By chance, are you at cordova shooting center for this vid? I grew up around there and recognize the railroad ties all over the range...I've got an M1A scout- Love em! cool vid.
I'm not a big shooter but I'm interested in a zombie gun for self protection. I'm considering this, but the ergonomics appear to be less friendly than a nicely set up AR-15/M-4 type rifle. Plus the magazine capacity makes it a no-brainer for zombies.
Its personal opinion as far as your ergonomic concern. I personally went with an M1A National Match over the AR mainly because the pistol grip felt unnatural. My old man loves his colt AR though. I was looking at a SOCOM II as well, but go check out a National Match and the rifle will make your mind up for you.
as avail18 pointed out too, the M1A is a .308 platform, which provides much more power, bark and recoil (though the Springfield Gas System takes care of alot of the kick) than a .222 platform (like the AR). My National Match is about as factory-accurate with bare iron sights as you can get. Zombies need not fuck around.
ok zombies are scary but to all you people who get into these deep conversations onto how your way to kill a zombie is not as good as my way...I hate to break it to you but zombies arn't real
glad i'm not the only one the prepares for zombies. In addition to my firearms i also have a nice recking bar for up close and personal combat with the undead.
swords work better for decapitations and every one knows thats the best way to kill a zombie. its funny because i do kung fu and everyone assumes i dont like guns too lmao.
Actually, that's wrong. You have to destroy the brain for a zombie to "die". If you decapitate, you just leave behind a living zombie head which is still dangerous. The recking bar is for bashing thru da skull and wiping out the undead brain.
@TheeGrandmaster There has never been a zombie? Obviously you have never worked in a gov't office and seen the staff before coffee break :P Its straight out of teh Living Dead I tell you.
Figured as much. I don't know if it's the mags that I have for my mini or what but they're are truly a pain in the ass to seat. Do you have issues seating your mags or is it pretty painless?
I have a Mini-14 as well and I actually think the M1A is a little easier. There is definitely less play in seating the mags with the M1A. Hope this helps you in your decision. FWIW, I really love my SOCOM II.
Question for the poster: Does the M1A have that annoying little pin that you have to get in the hole of the mage when seating the mag? My mini 14 has it, that would be the only thing preventing me from purchasing an M1A.
I'm not 100% sure what you are asking me, but if you are referring to the mag having to be "rocked in" because of a hole in the front of the mag, yes.
It does depend greatly on how you use them. I was in the Army twice, and learned how to correctly use ghost rings fairly well. Hitting targets with USGI M855 rounds on a USGI M16A2 isn't a problem, I was hitting them most of the time. I personally don't like any of the other sights, ghost rings are what I'm good with.
I'm not all that much of a shooter, but the sights worked OK for me, out to 80-100 yards or so. I now have an EOTech on it, and that makes it a lot easier. My Mosin is a good shooter too, but I would a lot rather have the SOCOM when TSHTF.

Take a couple/few of those sandbags out from under the forearm of that weapon and put them under the stock (by your shoulder).

Both of you are talking out your asses. There has never been a zombie, so we can't know.
For all we know, you might have to shine a lazer up it's ass.

I want one when i'm older :). What do you think the best scopes would be for this gun?
GerbilUSA2nd 4 years ago
It is a 16" barrel gun so I went with an EOTech for the optic.

Don't forget to buy a web sling sling!

I was so disappointed with the iron sights on the M1A.
My 50 year old Mosin Nagant M44 was more accurate.
$1700 not worth it, in my opinion.
I paid $107 for the Nagant and was more satisfied with that rifle.
How well did you do in this video?
manatarms79 4 years ago
The iron sights did not bother me too much out to 50 yards, I have an EOTech on the gun now though. I love it!

Trained Shooters can use ghost rings out to 500 yards, like most US. Marines...
