I absolutely love this song. In the late 1960's, this was one of the first songs I learned how to play on organ because my parents had a Mancini songbook with this in it. It was only a couple of years ago that I first heard the original and it is a very lush and beautiful arrangement. I believe this song has an alternate title called "A Slow Hot Wind," at least that's what I remember from the sheet music. Thank you for posting this.

Actually, I believe a Lujon is a rather large, square-shaped percussion instrument that hails from Central Africa. The "head" of the Lujon is skin from some animal (a wilderbeast, I think) that is stretched over the top and tapped lightly with a mallet- the Lujon is hollow as there is an opening at the bottom that acts as an echo chamber.

The Lujon being played is that congo-sounding "sound" you hear at the very beginning of this song.
