  • This is lindy hop, not swing.

  • for some authentic jitterbug look up the number 'Bounce Me Brother With A Solid Four from the movie Buck Privates, 1941...not necessarily better than this, but it wasn't nostalgia it was current. Superhartline

  • @SuperHartline The movie features Dean Collins, one of the most famous Lindy Hoppers of the day, and who was featured in more movies than any other swing dancer.

Looks up "Hellzapoppin" to see how the black dancers danced swing. :-)

  • @lindyhop411 in that case yes I learned lindy hop and it really fun !

  • @BeeBran333 There's many different kinds of swing dances. Lindy Hop is the original swing dance, but you probably learned something easier like East Coast Swing. :-)

  • @lindayhop411

I don't kno what that is... :/ srry but I LOVE swing !

  • @BeeBran333 Lindy Hop IS swing! Everything else comes from Lindy Hop.

  • I'm doing this amazing dance for my school tomorrow

  • @BeeBran333 You learned Lindy Hop?

  • GO CHRISTIAN BALE!!!!!!

  • looks like modern day shuffling

  • look like modern day shuffling

  • great sond and great video... i wanna dance now :)))))

  • swing kids

  • Hey Dr Wilson from House MD!! (Robert Sean Leonard) Wow who knew he could dance!

  • This is such a great movie. I love this song, "Sing, Sing, Sing".

  • sing sing sing written and arranged by fletcher henderson-exploited by goodman

  • Hey! where did you get this particular recording of sing sing sing? It's really authentic!

  • it's called swing kids: above average movie set in 1930's nazi germany. definitely not a great movie though.

  • what is this white shit?

  • @oooowwwwdddd Look up Hellzapoppin to see who this dancing was inspired from.

  • @lindyhop411 Oh please, let me guess..... black people huh? Dah white man stoled dis shit from da black man..... damn that blue eyed soul! It all came from da black man.....

  • @oooowwwwdddd Lindy Hop originated in Harlem, and was popularized at the Savoy Ballroom, the first unsegregated ballroom in New York. Whites and Blacks all danced together. Many of us that love swing consider it the first American Folk dance, because its a combination of European and African dances (just how jazz is a mix of European and African music). We pay tribute to all of the innovators of the dance: Shorty George, Frankie Manning, and Dean Collins (who was white).

  • @lindy hop 411 Ha ha ha... that's great. Thanks 4 the dance style education. I don't know much about dance cuz I'm on the other side of music. I'm a musician so I'm 1 of the dudes on stage making the music that the people dance to. I love music & don't know what I would do without it. When I was little I was abused and left alone alot & music comforted me. I love black music even tho I'm white. Best part is how blacks & whites danced together. We should all dance together. I love that!

  • @oooowwwwdddd The amazing thing about swing was that is really crossed racial boundaries in it's time. Fletcher Henderson, Chick Webb, and Count Basie perfected swing, but Benny Goodman brought it to the masses. But Goodman was also one of the first white band leaders to higher black muscians (he discovered Lionel Hapton in LA, and made a trio and quarter with him). Artie Shaw hired Billie Holiday to be his full time lead vocalist, but she had to resign because of bad reaction in the south.

  • @oooowwwwdddd Funny story about Frankie Manning, who create Aerials in swing dancing: When he came to Hollywood, and he and his troupe were practicing their routine featured in the movie Hellzapoppin, they got an applause from off stage. When they turned to look at who it was, it was Fred Astaire, who said, "Man, I wish I could dance like you guys."

  • The footage is from the movie Swing Kids

  • wow i really love this! what movie is it from?!

  • Shit quality!

  • This is Sing, Sing, Sing by Benny Goodman. If you like this, check out Swing, Swing, Swing by John Williams. There is a dance sequence in the movie 1941 that is great.

  • Does anyone know the name of this song? Beuhler, Beuhler, anyone?

I just know that it's Benny Goodman and his band.

  • love this song and video, but why that bad quality:(?

  • Too bad the quality is so low that it looks like stacks of pixels doing swing moves. Any better versions of this clip posted elsewhere?

  • This dancing sequence must be a deleted scene because I have the DVD and the Sing Sing Sing scene begins when the two guys enter the nightclub. It's the best part of the movie but the scene is not this long.

Besides, all the other additons you pulled from the movie make this video clip wonderful.

Thanks allystock for sharing the great work you' ve done.

  • I got this clip as one of my favourites. But its edited with the music over the top. So it appears the sequences are different to the film. But its all there. This isn't a deleted scene just the same stuff in different order...:-)

  • I'm so upset because I love SWING! The music, The dancing, the lifestile and it suckes so much that there is not a single class that teaches swing in my country :((((((((((

i wish i was in that era.

    it looked so much fun.

  • yeah, it would be awsome! hay we can steal dream about it so :) by the way can anyone advise me some cool swing movie ;):*:*:*

  • Your profile says you're from Montreal... There is a huge swing community in Montreal. Cat's Corner and Studio Swing 88 both give lessons from beginner to advanced. Try googling them.

  • I am in a swing dancing group at school with the joffrey ballot i like this swing dancing it is cool and fun to enjoy the rythem of this music!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • what is the name of the song??

  • Sing Sing Sing. I recommend snagging some Benny Goodman, Gene Krupa or even Los Straitjackets. One of the definitive tune of the Swing era.

  • 0:17 :)

  • Swing Kids is definately the saddest and best movie Ever.

Dear god I wish that I was just born afew decades earlier so that I could experience the whole swing movement.

  • that seems an odd statement to some who does swing dancing, and has done for the past 10+ years, while the whole country was swinging in the 1940's it was reborn in the late 90's and had a small be dedicate following today. While swing kids help to revive the dance seen in the 90s, the dancing in it is never particularly good and often kinda painful to watch.

  • I think the thing that comes across in Swing Kids is their absolute love of the music and the dance and the culture. So maybe while not technically great, its the fact that they really enjoy doing it that shines.

  • I'm SO with you on that 'Best Part Ever'. ;) God, swing dancing looks like so much fun. I wish the majority of people still learned how to dance. We're really missing out!

  • What moving picture is this from, it reminds me of the 30's when I was 15.

  • The movie is called Swing Kids.

  • @LeoBullterrier Yep before the days of going to the Gym

  • @LeoBullterrier It must have been so amazing to see this dancing in its actual time period :)

  • @TwilightLuvvverxxx Look up "Hellzapoppin" on here and see for yourself! Also check out my videos/favorites. :-)

  • JIMMY.

That's all I could think the entire time. Before he was Boy Wonder Oncologist, the man knew how to cut a rug.

  • So weird to see dr. wilson dancing some swing!

  • i have never seen this movie

but i have heard of it.

  • this is alot of charleston. and there is some lindy. i believe it's a charleston lindy though.

  • woo.love this movie SWING KIDS>>>>>>>>>

  • lindyhob411 said it all, its easy to learn the basics of swing, but its darn hard to make it look good

    total fun overall

    I LOVE SWING DANCING!!!!

  • the song and dancing are awsome-i want to swing!

  • What is this music? I want it.

  • Sing Sing Sing, Benny Goodman.

  • Thanks.~

  • Christian Bale Runs the Show! He's so good

  • This is actually a poor representation of swing dancing. If you want to see real swing dancing, do a search for "Hellzapoppin" and see what real swing dancing is supposed to look like.

  • Just did so and that was really very cool. However, I'm not sure the "Swing Kids" representation is all that bad -- there were a lot of the same moves and stuff. Looked like the same thing to me. The "Hellzapoppin" one was more impressive, but I mean, they're both clearly swing dancing. And "Swing Kids" is just supposed to be people hanging out at a dance club casually, not professionals. Shrug.

  • The problem is the complete lack of Lindy Hop. Swing kids has similar "moves" but the're no lindy hop, which was what was actually danced in the 30's and 40's. I'd say a better "tribute" to real swing dancing, is the Flying Home number from the movie "Malcom X". That was choreographed by one of the dancers in the Hellzapoppin video.

  • I DO real swing dancing, and have already seen Hellzapoppin. Thanks, though.

  • So do you know how Lindy Hop, Balboa, and Collegiate Shag?

  • I know how to lindy and balboa. Never learned shag yet.

  • It's my favorite dance. It's easy to learn the basic, but hard to make it look good. You should check out the Arthur Murray Shag video as well as the video from Blondie Meets the Boss.

  • Thanks for references. Also, your videos were some of the first I watched on here.

  • omg its wilson!!!! and is that christian bale?

  • Yes and yes. :)
