  • That is so cool! How long does the battery last when you play for about an hour a day with it cranked up pretty loud? I want to make one, but I am leaning more towards a plug-in type rather than a battery type. Thoughts?

  • @phisherben cheers...mmm not sure about battery life, as I have several amps, so only play any one for a few minutes here and there. I wanted to stick to battery as I didn't dare do anything connected to the mains with my very limited electrical knowledge!! If you are confident about that and don't need it to be portable, maybe you should go for plug in...or have the best of both worlds and do it so it has both : -)

  • @phisherben I've checked the current usage of an LM-386 type CBGA, and at full volume about 0.25A is drawn which would give a 9-volt about 2 hours of play. I'm not sure about the Kemo M032, but I imagine that it would go through a 9-volt pretty fast. Hope this helps.

  • Hi great sound, could you let me know what strings you use & also what tuning ?

    Thanks Chris.

  • @chriskettle427 Hi, thanks. It still has the strings it came with, so I'm not sure what they are. Some kind of light acoustic ones. It's the D,G and B strings. They were tuned to A,E,A of this video...If you like Cigar Box Guitars check out the Cigar Box Nation website : -)

  • holly fuck that is awsome can u please do a tut on it

  • @justinmason100 cheers..if you get the leaflet I mention in the "more info" it explains how to make the amp : -)

  • @bemuzic thanks

  • it sounds great .. you did a good job ...

  • @hollandampsguy thanks : -)

  • This is absolutely incredible!! :D It sounds really clear!!

I've been looking around online for tips how to make my own amp...it looks a bit intimidating haha, I don't have much technical knowledge!

  • @OverlordMortiroth thanks..and I had no technical knowledge before I did this,lol!!

  • Hell woman , stop doing that to me ....

  • 1:12 - I was like =-O

  • @OnnomonnomonnO cheers : -)

  • very nice looking....

  • @rushinsteele cheers....tried to approve your vid response but YouTube is messing about and won't let me! Perhaps if you do it again?

  • @rushinsteele and sounding.....lol

  • @rushinsteele : -)

  • Howdy Darlin,y'all could use Turpentine or Paint Thiner Paste to get that Green Stuff out yur box if yuh unto sorry want to,let it set fer bout 5 mins. Then wipe clean,if Yuns use the paste let the green stuff bubble up then wipe er down, that should help Yuns

  • @THETRUECRASHMONKEY cheers, decided to leave it in in the end and the amp I made with it sounds ok : -)

  • WOW... and I mean WOW! that sounds incredible. I love the sound of the verb with the slide, so good. you've actually inspired me to build my own amp! haha :)

  • @babaroogeorge thanks a lot!...and good luck with your amp : -)

  • nice sound :)

  • @maxxyporky cheers

  • hey there,

I wonder, how did you power the kemo 12w amp? Can you just put a 9v battery in it?

I'm thinking of doing the same. I have a 9" speaker from an old ibanez bass combo. I want just to adapt it to a kemo 12v amp, for mp3 player or maybe guitar.

Do you have an advice? I'm actually a noob with electronics:P

    greetings from holland

  • @bemuzic Nice playing there, and the RV makes it sound very nicce. Pity you don't have the pedal any more. I like the funky design of the box ;-)

@janenco93 You could, but you might be using a lot of 9V batteries if you play a lot. If you can find a second hand shop or charity store, electronics pron shop, then you may be able to find a 12V DC wall plug pack for cheap <$10. Just make sure it puts out about 1000mA or 1A (12V x 1A = 12W)

900mA or 1200mA should also be OK.

  • @JamikKim27 cheers..mm must get another reverb pedal!

  • That sounds great, I'll have to drop Smojo a line. What reverb peddle are you using? It sounds really nice.

  • @yosser38 thanks, yeah I couldn't have done it without Smojo's booklet..and a bit of email advice as well!...it was a Boss RV 2 pedal (which I'd borrowed and don't have any more : -( )...though to be honest I think a lot of that sound was from the guitar...built by John McNair

  • YEA, You need to find an albumn of Whale songs The first things you were playing with the reverb, would go great with Whale song. Actual recordings of whales singing in the wild. .Ya want to remove the green Paint Or felt inside the box. Try some EZEE off OVEN cleaner it should remove or soften up the glue or paint. mask off that area to keep the mess down. then spray some on and let it set 3 minutes and try to scrape it. If yes then water rinse it first then scrape it all off

  • @brokenbrush ah whale songs..yeah they have a haunting sound...and thanks, oven cleaner, hadn't thought of that!...but several people have told me it would sound better with the felt left in so I might save myself the trouble : -)

  • @bemuzic No problem My sister i just made my third attempt at a 2 string Diddiley Bow It is so much fun. I have never been able to play a guitar But I'm having a blast with my DB.

  • @brokenbrush Didley Bow's seem to be a good way into music...my husband who's never played anything likes my 2 string thing : -)

  • @brokenbrush HI Sister.

I got The bugs out of my two string and play it every day. just for a while To get my brain wrapped around some creativity. I live with Chronic pain, So when it's getting me down i just turn on My Diddley bow and mess with it. I have a little Epiphone, and can make plenty of noise with it. Some turns into melody.

  • @brokenbrush cool, are you going to do a video of your 2 stringer?..I'd like to see/hear it!!...and mmm yeah I can relate to that..I have had chronic back pain for years and find playing these cigar box guitar and Diddley Bows very therapeutic (hadn't been able to play a normal guitar for over 20yrs as the size and weight of them was too much!)

  • thanks for quick reply, if you ever do,please let me know, nice sound, regards neil

  • @cookdadio38 ok will do, thanks : -)

  • hi, do you build these to sell? regards neil

  • @cookdadio38 well this is the first one I've ever made, and the first soldering I've done, so not sure I'm ready to inflict them on other people yet for money,lol!.....having said that I'm doing one for someone as a swap for a guitar : -)

  •  +++LOUD+++

    Thanks

  • @bestillroy ha yeah that overdrive pedal really boosted things up!!

  • @smashygadge aha that makes more sense : -)

  • @smashygadge cheers, lol riding a motorbike and playing guitar...could be interesting!!!

  • great work on the amp build,i like it it sounds great, smojo is and has always been one of my cigar box guitar heroes,i can see what his influence has done for you too, great job on building that cool little amp belinda, you rock sister from across the big pond yep.

  • @brftcajunguitars thanks a lot!...yep couldn't have done it without smojo's leaflet : -)

  • @milo942 cheers : - )

  • Wow!! I like it! That thing is loud. Nice reverb! I think I've got the deluxe cigar box amp kit. Its been upgraded to include the pre amp headphone jack and ac adaptor kit.Sometimes I see them on ebay. Nice video!

  • @lennypurnell thanks! ah ok, yeah that's the trouble with that site, you can't buy directly from it, you just have to wait and see what they put on eBay : -(...and then for me in the uK there's the postage!

  • sounds good for me

    ^`

  • @anukittta thanks : -)

  • Ha ha, you've caught the bug!

  • @coljon09 lol, yeah I sure have!!

  • Love the echoey sound. Neat amp.

  • @Django5198 cheers, yeah a bit of reverb's alway good : -)

  • On reflection if that box is for an amp do you really need to strip it as it might make the sound a little more mellow? It doesn't need to resonate like a guitar body. I got a lovely wine box for 50p on Sunday, two art boxes and a beautiful hand painted box which could be something of an antique - it was in several pieces but I glued it and polished it and it looks amazing

  • @MrRandomWritings ah right, I assumed it would be better with it out..it looks a bit messy where I took out some bits where perfume bottles would go, but as it's just on the inside maybe it's not worth the trouble of getting it off if it won't sound better!!

  • @MrRandomWritings oh and sounds like you got some good box bargains!!...I must start getting up earlier and going to some boot sales. Ebay is good,...apart from the postage : -/

  • Well done - looks and sounds great. My last box with green felt stuff was a bugger to clean until I wet it and found the glue was water soluble! Just scrape away at it and see what is left - if all else fails get a really rough sandpaper - I strongly recomend a belt for a belt sander - really cheap at our market and you can wash them if they get claggy!

  • @MrRandomWritings thanks Brian...and for the baize advice!!
