  • hey Gilksy i followed your method to the "T" and now my lights are now coming on to me PS3 what do i do??? What Happened? Please Help

  • @italianstud2014 are NOT*

  • My brother and I are putting my Ps3 back together as i type this. Hopefully it wors for a good while.

  • @07SUBLIMEDAYTONA Did it work?

  • My refurbished Ps3 didn't have the heat sync pads @1:08, guess Sony doesn't think they're necessary ...should I go buy some before reassembling? Where can I get it, radio shack?

  • GRACIAS POR ESTE ARTICULO, GRACIAS A TI, HE CONSEGUIDO ARREGLAR LA LUZ AMARILLA Y DE ESA MANERA AHORRARME LO QUE PEDIAN EN ALGUNA TIENDA DE BARCELONA.

  • Worked on the 1st. attempt, interesting to see how long it will last :D

    good video!

  • @ottoev does it still work

  • @MrMike554

Yeah it is still working :D

My friends lasted about 1 month

  • @ottoev I am in the midst of repairing my PS3 via this method. Any update on yours a month ago? How long did it last?

  • @deyessorc7

    Mine lasted almost 2 months

  • All these questions about hairdryers. And just a few about the thermal compound, but no answers to them... Is the thermal compound supposed to dry up before reassembling the unit or not:)?

  • @SuperFashionWorld thermal compound should dry if it stays in its gel like form unless it get overheated

  • @AndrewRyanable *shouldnt

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH MAN THIS WORKED!!!

  • UPDATE: Did the reflow on my 60g ps3 with this method and it only lasted me a month and got the light again. this time seems like the rlod. im trying another method i found using flux to clean and rebond the solder by the 2 chips and see how long that lasts.

  • Man thanks so much... I didn't do the heat gun thing, but I replaced the thermal compound just as you did and my ps3 is working again...

  • Is that 350 degrees Fahrenheit, Celsius, or centigrade?

  • @snesguru celsius.

  • can i do it w/ a hair dryer

  • @iiTzzCR33D no thats not hot enough

  • Thanks man you are awesome! Followed this tutorial and got my ps3 after 4 years working again! I am using artic silver 5 and hope it prevents this from happening again. Thanks again.

  • @gueturbo

I have the same problem im going to do this today.

and i am also gonna buy arctic silver 5 but please if it happens again.

could you post it on this video or pm me through youtube THX.

im just curious if this will work for a month, 3 months or forever if we are lucky.

hope u will do it thx again.

  • 0:16 I have two of those that broke. Any idea where I can buy them? And what they are called?

  • Can I use a blow dryer instead of a heat gun?

  • What are the supplies needed for all this?

    1. Heat gun

2.? The liquid used for wiping?

3.? The stuff applied on the squares?

  • @0wnuquik Isopropyl alcohol; Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound

  • Its work man. Thank you!!!

  • Hey dude, I love you!!!

I just turned it on without the fucking yellow light. Lets see for how long it will help.

    Thanks

  • what was the alcohol used to clean off the compound called?

  • You are Epic. Thank you so much.

  • Hey thanks it worked..... for like 30 secs!! -.- you have any idea what it could have been ?

  • you are my hero <3 <3

  • Great videos! It's really usefull for newbes like me. Wind up the PS3 is a hell for me and all these details you give are priceless.

    Thank you! :)

  • @schnicklefrittz

i had the same problem i think it´s caused by the cooling plate not perfectly attached

you should take the cooling unit and the fan out again and try to push the cooling plates down a bit more... hope that´ll help

  • @gilksy1 why does my fan run noticeably louder then normal now? especially when im playing a game and its even in its third gear while its idle on the xmb. is the heat sink alot more sensitive now?

  • wow thats a big heatsink

  • IT WORKED !!! AWESOME !!!

  • shit....did eberything well...until i found out some bits of the motherboard melted o smth!!wat do i do now?

  • Wow! Ur a life saver man. I just did my 40 gig using Wagner HT 1000 from the Home Depot. Although one of the IC was bulged during the reflow cuz of the high setting on the heat gun, my PS3 still managed to work! Again thanks.

  • 260,000 people skipped part 3

  • heres a question

if there is a fan inside the ps3 then how the bloody hell can it get so damn hot that it overheats

as if thats the case then maybe the fan aint doing it's job properly

i've always been bugged on that one

  • is this gonna fix the red flashing light of the ps3 40gb fat ?

  • do u have to heat it up?:)

  • ياااااخي لحسة مخ :|~

  • what equipment do you use to remove the compound?

  • @xHDGzx You can get a compound remover at home depot right next to the wire stretcher. Just ask an associate there and they will show you.

  • i had mine since it came out and still doesnt have yellow light and i play every single day

  • my ps3 didn't come with heat sinc pads?? do i need them still?

  • what does the compound exactly do?

  • @sodeone heat resistant , extra protection against the heat sinks. basicaly cheap alternative for sony instead of making better air flow.

  • @headshotmatty1 It's not a cheap alternative. Every single heatsink and fan in the world has thermal compound for better heat dissipation.

  • rf

  • so i just need to open it,wipe those things clean, heat them up,then stick that suff on it and re-assemble .__.

my only problem is not having one of those heat gun things >.>

  • @HeavenlyClassic Tomorrow, I'm going Blow Dryer.

  • if i remove the HDD and put it in another ps3, will i have all my save data etc or do i have to get the system running again to make an external backup?

  • Could anyone tell me the use of the little squares on the motherboard there are five of them I lost one : /

  • why do we have to put that thermale paste on it ? why dont they already put it on in every fokin ps3 they make? becuz they want us to come back so we can pay again , i pay them with my fuckin fist!

  • @Shaolin211

It was put on , that's why you have to use the isopropanol to clean it off.

I assume that the thermal paste doesn't work properly or something.

It's not to bad the only thing you should actually do is put thermal paste on not to much of a job.

  • why the FUCK is Breastfeeding at age 8 a RELATED VIDEO?!

  • @sHuzifyy lol i no right

  • @sHuzifyy best guess: both are british. But, yeah, what the heck have the REST of the individuals watching this video been watching?

  • @sHuzifyy That is an insanely good question....

  • @sHuzifyy oh but you know why

  • @sHuzifyy maybe they looked up after they fixed ps3 "how to breastfeed while playing ps3"

  • is there anyway i can see which screw goes where

  • is this a permanent fix?

  • In the beginning he says that if you don't have those you're gonna have a lot of problems what is it that hes talking about?

  • is a temporary fix or totaly fixed it ? tnx for replay

  • Just got the dreaded YLOD tonight... Much respect to anyone that can do this kind of fix!! I'm gonna have to get a new PS3. Great video though! Very well explained!!

  • one of my heatsink pads ripped in half

  • whats the name of that white stuff

  • @paradoiemaina thank u

  • @paradoiemaina hahahhaahhaaa

  • @MatthewArmstrong52 thermal paste

  • Cheers Mother Fucker!!

  • Tried this 3 times now and no luck. The strange thing I noticed though when I opened up the uni the 2nd and 3rd time there was some Thermal paste on one of the heat sink plates on the fan and hardly any on the other, Could this be the reason for it now working and or possibly any explanations as to why?

  • followed all the steps and this worked great for me. only thing is I've had to do it 3 times again. not a permenant fix, but cheaper than sony

  • i followed all the steps to the t and reconnected everything but my ps3 now does not turn on. does anyone know why this is and how to fix it?

  • ive been up allnight doing this and it didnt work...why?

  • how long did it worked normally?

i need to know if its worth it

  • Brother many thanks, done it and worked. I was going to send it to Sony but I got it fixed for under £10. God bless!

  • do you do call outs in england?

  • the easier way is to do this /watch?v=xHMW7XR59Fw no offense but this is way to dangerous to mechanic noobs like me

  • @somebloody671 all that does is melt some of the components, long enough to allow them to reconnect for a brief moment. it's not even a half-fix. it's like putting some water on an open wound = it's not going to do shit.

  • Gilksy you leg end. Took me two goes at it as I didnt have my HAKO turned up hot enough or maybe I didnt have enough airfow but I upped the dose second time and hey presto, hours of gameplay beckons me

  • Dude thanks so much for this tutorial work like a charm! I can't express how appreciative I am for this tutorial. 50 thums up!

  • and i think i fucked it up i touched one of the chips of the ps3 with the heat gun

  • 3:50 REPLY MAN PLZ! what are yu usingg?

  • @xanikarasl2rc it is isopropyl alcohol, or rubbing alcohol

  • you're amazing

  • thanks alot bro i couldnt have fixed my ps3 with out u...again thanks 1,000,000,000

  • hey man when you plug the fan in at 5:30 ...im stuck at that stage because theres no where to plug the power in...followed each stage, did something break off or what?

  • i shoulda got a ps3 instead of an ipad cause i found $2000 on the groung:( fuck me!!

  • hi gilksy any chance you could fix mine for me ? many thanks sean

  • hi gilksy any chance i could drop mine off to you and you fix it for me i live in bath somerset took it to a bloke twice now it only lasted a coople of weeks though ?

  • waaay too complicated fuck u sony

  • Comment removed

  • Hi, i attempted to fix it and when it came to test it, there were no power, no light. I know i probably killed my PS3 but im just wandering if someone know the possible problem. I follewed step by step the videos but some problems came :

1- I waited 12h before putting the thermal compound

2- I lost 2 screws (the smallest) that connected the hard drive connector to a thing. (2:51 of part 4)

Thanks gilksy1 for the videos, and I hope someone got something to help me.

  • @guidubmim plug the battery cable back in 3:23

  • Your better off setting ur heat gun to 550'c as it's lead free solder and it takes more to reflow compared to the good old lead solder. also, cover the rest of the board in tin foil when doing this as the capacitors are only rated to 200'c.

  • Someone even suggested to set the heat gun at 750 D with success??!! is this the case or is this circuit mayhem overload?

  • Have done this now on two PS3s and both are now working - thanks for giving me the confidence to give it a try!!

  • Where is Part3 :'(

  • what happens if i am missing the little pads????? because when i opened it they were missing....and what can i use to replace them????

  • Just tried this myselfand nothing happened, the first time a some dude did it for me had it working for 2 months. Now black ops is stuck in the dvd player and i can not get it out. trying it one more time right now 12:05pm sunday afternoon Feb 27. if i can't get it is there a safe way of taking apart the blu ray with out destroying it to get my disc out so i can atleast sale the blu ray player and other parts?

  • if u splice the brown wire and the grey wire for the fan and touch em togather it overrides the governor on the fan kicking it in to overdrive i just tape the wires togather and it keeps ur ps3 at least 80% cooler

  • what is the liquid you put onto the gpu?

  • Applying heat essentially restarts the heat syncs

  • I got YLOD on mine last night :(

I did try putting new paste on ( I dont have a heatgun ) and it still didn't work, I've now Ordered a PS3 slim from Studio, pity your guide didn't help but I'm probably certain that if I'd had a heatgun I would have had some success with mine.

All my progress on GT5 is gone :(

  • @gizmo198128 You really should have used a heatgun, but it sounds like you're not familiar with electronics?

You can remove the hard drive and put it in your computer/laptop and copy the files.

  • @TheGamingUpdated I've got electronics experience as I build PC's and used to strip down PS2 Fatty's and PSX ( the original not the redesigned PSone )

I'm considering the "oven" trick though, I don't have large enough media on the PC to copy the files ( assuming windows can see the files within the PS3 Partition )

Is there any software you use in particular to copy files from one media ( PS3 formatted HDD ) to another hard drive in windows?

  • Awesome demo on the ps3 how to fix the YLOD! I would like to say you did pretty good job on it and it was very professional! You seem to know what your doing and that makes people happy because now you teach them on how to fix the YLOD on the ps3! Awesome job Gilksy!!!!! A+++

  • How does throwing 350 degrees of heat on the circit board actually fix it?

    Plz reply :)

  • @MyRandom12345 melts the solder so that when it freezes again it should freeze in place

  • luckly I had 2 days left on an extended warranty, but im sure i will have to fix again thanxs so much for posting this video. Gilksy you are awsome for takin the time to show us poor people how to keep from shelling out more money to sony

  • Hey man and thanks a lot for a really good walk through on how to solve the YLOD problem. It seemed to work on my 40 GB model from 2008:) Now i´m just hoping it will work until i can affort a new slim model. Thanks again Gilksy1.

  • do you leave the paste to dry

  • if i sent u my ps3, along with a cheque or any other method of payment, would you be willing to fix my YLOD ps3?

  • Comment removed

  • Just wondering, can a fan be used to cool off components after heating them? I need to play get my game going, and become very impatient lol . Many many thanks for this video btw. You are the second coming of Jesus.

  • Is this the 40gb???

  • does petrol work?

  • IT WORKED!!!!!!

Thank you so much, what a savior, as soon as I put it back together I plugged it in and started it up. Immediately got my Black Ops disc back and the system is working just fine. Seriously people, watch this all the way through before you start then just pause as you go along. Follow the instructions and the YLOD will be a thing of the past. Many thank yous gilksy.

  • followed everything you did and it worked!! thanks

  • @gilksy1 Do I really need a blow-dier which runs @ 350°C or can I also use a normal one?

  • Buddy why did you remove video no 3 half way through me fixing mine?

  • @Mohandus81

i didnt its still there check out my channel for full selection of videos

  • @gilksy1 bro what if u dont have a heat gun?can my friend use a blowdrier?

  • @BIN420LADEN Most likely not, a blow dryer does not reach a high enough temperature to effectively melt the solder on the board. A blow dryer won't do you any good....try and borrow or purchase a heat gun. I picked up a heat gun off of ebay for about 20 bucks, a lot of hardware stores carry them!

  • thanks gilksy1 - took the ps3 in bits took a while to get hold of a heatgun but console now back up and running........not sure for how long though :)

  • hey gilksy thank you so much for this video,i fix my ps3 with your ps3,but it happen agin ,after 3 or 4 week i get the ylod ! im already fix my ps3 3time ,do you have a way to use ps3 after fixing ylod ..like dont use a ps3 more than 1hour ,or ..... ? and one more thing first time i get the ylod when the ps3 is on ,but secend and 3rd time i get the ylod after i turn off my ps3 in the night and next morning when i turn it on it give me a ylod !! any idia ? thanks (sorry for my poor english)

  • ps3 ylod fix

  • can u give me a link to were to find the pdf?

  • My Name is RGuandique, I did step by step, and Fix the PS3...(Arctic Silver 5, Wipes, Heat Gun...) REady....

This method works, thank you very much...

  • Help?! Okay so I did this, it worked and gave back my disk, yeah awesome.... but only like 10 mins later when i put in another disk, it came back?!!?! And by it I mean that horrid yellow light, whats wrong?? did i do something wrong when i was "fixing" it?! Please comment, im really clueless on whats happening here!

  • @sierraKENZIEstyle thers never a guarantee that it not comes back... you have to do it again and again...

  • Ive done this for the second time. Worked great but I've damage something in the process.

My wireless no longer works - this includes my router, controllers and my bluetooth remote. Any idea what I've done? Also the power button doesn't respond (I have to eject in order to turn the PS3 on).

  • @Vistrix It is very likely that you did not connect the ribbon properly. Check all connections It may be other connectors. It is very easy to overlook these things.

  • i dont get it by heating the bord 350 how dose this fix the pa3 ylod

  • @ballhawk210 when you have a YLOD, it means a solder has melted, and cracked. and this melts the solder and puts it drys back together

  • man thanks for da vid...i was a lil scared to do it myself but i went head and tried and come to find out it was really simple....and ylod is gone and im back to shooting ppl on cod black ops. already had a heat gun so it cost me all of $10.15 to fix and that was the price of the artic silver thermal compound.

  • bought my heat gun from harbur feright for 40 bucks it has multiple settings that are perfect, bought artic 5 thermal paste and the no clean lead free flux pen 15$ from radio shack, going to try this tomorrow..u dont say how long to let the paste sit for ,do u wait until it hardens or put back together while its still wet, thinking of buying the reflow/reball kit off of ebay for 2500 and start doing repairs and buying broken ps3 and x boxs to repair for main job to do full time, thanks for vid

  • @JokeEmperor fat (80gb)

  • how do i know which screws are which

  • 19 people didn't lesson to instructions. :/

  • PLEASE HELP, I FOLLOWED ALL STEPS AND MY PS3 WONT POWER ONE (NOT EVEN A LIGHT). WHAT DID I POSSIBLY DO WRONG AND WHAT SHOULD I DO? PLEASE HELP.

  • your not going to be near bournemouth anytime soon , lol

I have my board out now I am panicking about heating it up ,

  • I would like to thank Gilsky for your videos as I was able to successfully repair my dec 2006 60 gig PS3 which had the ylod and it only cost me $10.00 for the heat paste still working after 8 days of course I spent a day cleaning it up and was it dirty! I even cleaned the vents once a month, it runs quieter and cooler too. thanks a lot

  • i have read ur pdf and aware of how to repair my ps3 but is it ok to use a water soluble flux

  • hey gilksy1

after apply the arctic silver 5

-just double checking- when flipping the

board upside down r u suppose to not

let touch any thing around the surface or at all?

as seen smear off or something

  • hey i have a question im from ny but rigth now im out of the country i want to know is the paste that u are putting on the plates is termal coump pound or something diferent

  • all u did was clean it?

  • Too fast? It's on youtube, not live. use the pause button you moron.

It's looks sorta like this ||

A hair dryer won't work, a cheap heat gun that only reaches say 400-500 Degrees F will not work. Go buy a $75 heat gun from Menards that can hit 600+, box it back up and return it when your done...

I don't know if dielectric will work, I've never tried it but I wouldn't risk it.

newegg.com has Arctic Silver for $10 and if will be on your doorstep in 2-3 days.

  • Question could I use a hairdryer? ._. I'm tight on money at the moment and can't really buy a heat gun

  • who are the idiots who dislike that..this man took his time to show you properly how to fix that shit so try to thx him instead stupid..by the way thx for the vid man awesome :)

  • lol looks a bit risky for me, im bound to fuck shit up! gave sony a call asked them how much they charge, they told me $250 AUD :| fuck that im going for a slim

  • @macokeeper

lol where abouts in aus are you

i'm coming over there for christmas

may be able to do a long distance call out lol

  • @gilksy1 from melbourne :) best city

  • @macokeeper

ohh well i'm going to adelaide

  • @gilksy1 gold coast is the best place to visit, but my question is if i buy one of those ps3 cooling things will it preserve my ps3 from getting YLOD again after i fix it?
