It's funny they talk about like it was ferarri or porshe. The only reason 500 road going versions were made was so it could compete in rallying. It served no other purpose, and purportedly sat in dealer showrooms up into the early 80's

In Kansas you used to be able to get a agi drivers license at age 12. We farm kids were sliding around the gravel backroads unaware that there was this motorsport called rally. Then my dad recieved his first issue of Autoweek. There in all its black & white glory was the Lancia Stratos and the wonderfull world of rally. Instant hook. I still find my heart burn with lust when I see one.

The car wasn't used anymore for Rallye to put in small family cars in the place to promote sellings of small family cars.

I had a Ritmo and yes some parts fell into pieces like my driver seat, but the car kept on running, until the unibody rusted beyound repair at age 13,

Nowadays they are better, see the Fiat punto's MK1 of 1995 most of them don't even have rust underneath and the are 16 years old.
