Iommi and Geezer didn't lower the tuning on their guitars to C# until Master of Reality. The first album and Paranoid are in standard tuning. They used C# on MOR, VOL4, SBS and Sabotage. They went back to standard E tuning for TE and NSD. I Just wanted to clarify this because the guy made it sound as if they used a lower tuning/pitch than normal from the beginning. This is not the case.

@gl797 Thank you for clarifying this. I don't understand why people always mix this up. Iommi just used a lighter gauge of strings and did what he could to continue playing, and in the process, created heavy metal.

When I first started listening to Black Sabbath it was because I thought that they were all about devil worshiping, and that would piss off all the overzealous jesus nuts in my family at the time lol Then I started to appreciate them for the great rock band and wonderful musicians that they all really are. To this day I can't get over that Famous Ozzy wail in "Lord Of This World" when it gets to the climax in the song. I gives me chills at how powerful his voice is and how great his lyrics are.

Ozzy says in his book he takes no credit for creating Heavy Metal, because that is not what they were doing. Heavy Metal is an 80's commercial term for hard rock music!

I'm a christian and I love Ozzy and Black Sabbath. I crank the music in my car and also at the house. Growing up I had my parents and the church telling me rock music was of the devil. Then when the Ozzy: Behind the Music came out my mother changed her tune about him.

@MrJtr75 Hahaha I have this battle a lot with my mom... I tell her it's this simple, the guitar cannot summon the devil, no matter which I play the strings, its not devil worshiping... We agreed that music cannot worship satan unless the musician himself wants it to be that way... So ha I won lol!!!!
