The first meaning is spread out. The other meaning comes from the root word Dhuyyah meaning egg-shaped (specifically the egg of an ostrich). Translations of the Quran are the word of men (they are translatory explanations to be more exact). The Holy Quran (ARABIC TEXT ONLY) is the word of God!

Also, a very important point...The theory of a round or spheroid earth had been around for 300 years before Muhammad was born, but even in the 7th century it hadn't been completely excepted by all people. Eggs are prolate spheroids, the exact opposite of oblate. We shouldn't have to cut slack for an all-knowing, all powerful deity like you would for a little kid. first, although view from 2D, the earth has the same base geometrical figure (ellipse) as an egg, it's not egg-shaped due to their difference in their roundness factor. That of an ostrich egg is about 0.8, and the non-circularity is visible, that of our planet is about 0.996 but it look perfectly round from space from naked eye, (its bulge can be detected by satellites, though).
So the "egg-shaped" interpretation of the verse is scientifically inaccurate.
Moreover, it's pretty curious the verb "daha" began to have the meaning of something egg-shaped after geodesists and astronomers discovered Earth isn't a perfect sphere.

They're pulled or stretched at the equators. Hence, the Earth is roughly compared to an ostrich egg to disprove that it's a perfect sphere or flat.

That's a naked eye observation. The sun becomes less intense later in the day because it passes through more atmosphere, which could also happen on a flat Earth with a canopy heaven "raised" above it (Q 79:28). The shift from light to dark is very quick when the horizon covers the Sun.

Pulsars? The relevant verse deals with something called Al Tariq in Arabic; its root TRQ refers to the notion of hitting and knocking; which leads people like you to think the Quran alludes to pulsars.
Actually, Al Tariq in this verse may mean something/someone that comes at night, because doors are closed at that time, and you have to knock to get the permission to enter. So a star coming at night.

The first meaning is spread out. The other meaning comes from the root word Dhuyyah meaning egg-shaped (specifically the egg of an ostrich). Translations of the Quran are the word of men (they are translatory explanations to be more exact). The Holy Quran (ARABIC TEXT ONLY) is the word of God!

Also, a very important point...The theory of a round or spheroid earth had been around for 300 years before Muhammad was born, but even in the 7th century it hadn't been completely excepted by all people. In my opinion that is why the Quran mentions both a flat earth and egg shaped. (though there is much debate about the Arabic meaning.) i tried the wolfram website but it says that there is nothing on oblate or prolate when i typed it into the search bar.. maybe i did something wrong or something but when i typed "oblate vs prolate" on google images the oblate was a prolate just on its side. look at the second row third picture it shows a sphere an oblate sphere and a prolate sphere. now type in 3d prolate in google look at the second page, third picture on the first row its a prolate sphere on its side, hover ur mouse over it

first, although view from 2D, the earth has the same base geometrical figure (ellipse) as an egg, it's not egg-shaped due to their difference in their roundness factor. That of an ostrich egg is about 0.8, and the non-circularity is visible, that of our planet is about 0.996 but it look perfectly round from space from naked eye, (its bulge can be detected by satellites, though).
So the "egg-shaped" interpretation of the verse is scientifically inaccurate.

The verse 79:29 says that about day and night, too, followed by the statement that God spread the Earth, or made it egg-shaped. Eggs aren't spheres, even ostrich eggs. They're pulled or stretched at the equators. Hence, the Earth is roughly compared to an ostrich egg to disprove that it's a perfect sphere or flat.

That's a naked eye observation. The sun becomes less intense later in the day because it passes through more atmosphere, which could also happen on a flat Earth with a canopy heaven "raised" above it (Q 79:28). The shift from light to dark is very quick when the horizon covers the Sun.

Pulsars? The relevant verse deals with something called Al Tariq in Arabic; its root TRQ refers to the notion of hitting and knocking; which leads people like you to think the Quran alludes to pulsars.
Actually, Al Tariq in this verse may mean something/someone that comes at night, because doors are closed at that time, and you have to knock to get the permission to enter. So a star coming at night.
The use of figurative meaning has always been done to understand verses 86:1-3.

and the polar radius of earth=6356.78 km.
So, the equation of the elliptical earth is
(x/6378.14)^2+(y/6356.78)^2=1)
Now lets test if the earth is perfectly round. The radius of earth is the average of polar and equatorial radius and its value is 6367.46 km. The equation is
x^2+y^2=6367.46^2

The diameter of the Earth at the equator (7,926.41 miles) is only 26.58 miles greater than its diameter through the poles (7,899.83 miles). That's only a one third of one percent difference (26.58 / 7,899.83). That's rounder than a billiard ball.

The Earth's is only slightly oblate. The diameter from the North Pole to the South Pole is 12,714 km. The equatorial diameter (the longest diameter) is 12,756 km. This is not a big difference. In fact when viewed from any place in space the earth looks like a sphere and in fact it's only the rotation that causes the nearly imperceptible oblation. Nothing like an ostrich egg. Unless you think a tootsie roll is a sphere or a 9 year old should suffer the smelly wrinkled lust of a satanic murderer.

I Just want to know what you people think about the following person: Eratosthenes.
He was the first person who measured the circumference of the erath aka its more or less round shape. And he lived long before the Quran was written. I meen there has been incredibly brilliant people before the Quran was written that made many discoveries that later in one way or another is mimicked in the quran as "scientific miracles".
