smile is qorgeous

  • I like your sense of humor! I say things like that.. "What is occurring everybody?"

  • I'd love to respond to this, if only I could actually make the clicking sound! My tongue is dumb and doesn't want to work properly. Xhosa's awesome. Thanks for making these videos! =) Just one question, though: how many people in the world speak Xhosa?

  • you should prolly do a video on how you get your hair like that lol. Great video, great way to bring some different culture to the world.

  • I wanna listen you speaking japanese lol

btw interesting click sound in the language, I'm fascinated by languages lol

  • This is oober cool.I'm a white South African living in England and I miss having the African culture around. This brings me a little bit of home.I can't quite get the click and I definitely wouldn't be able to do it with someone in front of me cause I tend to spray spit!!hahaha..but I'll keep trying and if I get it right I'll post a video!Big ups for the cool videos.x

  • STRONG TONGUE

  • so brave

  • you have nice hair

  • This is so cool!

I don´t think I could ever master this! Amazing stuff :)

    Respect here! +1

  • To an english speaking person everything in xhosa is a tongue twister!

  • yeah is there any hot xhosa guy outthere who could teach me some ....x0x

  • Xhosa is the African language that I would most like to learn.

  • Jolly man and language too :)

  • forget the tongue twister, i can't even get the click right!!!

  • yeah... nice teeth!

  • Dam i wish my father would of stayed around so he can actually teach me this cus this has to be the most hardest language in the world to learn....

  • damn i want your hair

  • eyebrowz

  • holy crap your teeth are amazing!

  • @TheBikefish Not Lual -.-

  • @TheBikefish fruck you and no they dont ash hole

  • @Verseification ahaha I thought I was the only person who was mesmerized

  • Wow your teeth are perfect.

  • @crazyfreakypunk People always say that about black people. The contrast between their skin color and their teeth makes their teeth look whiter than they really are. That's why a black person was voted to have the "best smile" in my yearbook like every year even though we only had a few black people in my town. Just sayin'.

  • @yurismir1 He's teeth does look white, but I'm really talking about how straight they are

  • @crazyfreakypunk ofcourse they are, he's black!

  • I tried but it is very hard to do. Since English is considered the offical language...is that the only language that is spoken in the schools? Or are other languages also learned in school or would you only speak xhosa at home?

  • There are eleven official languages and English and Xhosa are two of those. It depends on which school you attend - every school has a different language policy. You also get German schools and French schools even though those languages aren't official.

  • rubber baby buggy bumper....

  • I will be using that. What is occurring, man! Hope you don't mind me borrowing that. Stay Peacable

  • When you speak... Xhosa? It sounds as if you're trying not to laugh. Very cute.

  • thats sexy.. will you marry me? lol jkjk

  • I love your hair, and you seem really nice too :) and Smart! Keep up the good work man! :)

  • What is occurring?

  • does your life suck or what

    (to vuhaoonguyen)

  • u have awsum teeth man

  • idiot he is not kwerekwere...

  • 3:11 is when the tongue-twister starts. What a VERY VERY interesting language!!! I would love to immerse myself in the culture some day. Some day........

  • Hahaha thanks dude !! Loved it,I adore african languages ! Thanks x

  • You are one great guy, charming and obviously highly intelligent, smart and a real citizen of the world! More power to you -- have a terrific life! And thanks so much for your video including the click lesson!!

  • man.. that is THE sickest hair

  • Whilst watching your video I sat clicking like crazy, curling my tongue and clicking furiously! What fun. Now I need to remember the words whilst clicking simultaneously.

  • shut da fuck up hes trying 2 teach us somethin if u kno da language y did u click da vid

  • thank you

  • thula wena

  • I really enjoyed watching your video! You have such a relaxed way with the camera....It wasn't like watching a video at all...It was more like talking to a friend....You anticipated questions that may be asked in advance...Great job...I'm going to practice your xhosa tongue twister now....Wonderfully done my beautiful friend!!!

  • how to you spell the clicks?

  • Q, C, and X. Q is the "hard" click where the tongue flicks away from the palate in the centre of the mouth. C is the "soft" click where the tongue flicks away from behind the very front of the palate, just behind the front teeth. X is similar to C but is done in the side of the mouth rather than in front.

  • that completely answered my question o_o

    thanks xD

  • click click click click click i did it :)

    its funny :)

  • I'm glad I saw this video. I would have gotten to SA and asked everyone "What is occuring?"

  • It sounds spanish but also when you write the language it looks german so thats so awsome

  • it looks nothing like german. at all. not even a little bit.

  • "Qaqambile likuqale nini iqhakuva emqaleni?". Does that look anything like German to you?

You're thinking of Afrikaans, most likely.

  • oh..i see. thanks

  • OK so let me have a say at this. If I keep to European languages, one might say it looks remotely like Albanian...

But if I go beyond European territory, I'd say it looks like Hindi (in Latin latters) or Pakistani.

  • i'm gonna learn it and post a video response soon. so far, all i know in xhosa is "iqaqa lazi qikaqika eqikeni lazi laqhawuka uqoqoqo". but i spent a few weeks in kenya and picked up a good-sized vocabulary of kiswahili, kikuyu, and dholuo (acholi). now i'm learning clicks!

  • Thank you so much for sharing the culture! You seem very happy!

  • i lived in south africa for five year in soweto and man i loved it the its great and i never could learn khosa or zulu ist too dificalt emm ok that was is and respond please

  • nice smile

  • It is amazing that you can smile through any language!

  • I would like to be able to to it... it's impressive

  • hi khaya, i can't do it right yet, but i'm working on it!

  • That's absolutely fascinating.

  • I was a little too distracted by your sexiness to actually learn ;) Daaamnnnn

  • One mouth, one tongue, one mind.. and mine won't make that sound lol

  • molo

  • Kanti ungumXhosa!!! ah ye ye. sharpu ke.

  • the beat and the chorus...at the saaaaaammmmmeeee timmmmmmeeeeee!

  • *GASP* That is EXACTLY what I was thinking!!!

  • really :D that's cool. i would let check myself when u think the same way i do :D

  • Kewl language. I'm more partial to Tswana tho. What sounds more beautiful than "O jwang"?

  • Alright, well I know this challenge is almost a year and a half old now, so the novelty may have worn off, but if I can manage to record it I'll have a little surprise video response to this.

I wanted to say thanks for posting; I'm really glad there are people sharing how to speak isiXhosa on YouTube, makes it a lot easier for us foreigners to give it a go!

  • Hey Khaya mfondini I posted my response a few mos. ago but for some reason youtube won't let me link it as a response to yours....

  • Okay, it's been like an hour and I believe I have mastered the Q. Thank you so much, Khaya (Khaya?) for the little lesson at the end!!!!!

  • Oh my gosh, I totally freaking just did the Q sound!!!!! I just did it!!! Twice!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited. I can't take it. I'm gonna try the sentence. But I can't record it cause I don't know how. Anyway, COOOOOL, Khayav!!

  • Xhosa is my favorite language! i kan say 3 words in xhosa :)

  • Wow the Qaqambile one is brilliant. Keep up the good work mfana. Mna ndingumXhosa nozwane. Everyone should really agree that you talk that language and talk others you are brilliant!!

  • You know we can't do that shit. lol

  • so what happens if u dont make a click when u should ? can u still understand or is it completly off

try giving and example of what it would be like in english

  • That can either change the meaning of the word or it might not even be a word. What that would do is completely change the letter. For instance, if I said (this is a random example) "ball" but accidently said "wall", the change in the letter "b" would completely change the meaning of the sentence

  • You're just too cute to be true :)

  • My college is now offering Xhosa in the spring term and I'm taking it. I can't wait!

  • rilly..are you in england that is brill, wish could take lessons myself to improve mine

  • no, pittsburgh. but they might offer it somewhere in the UK

  • why take it if u already know it?

  • Because I'm not fluent

  • what college are you attending?

  • University of Pittsburgh

  • omg I wanna learn xhosa so bad but they dont have lessons in nyc

  • i tryed but i did not succeed

  • thank you

  • can you help me, what is 'i am pregnant' in xhosa, maybe it dont have such a nice click but i want to know because it's a hobby of me to say that in as much languages as i can get it

    thanks

  • Ndikhulelwe. That means I'mpregnant. Or you could say, "Ndimithi" or "Ndinzima"

  • I tried it and I think I can pronounce it now.

Is it true that Xhosa has 15 click consonants? (source: Wikipedia)

  • I have tried unsuccessfully do to this. : )

    However... siyakuthanda...

  • baxabene oxamu bexabene ngenxoxo. Bexakwe yini kubaxaka ?

  • Confusion.

  • LOL

  • Why did you want to know?

  • I have always loved that song for some reason. Its fascinating to me when people are fascinated by our languages and i love what you are doing with this.. makes me proud to be a Nguni ..... INdlovukazi has Spoken =D

  • Bayete amaNguni!!

  • Mtase khaya, did all of that mean "confusion"? And I think that line is supposed to be "Baxabana oGxam bexabana nge nxoxo, bexagwe yini......", meaning Gxam and them had a dispute following a confusion. Correct me if I am wrong mfo wethu.

  • Is that the line from Malaika ?

  • Yes you are right Mfethu I know I spelt it wrong .. the original verion was done by Miriam Makeba in the 60s or 70s You are not wrong in your description of the meaning and i believe Ugxam ( I think )is a type of frog that makes a lot of noise and off course if frogs were to indulge in an argument the noise will be much hence there would be much confusion ..

  • WOW Khaya responded to one of my videos! Hahaha shame you didn't make a new one for me ;) Still, that's life. Ndiyabuleeeela, thanks etc etc etc. I seem to remember doing this tongue-twister in one of my videos a while back for you.

    All the best mate.

  • You did respond :-)

  • Eita unjani? i never heard about Qaqambile, its sounds cool man...My name is Lubabalo

  • I cant do the clicking!!! Its soo hard but really cool

  • I love your language

  • That is real cool. I love that language and I am trying to learn the click from your video and "the click song" by Miriam Makeba.

You have a rich culture. I admire the way you learn by watching the others attentively and less by these many questions Whites put up to learn. Your manner is much more sensitive and respectful..and that is what I have 4 this :-)

  • shis ibisto mfana i know bana isixhosa that im writin isnacks la way ukubone but im tryin!keep that shit comin tho im gonn challenge u.usaubona peto.

  • I see your point...my first language is Portuguese but most people who can afford , take up a course on English ..I loved this video and you´re 5 starred and faved! And I will send a video response of your challenge!Maybe tonite!:)

  • I speak Portuguese too! But this is an awesome language, if i every had the opportunity to learn it, I would.

  • I wouldnt have known that english was a second language to you if you hadnt said it. You must be totally fluent =)

  • How so, magic9man2have you seen my other vids, then?

  • no, just judging by what you wrote =(. Usually people will make some mistakes in writing their second language, but you didnt. I will check out your videos though now that you mention it.

  • Thanks,magic9man2.:o)

  • I don't understand how your making the k/q sound at the back of you throat while simultaneously clicking at the front of your mouth. When you make a k sound you must expel air from your throat but when making the click you use your mouth as a vacuum to flick the tongue. Are you just faster with your tongue? and Do all the q's and k's symbolize a click, and if so are they different tonal ranges or is it all the same click?
