  • This is awesome! Nice work! I'm a Premiere Pro enthusiast myself. Just can't get to grips with AE. :-)

  • @EvilDogMedia Thanks! I really appreciate that! AE is pretty simple once you get a hold on layers and mapping the layers. it can get pretty crazy... rendering too. omg, don't even get me started. lol. Cs5 does a really good job with that though. love it.

  • Best damn SGU opening I've seen yet!!!

  • @theblackwidower haha, thanks! :) i'm glad you like it

  • Just a few questions:

    1. How did you get that Kino effect? Was it something done in AE?

    2. The text you used, Euro Style #2?

  • @AndrewDeLong Thanks for checkin out the vid!

    1. It could have been done in AE, but I just did some layers and blended them with the video in Premiere Pro. I describe this process a few comments back..

    2. I searched out a custom font called "Waukegan". I'm sure if you google it you'll find it. I paid close attention to the show as they only used caps in their titles.

  • @akaneo17

    1. Premiere Pro would have been my next guess Both are excellent programs for layering (and I use both m'self)

    2. Never heard of that font. To my knowledge, the show used Euro Style #2 for it's title, not sure on the credits though, but I have to say, that "Waukegan" is pretty close. Still, everything here is top notch. Font included. ;)

  • @AndrewDeLong

    1. Yea, I definitely could have spiffed it up a bit in AE, but I had been working on it for so long I didn't feel like going through all that.. hah

    2. Well, not everybody uses the default settings in their computer system. ;) Almost every new product makes their own font. check out dafont. com or urbanfonts. com - I get a lot of great fonts there made by tons of people. I use a few of them for my own projects. Thanks for the compliments! I love doing this type of creative work.

  • @akaneo17 It's definitely inspiring, that's for certain. I'm actually doing one of these for a college project right now, and I'll be honest, i yours is a complete 180 from the style I decided to go with. You focused on the action/adventurous elements of the series, I decided to go for the more dramatic portion. So far, yours is easily better than anything I've been able to drum up. In fact, I'd say it is, both artistically and conceptually, one of the better fan made openings on youtube.

  • @AndrewDeLong I checked it out. Its got a nice flow going. I see what you're saying. I tried to keep the "Stargate" element as it was in the 2 previous series. The musical theme for SGU was slightly less in excitement, but it still had that unique sci-fi pop to it. I had to use it! It's the theme! lol. I took the cast list off wikipedia for the order, n tried to capture each character's personality in each shot. I also studied the previous openings for SG-1 and SGA. It took a lot of time.

  • @akaneo17 And it shows. What you did actually looks like there was effort put into it. What I'm doing is a project that has less than a week before it's "due" and I still have to run it by my project "partner" before I can even finalize it.

Maybe, when I have a crap load of free time, I'll redo it all. Still, I'm kinda addicted to that Mumford & Sons song. I believe it was used in Ep 1, season 2, at the end of the show. Kinda works better there. LOL!

  • @AndrewDeLong Oh, yea, I recognized that! Such a good song... Oooo, student partners... lol. Be sure to play nice and communicate clearly. haha. I've learned communication is key when working with others in editing. It's hard to explain something that deals with images..

For me, I spent most of my time looking for shots that fit. I watched every ep. taking notes on where the good shots were. Then took those notes to post. I did it all in my spare time over the course of 8 months.

  • @akaneo17 Communication might be difficult, seeing as my partner knows nothing of the series, and we have just under a week to finish this thing. Thankfully, I kind of know the series inside and out, have a decent *eh-hem* "source for episodes" and have a strong idea of the direction I want to go with it. Of course, our (his) contingency plan, should the SGU title not work out, is to do an opening for "The Office." Needless to say, I'm going to make sure things work out for this. ;)

  • Brillian and amazing intro you are really an artist... thank You 4 your effort and I saved this entro with my SG complete collection of 500 GB :D:D

  • @RikoHHH Thank you!! I feel some-what honored to my work within that collection! I'm glad you like it! :)

  • Brilliant intro!

How do you get the KINO look on the clips?

or the turning gate with the symbols?

  • @02thedestiny1 hey, thanks a lot! the kino look was an overlay of four layers. two grated effects, one with grime, and the other was a color tint/filter. it wasn't too difficult, but finding the right blending mode for each layer was a little difficult. I got the gate from the actual website. A Hi-res image of the gate itself. I had to copy the top portion of it to make a complete circle which i then just rotated. I didn't pay too close attention to the symbols.

  • @akaneo17

    thanks!

  • A typical sgu universe:

Some weekly problem on the ship.

    Emotions

    Rush acting suspicous

    emotions

    rush being an ass

    emotions

    no enemies, just fighting eachother.

    emotions

    the end.

  • Love the intro.

One thing though. I know this is based on the music from the ending credits, and it sounds good, but I played the original ending credits music while watching this video muted and it sounded better. But thats just my opinion.

  • @bhorwith22 thanks for sharing your opinion! I'll have to check that out some time.

  • Awesome!! Makes me wanna re-watch the show for the 35th time!!

  • @alwaysliam thanks! it took several months, and most of it was going through each episode and choosing the shots that fit while trying to get a broad mixture. I don't understand why people insist on using any other music. I tried to stay true to the show and get the same feeling in the opening. Thanks again! I'm really glad you enjoy it :)

  • i love how you didn't show Eli as a nerd with some math equation in the background. NICE.

  • @xxonedarkheroxx Actually, there aren't too many shots of that. lol. either way though, Eli's character was the comic relief brainiac. And, of course, in charge of the Kinos... for his "documentary." :P

  • Perfect.

  • A-W-S-O-M-E !!!!!!!

  • Nice man, really looks like the real thing!

  • I like this version so much better.

  • Nice, i can see that you put alot of effort into makeing it.

  • @An00bIS22 in the words of Teal'c, "Indeed." Thanks for noticing! :)

I studied both opening credits from SG-1 and Atlantis, specifically how they felt, looked, and flowed to represent the show as a whole. Universe is definitely different, but I still wanted to keep the "Stargate" feel. This series was more raw, so I felt super awesome special effects (like SGA's opening) would be over-doing it. I kept focus on the characters and tried to show each one's personality in general.

  • very nice work!

  • perfect intro

  • Fantastic! Is the music just a slowed version of the normal end credits ?

  • @SGUnity The end credits is actually a shortened version of the theme to Universe, but yes, the same. It's available on iTunes. That's where I found it.

  • Excellent!
