He had access to the multitracks. He started of playing them all at once then he just used the machine and isolated them.

Ever see footage in a recording session and how bands are separated by partitions? That's — in part — how they separate the instruments (if they're playing together). In this case, the piano was recorded over the synthesizers, separate from the rest of the instruments.
